After testing out this team for 2 weeks, I decided to share this bulky balanced Mega Venusaur Core team designed to pressure and to predict your opponent with the Smogon population with hopes of people improving this team. Enjoy!
Excallibur (Venusaur) (M) @ Venusaurite
Ability: Chlorophyll
EVs: 232 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 20 Spe
Modest Nature
- Synthesis
- Giga Drain
- Sludge Bomb
- Hidden Power [Fire]
I typically wanted to make a team around this guy because it deals with fairies extremely well and has one of the best cores in this metagame. It also offers important resists such as Electric, Water, and Fighting and an immunity to leech seed and powder moves. I chose the offensive set mainly because the defensive set doesn't do anything. As a result, it becomes a valuable tank that can nuke the opposing team. Evs and moves are self explainable. Playing advice include trying to avoid residual damage or any status as it needs to be healthy to check your opponent.
Landorus-T - Why are we staring in the front?
Aegis (Heatran) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 192 SpD / 68 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Lava Plume Magma Storm
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Protect Taunt
As I said before, Heatran has a great synergy with Venusaur as it is a great tank tha tcovers the special spectrum and can set up stealth rocks. Also it has a great psychic resist that allows it to tank psychics before switching into landorus for those f-blasts.I chose Toxic mainly to wear down pokemon that I can't get rid of with my offensive tanks. Protect allows Toxic Stall and also spam it because it lets you heal with leftovers and to hurt pokes that spam hi jump kick. A Stall breaker set is chosen mainly because (thanks Pokepal) to destroy the offending walls that my team often has trouble with. It traps and makes my preferred game of state easier to obtain. Do not try to switch this in much while stealth rock. Also, try to avoid as much damage as possible as it doesn't have a reliable recovery. If a serperior hits it with a leaf storm, switch into Landorus-T to dodge the Hp ground or to grab momentum when the opponent switches.
Landorus-T - Where did you guy's get those sprites!
Wenceslas (Slowbro) (M) @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpA
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Scald
- Slack Off
- Psyshock
- Thunder Wave
Slowbro practically beats Quagsire in everything except Unaware and Dark types with furthermore being a much more solid wall thanks to regenerator. It also offers an invaluable psychic resist that my venusaur hates and a fire resist to check charizard x. I haven't put the special defense investment mainly because Venusaur and Azumarill can handle Keldeo more reliably. I prefer Rocky Helmet more than Leftovers mainly because Slowbro does not need Leftover recoveries and it is fun watching the opponent's Hp fall down. I chose psyshock over Fire Blast mainly because I don't need to check Ferrothorn and reliable damage is good. Thunder Wave to check those sweepers and allows slowbro to not be slow anymore. Toxic on Slowbro is a bit redundant. Playing Advice include always switching into fake outs or any phsyical move that he can tank so they get crippled with rocky helmet damage. Do not try to spam thunder wave unless you need to get that pokeor any poke paralyzed.
Landorus-T - Oh yeah, that was from Heart Gold & Soul Silver
Joyeuse (Azumarill) (F) @ Choice Band
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 172 HP / 252 Atk / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Aqua Jet
- Waterfall
- Superpower
Lets just face it. Those three above are easily walled. Thats why I chose azumarill as in my opinion is a really reliable wall breaker and can check some physical dark type pokemon which are typically my counters/checks. It can also revenge kill other pokemon. I chose Superpower over knock off because I don't need item removal and its extremely fun watching ferrothorns die. Also, it allows me to check steel types which azumarill usually can't. EVs are self explanatory. If you see a garchomp, always lead with azumarill as the lead garchomp is most likely panic and switch into ferrothorn (:D). Also, try to keep at good health as this thing can take down a lot of walls this team needs to get rid of.
Landorus-T - I only existed in and after Gen V. *sigh*
Gungnir (Landorus-Therian) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Atk / 20 Def / 236 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- U-turn
- Explosion
As you can see my team is naturally weak to hyper offense and speed. That is why I added this pokemon because it solves all of those problems plus checking a lot of psychic/dark type pokemon. It also an amazing revenge killer that can grab momentum which my team naturally lacks. It also offers a ground immunity that my team adores. Explosion > Knock Off mainly because I don't need item removal and corrupts momentum; explosion brings down one of the opponents walls and builds up more momentum. This, with raikou, is your preferred lead as you can grab momentum as fast as possible. If your opponent has a stealth rock user that has no ground/water/fighting moves, use heatran instead as a lead. Never use this as a lead against garchomp and ferrothorn as you need this to be healthy to chck some threats. If you need a wall die and you don't need this anymore, always click explosion.
Landorus-T - How much did I miss?!!
Durendal (Raikou) @Assault Vest Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
-Volt-Switch Calm Mind
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
-Shadow Ball Extrasensory
I chose raikou as he offers a crucial check to manaphy and tornadus therian which my team especially hates. Raikou also allows me to check more fast pokes that would be mostly unharmed and builds up momentum with volt switch thus forming a solid volt-turn core. This set allows me to destroy Mega Venusaur and get some offensive power. I chose the Assault Vest set mainly to allow it to safely switch into those checks. Same advice as landorus but always switch into manaphy when it sets up tail glow. It also is a decent talonflame check and can grab momentum while it switches. and can set up while at it.
Landorus-T - Lol no footprint is me
PLAYING ADVICE:This is a bulky balanced team that relies on safe predictions to win. There are plenty of resists and weaknesses in this team that needs to be used to pressure the opponent to switch out and for you to punish. That is because they are easily worn down and will not be able to tank. This team does not have exactly any certain win condition that guarantees your victory. However, a prefered state to be in the game is to have the core on good health will all of your opponent's walls or tanks dead or extremely worn down Also, try to keep certain pokes alive to counter specific pokemon that would otherwise destroy your team. If you need to sacrifice a pokemon, choose one that is affordable to lose. Just try to make a lot of safe predictions to guarantee your victory.
Clefable @ Leftovers
Ability: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Calm Nature
- Calm Mind
- Moonblast
- Soft-Boiled
- Flamethrower
Clefable - Just ol' me and raikou's and heatran's footprint here.
Aegis (Heatran) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 192 SpD / 68 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk

