Anime Conventions Anyone?

I will be attending Otakon this weekend, and was curious if any other Smogoners were going. I thought it'd be cool to meet up and maybe trade/battle, or whatever.

i usually go to Nekocon and AMA, sometimes Otakon. this summer i had to go to italy to visit my family, so i'm missing out on AMA and Otakon. i hope to be a panelist again this year at Nekocon, though.

I started going to cons with friends last year but at the moment I'm taking a bit of a break mostly due to the fact I need money for other things. Still, I hope you have fun. Oh, and you probably already know this, but make sure you pre-reg your own badge. I made the mistake of letting one of my friends do it for me once.

People want me to go cosplaying with them, but since there are no people of the brown skin tone in anime (It's like Brock and that's it), I wouldn't know who to do.

And I suck at having money to pay for the likes of conventions.

bob from speed grapher might be good...

pedro from excel saga...

sid from soul eater...

most of the other ones popping into my head are female, so i'll stop here unless you want to crossplay.

I hate anime conventions. Nowadays they're filled with preteens who love Naruto and Bleach. Cosplaying is also kind of lame, it was fun the first time but nobody even puts any effort into their constume. My girlfriend and I went as Jesse and James just for a laugh and we actually got people coming up to us trying to talk to us about the current season that was airing of the pokemon anime.

....like we'd actually watch that crap.

I can't be the only one who sees the irony in "nobody even puts effort into their costume" followed by "My girlfriend and I went as Jesse and James just for a laugh".

On the topic of anime conventions, I was thinking of going to Anime Evolution this year to check it out as I've never been to one, but I didn't know what date it was on until it actually happened and I saw it on the 24 hr free daily. A few friends did go. A few thought it was great, another few thought it wasn't worth the money. Some of them made some pretty kickass costumes. There was a TF2 tournament there though so I wish I went for that at least =(

Hey, we actually made our costumes pretty well. We looked like Jesse and James. We weren't wearing vague orange crap with a paper headband trying to look like Naruto.

A team fortress 2 tournament seems worth it.

Yeah, I don't know anyone of those brown characters.

I mean, I might go to one in the future, but not any time recently.

let us not forget that anime conventions usually have a plethora of vg tourneys. the common ones being;guilty gear, melty blood, guitar hero, rock band/guitar hero world tour, halo, smash, naruto, etc.

Yea, I plan on bringing my DS. And usually after the tourneys are over they let regular people play just for fun too.

And you get exposed to many new animes never seen before so you can get interested in new ones for free. I love it!

also, many conventions on the east coast have this nice older lady that goes and sells 10 manga for $40. that alone is a good reason to go.
