Hey guys! Mr. 170 here. I'm new to these forums (registered yesterday), in fact this is my first post on the forums, but I'm not new to competitive play. I've stuck to OU and Ubers for a while, but now I've decided to venture into UU. Just a disclaimer before I begin: This is meant to be played on the DS, not Shoddy. The pokemon who I give shiny sprites for are actually shiny and chained by me, so don't tell me to use moves that are obtained by eggs or Hidden Power of a certain type on the shinies. Anything else is OK. The point of this UU team is to focus on Magmortar, one of my favorite pokemon. I also tried to keep it as balanced as possible, and I tried to make as many of my team members chainable shinies as possible (just as an aside). So, without any further ado, here's my team as I thought of it:
Like I said, start with a Magmortar:
Magmortar is a special attacker, so I wanted a physical attacker for a balanced offense. Sceptile makes a good choice, considering its typing and strong Leaf Blade STAB. So welcome Sceptile.
So my offense is set. I started thinking about defense, and in UU, there's one pokemon that caught my attention: Slowbro. Great typing, a great recovery move AND a chainable? Jackpot.
Okay, so far so good, but some more wallage never hurt. Hmmm... Maybe something that resists Poison, Grass, maybe an immunity to Ground? Uhhh... Let's see... Aha! Weezing is a perfect fit.
Well I've got my walls, good ol' Slowbro and reliable Weezing. But looking at defensive stats for these two, Slowbro and Weezing are more physically defensive than they are specially. It left me with an uncomfortable feeling. So I looked through UU and NU for a specially defensive pokemon. But then I thought: A little more physical offense would be cool considersing Sceptile is the only pokemon that has a physical attack. Suddenly I looked at my team and realized there are NO stealth rock resistances, only ONE Spikes immunity, and a weakness for Bug. The perfect pokemon: HITMONTOP!!! Rapid Spin, a Bug resistance, a base 110 Special Defense? Uh huh. Not to mention, Tyrogue is chainable.
Cool so I've got attackers, walls, even a Spinner. Looks like I'm done. Oh wait, I need a lead, don't I? Well, uh, how about Omastar? Nice typing, more Defense, access to more than both Spikes and rocks helps Omastar grab the lost spot.
And half shiny too, not bad.
Ok so, that's it for what I was thinking. Time to show you the details.
The Lead
Omastar@Leftovers
Ability: Shell Armor
Bold (+ Def, -Atk)
EV: 252 HP/ 176 Def/ 80 SpD
Moveset:
-Surf
-Spikes
-Stealth Rock
-Protect
Alright, here he is. Omastar sets up entry hazards. That’s about it. Ev’s are standard here, Spikes over Toxic Spikes cause of Poison-infested UU/NU. Surf is for STAB and Protect is to scout. The reason I chose him is basically for his Defense and his Water/Rock typing. He's probably not going to be staying where he is after i set up, I need to switch before I can get the ball rolling.
Team Synergy
Electric- Sceptile
Grass- Magmortar, Sceptile, Weezing
Fighting- Slowbro, Weezing
Ground- Sceptile, Weezing
The Physical Attacker
Sceptile@Expert Belt
Ability: Overgrow
Jolly (+Spe, -SpA)
EV: 252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HP
Moveset:
-Leaf Blade
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Swords Dance
Alright, Sceptile is on this team for physical attack, so I went with an SD set. Though Torterra would otherwise be better for a role like this, Sceptile is pretty much my only real speed on this team. I opted for Expert Belt over Life Orb because I need Sceptile to hang around as long as possible, so I can’t really afford the recoil.
Team Synergy
Fire- Magmortar, Slowbro, Omastar
Ice- Magmortar, Slowbro, Omastar
Flying- Omastar
Bug- Magmortar, Weezing, Hitmontop, Omastar
The Wall
Slowbro@Leftovers
Ability: Own Tempo
Bold (+Def, -Atk)
EV: 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 SpD
Moveset:
-Surf
-Psychic
-Thunder Wave
-Slack Off
Slowbro is my wall, obviously. Maxed out with a + nature a 252 EV’s, this Slowbro was made to take physical hits. Surf and Psychic for STAB, Slack Off for recovery, and Thunder Wave to slow my opponents down, something that helps immensely when there’s only one poke on the team with over 85 base speed.
Team Synergy
Electric- Sceptile
Grass- Magmortar, Sceptile, Weezing
Bug- Magmortar, Weezing, Hitmontop, Omastar
Dark - Hitmontop
The Hazer
Weezing@ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Bold (+Def, -Atk)
EV: 252 HP/ 252 Def/ 4 Atk
Moveset:
-Flamthrower
-Haze
-Pain Split
-Explosion
It looked like Slowbro needed some help, so I picked up Weezing. I was thinking about Will-o-Wisp, but with Slowbro’s Thunder Wave and Hitmontop’s Toxic, I decided I’d rather Haze, because it’s more useful. Toxic takes away more health than a burn, and the Attack drop isn’t significant when you could stop all stat boosts.
Team Synergy
Psychic- Slowbro
The Spinner
Hitmontop@ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
Careful (+SpD, -SpA)
EV: 252 HP/ 252 Atk/ 4 Def
Moveset:
-Close Combat
-Toxic
-Rapid Spin
-Pursuit
Alright, I feel this one needs some explaining. Like I said before I wanted something with some special bulk, and Hitmontop with a 110 base SpD and a + nature certainly gives that, with 252 HP Ev’s. 252 Atk is to give attacks a punch. Here’s the deal with the set. When you put this team in Marriland Team Builder, there’s one row that stands out: Ghost. One weakness, no resistances, not looking good. In UU there’s one threat that could spell disaster for this team- Mismagius. A special attacking Ghost-type with Thunderbolt (only resisted once) sounds like trouble, so here’s what I did. First of all, Pursuit > Sucker Punch because I can’t risk Mismagius setting up, and then Toxic > Foresight because I need more status than Slowbro’s Thunder Wave.
Team Synergy
Flying- Omastar
Psychic- Slowbro
The Star
Magmortar@ Choice Specs
Ability: Flame Body
Timid (+Spe, -Atk)
EV: 252 SpA/ 252 Spe/ 4 SpD
Moveset:
-Flamethrower
-Thunderbolt
-Focus Blast
-Taunt
The star of the show, Magmortar’s Special Attack climbs to 524 (with its iv’s). Since I couldn’t get one with HP Grass or Ice, I chose Taunt to try to catch walls off guard. Hits 9 of 17 types super- effectively, and no pokemon can completely resist. Timid and 252 Speed Ev’s let me out pace neutral base 95’s.
Team Synergy
Water- Sceptile, Slowbro
Ground- Weezing
Rock- Hitmontop
Well that’s the team. Please rate, I’m trying to get as good in UU as I am in OU and Ubers. So far, I'm 6-1, but I could really use some more input.