Any advice?
I wanted to make a Mega Venusaur Balanced team after I got 6-0ed by Mega Altaria.
Like every other team, there needs to be a strong core and the best partner to MegaVenu was Heatran and offers stealth rock too.
To complete this FWG Defensive core I decided to add either Slowbro or Quagsire. I ended up using Bro as it has Regenerator and Stat Boosts aren't a problem. Also the psychic typing helps me deal with those common fighting megas (Lopunny and Medicham).
Something I noticed about this core is that it doesn't have much offensive prowess barring Mega Venusaur so I decided to make the other 3 primarily offensive based. I decided on Choice Band Azumarill as it serves as an amazing wallbreaker and has priority.
I then noticed my team lacked speed and as a result would lose to hyper offense. I then added Landorus-T as it can revenge kill multiple things and has that u-turn
I then decided to add Clefable as it has great synergy with the first two members of my team and offers a solid win condition.
After testing this team, I realized I have a huge weakness to Manaphy and Clefable was not pulling its weight. So I replaced with Raikou as he checks Manaphy and destroys the flying types that Venusaur hates. Also, It offers a solid Volt-Turn Core

Landorus-T - Lol no footprint is me

PLAYING ADVICE:
This team has 3 checks/counters that I have currently found and one team style that hampers this team.
Bisharp is this team's greatest counter. Mainly because its Defiant Ability counters Landorus-T, cripples Venusaur and it pursuit traps slowbro. Usually, I have to sacrifice to kill it.
Weavile is the team's second counter because it also traps slowbro and can hurt venusaur pretty hard. It also has ice shard to kill landorus-therian. Only reliable check to it is azumarill
Hoopa-U is a check and I usually never have a problem but can destroy this team with the right moveset. Landorus-T easily threats it and if it is gone or runs substitute I can also rely on Venusaur since it barely runs any psychic coverage. If it runs psychic coverage and substitute that's when it will hurt my team.
Spikes wear down the core a lot as Heatran and Venusaur lack reliable recovery. I can't get rid of it but the opponent never actually has a chance to set it up. But if they do, its a big problem.
