An Offensive Rain Team.

Hi, I am new to Smogon and was referred to by Pride. This is a variant of the offensive rain team but still has the basic stuff down.

186.png

Politoed (M) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Grass]

This guy is our basic Choice Specs Politoed. It acts as my Drizzle setup and packs a very powerful Specs Hydro Pump in the rain. I usually use it as my lead and just Hydro Pump away. It has also been known to OHKO Reuniclus that tries to switch in on Politoed thinking that it is a stall variant. The other three moves are merely for coverage purposes.

472.png

Gliscor (M) @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EVs: 180 HP / 252 Def / 76 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Taunt
- Earthquake
- Ice Fang
- Swords Dance

Gliscor was meant to do damage by switching on stuff that it would have fun with like incoming Electric attacks aimed at my Poli and Starmie. It addresses my big electric weakness and absorbs physical blows especially from opposing Toxicroaks but I still have problems with Jolteon that has HP Ice. It also can do sweeping when played around nicely.

598.png

Ferrothorn (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 48 Def / 208 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Power Whip
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Thunder Wave

The primary wall on this team, rain gives it a better way to survive fire attacks. Power Whip is just a very powerful attack to hit some threats like the Water/Ground pokemon. It also sets the hazards up to make the sweeping job a bit easer for Starmie and Thunderus. It also provides a nifty resist to most types especially electric. Thunder Wave is for trying to cripple fast threats like the Latis. He is also my alternative lead when I see a TTar on the team viewer.

642.png

Thundurus (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Prankster
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Nasty Plot
- Focus Blast
- Thunder
- Hidden Power [Ice]
This is the basic Nasty Plot set for Thunderus. At some point, this had TWave over Nasty Plot but because of it, I tend to sacrifice Thunderus just so it could TWave a faster opponent and end up losing the match. Thunder over Tbolt for the power difference and the 100% accuracy brought about by the rain. It acts as my Revenge Killer and force switches especially with nasty plot. It also has it's weaknesses covered by Ferrothorn.

121.png

Starmie @ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Thunder
- Ice Beam
- Surf
- Grass Knot
Just like Thunderus, this acts as a standard LO sweeper. Comes in on rain, powers surf up, 100% accurate Thunder and with impressive speed. It usually has the task of covering almost the same stuff Thunderus does except that Starmie has access to a powerful rain-boosted Surf. It only has some problems when a Ferro switches in and gets a free Spikes/Seed/SR on my switch.

454.png

Toxicroak (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Dry Skin
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Drain Punch
- Bulk Up
- Substitute
- Sucker Punch
Pride initially wanted a Tornadus here which is similar to one of his old teams. It's just a personal preference of mine to one or no legendary Pokemon on my teams so that they will be easy to make on Wi-Fi. I found croak to be a good replacement for Tornadus. It's the basic "stall" set that has given a ton of people problems. I also have to play him cautiously when I see a Blissey in the team viewer and make sure that he is still alive because Blissey has been a problem for this team.

Problems that I have found through playing were
-I haven't played around against stall to well especially when they have both Blissey and Ferrothorn as I only have croak and gliscor to give physical attacks.
-Scarf-Garchomp is also a problem if Gliscor and Ferrothorn faints early
-Trick Room in general
-Latis have also been a minor problem especially when Croak fainted already

So there is my team, any rates, comments and suggestions would be very much accepted.

This team is pretty good.

For politoed, I am personally not a fan of the Specs attacker because I find too often that he gets taken out and then my team is dead. I recommend this staller set.
Politoed @ Leftovers
Ability- Drizzle
Nature- Bold
Ev's- 252 HP, 204 Def, 52 SDef
1. Protect
2. Toxic
3. Encore
4. Scald
The idea behind this set is to take as many turns to take down as humanly possible because you can slowly build your health back up. Protect for stalling toxic and leftovers health, Toxic for stalling, encore because it forces switches and can lead to a free turn, and Scald because the chance of double status is always welcome, plus the burn is great for his chances of living.

Gliscor is the standard, and while I never have been a fan of taunt period, the set is normal. EV's though should be 252 HP, 184 Def, 72 Spd. But with Ferrothorn needing recovery, I would personally run Stealth Rocks over Taunt.

Ferrothorn's set is fine, although I would run it with Leech Seed over Stealth Rocks because of me ecommending stealth rocks on gliscor and also protect over Thunderwave to stall and recover health.

Thundurus is fine, the standard and I feel best set.

For Starmie, I would run a Choice Specs set because I would not run it for Politoed. But for any all out attacking set, I would run Hydro Pump over Surf for the power and also Psychic over Grass Knot because the only coverage you are getting is the Water/Grounds.

For Toxicroak, the set is fine, but I cannot understand why everyone is running black sludge over Leftovers due to the danger of getting it tricked back onto another of your pokemon. The only reason why you would is if you have item clause on, but you don't because you had two life orbs, so switch Black Sludge for Leftovers.

Good Luck

Choiced Psychic is a no no so if you were to change it to Specs, use Trick over Psychic or Grass Knot. Also, if you are going to keep the current Life Orb set for Starmie, I recommend Recover to increase its survivability or Rapid Spin to get rid of entry hazards. In my opinion, Choice Specs Politoed is rather underwhelming, as it is relatively weak and without a defensive spread, does not survive as many hits as it should. When you are using a rain team, keeping the weather around is super important, so I would recommend a defensive spread of max HP / max def or SpD. With a supporting moveset consisting of Encore, Perish Song, and Hypnosis, I would definitely run that over the Specs set you have now as it would help you a lot in the long run. Also, Thundurus is great and all, and Priority NP is amazing, but you will often find in such a fast paced metagame as this, you won't have time to set up, thus defeating the whole purpose of the set. To solve this, I would recommend Choice Specs Tornadus with Hurricane/Focus Blast/Hidden Power Ice/Grass Knot. Choiced Hurricane can OHKO a lot of things, especially with prior damage from Stealth Rock and Spikes. For example, it OHKOs Latios after Stealth Rock damage almost 95% of the time. I don't think Thundurus can do the same with an unboosted Hidden Power Ice. Hurricane can also 2HKO Specially Defensive Ferrothorn, an amazing feat, no less. And this is without relying on the shaky accuracy of Focus Blast. Yes, Hurricane's accuracy is affected by weather changes, but so is Thunder. Besides, you already have Starmie to Thunder things up. So these are just a few suggestions, and GL with the team!

Also, Hydrarest Vappy is a monster in rain I outstalled Garchomp and Blissey LOL

Vaporeon@Lefties
Nature: Calm
Ability: Hydration
Evs: 252 HP / 252 SpD / 4 SpA
-Scald
-Toxic
-Acid Armor/Roar
-Rest

Will try Tornadus out. It does look nice. Hydration Vappy is cool and I might use him on a stall variant next time. It's not that reliable to kill Blissey for me now because of the odd chances that it carries Aromatherapy/Heal Bell
