[OVERVIEW]

Ambipom is a Pokemon that throughout Smogon’s history has been wildly popular on various ladders, and is usually trapped in metagames where it is completely worthless, as it is almost always outclassed by another Pokemon within the metagame due to a variety of factors. This is almost certainly true of BW UU, as Weavile is frankly better on almost every single team you would consider fitting an Ambipom into. This is due to Ambipom's inferior Normal STAB as a Normal resist is on almost every team, with Cofagrigus and Rhyperior being incredibly common and threatened by Weavile, as well as its inferior Speed tier allowing Azelf and Raikou to speed tie it, as well as it being unable to break past most effective Physical Walls in the UU metagame, notably losing out against Cofagrigus and Blastoise.

Fake Out is effective priority that is boosted by Technician. Low Kick allows Ambipom to break through Cobalion and chip away at Rhyperior. U-turn allows Ambipom to damage switch-ins, while also bringing in effective counterplay to them. Pursuit allows Ambipom to get a hit in on Pokemon that Ambipom tries to force out, such as Victini or Tornadus.


If you must use Ambipom, effective answers to Rhyperior, Blastoise, and Cofagrigus are required or else you’ll find Ambipom is just dead weight in practice. An effective teammate that puts pressure on all three is Roserade, which provides Spikes support and checks Slowbro and Swampert. Ambipom also generally requires a Rapid Spinner as a partner, as chip from Spikes will put Ambipom in KO range of banded Weavile, Raikou, and Azelf. Beyond this, you generally will consider Ambipom on hyper offense teams where its paper-thin bulk doesnt matter.

Ambipom is a pokemon that throughout smogon’s history has been wildly popular on various ladders, and because of this, is usually trapped in metagames where it is completely worthless (this is just more concise) has by and large become completely not worth using in any serious capacity in the metagames it is stuck within as they progressed, as it is almost always outclassed by another pokemon within the metagame due to a variety of factors. This is almost certainly true of BW UU, as Weavile is frankly better on almost every single team you would consider fitting an Ambipom onto. (go into detail on why Ambipom is awful, stating a better varient is just not enough, talk about how it cannot pressure a majority of the meta due to how weak it is, or how its fraility means it's easily taken out by the things it wants to attack, this is a mini so it doesn't need to be a lot, but certainly one or two more sentences is fine)

Paragraph 1: Fake Out is fairly effective priority that is buffed by Technician, Frustration is a base 102 STAB move (contextualize what the moves in purple would aim to do, otherwise this is just dex info). Low Kick allows you to break through Cobalion and chip away at Rhyperior. U-Turn allows you to get damage on your opponent doubling into their answer to Ambipom, while also bringing in effective counterplay to said answer. Pursuit allows you to get solid chip on Offensive mons that Ambipom tries to force out such as Victini or Tornadus.

Paragraph 2: As stated in the opener, please just use Weavile instead, especially if you decide to go for Pursuit over U-Turn. While Ambipom’s Fake Out is far stronger than Weavile’s Ice Shard thanks to the boost from Technician, Ambipom simply does not have an effective offensive presence in the Face of Opposing Cofagrigus, Rhyperior, Blastoise, Swampert, Qwilfish, Gligar, Hitmontop, or Amoongus. (while i completely understand this line, remember this is an Ambipom analysis) Of these pokemon, Weavile has a natural and effective way to threaten almost all of them in either Swords Dance or simply using its Stab moves against them because they aren’t resisted. Something to Compound on Weavile ( outclassing Ambipom even more is each pokemon’s speed tier, if Ambipom were 1 base speed faster this wouldn’t be an issue, but Ambipom speed ties with Both Raikou and Azelf, whilst Weavile is faster, which means that Weavile can offensively check two premier offensive powerhouses that Ambipom simply cannot answer reliably under the vast majority of circumstances. If you must use Ambipom over Weavile, some effective partners would be Roserade to Provide Spikes support, Swampert to force out your opponent’s Rhyperior, and Victini to be an effective breaker to bring in with U-Turn (just rewrite this entire paragraph to be more about why ambipom is bad, other than writing a weirdly phrased weavile analysis)

I think overview mentioning ambipom lack of bulk is kind of a mute point when its main competition in weavile isnt known for its bulk either, the combination of really non threatening stab move for ambipon given normal resists are a given on any BW UU team at this point would be a good point to mention instead of the bulk element, weavile has 2 really potent stab options to choose from so I would change that on the overview.

Overall, it is ambipom so the rest gets the job done. 2/2 when implemented.
