Annalysia's Team. (:

This is my first real Team.
I've made one before, but it was for giggles. It consisted of mainly UU Pokes.
Anyways, here's my actual team:
(Changes in bold)

407.png

Roserade@Focus Sash
Timid -- Natural Cure
EV(4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe)
Moveset:
~Sleeping Powder
~Toxic Spikes
~Leafstorm
~Hidden Power [Fire]

Basically, this beauty is used for putting other leads to sleep and setting up Toxic Spikes. Leafstorm is to hit mainly Swampert (along with other bulky waters.) Hidden Power is for steels and such.

snooze-snorlax.png

Snorlax@Leftovers
Careful -- Thick Fat
EV(244 HP / 28 Atk / 236 SpD)
Moveset:
~Rest
~Sleep Talk
~Body Slam
~Crunch

I used to have a Mamoswine in this position, but he wasn't cutting it. Snorlax is doing a bit better, with his ability to stall out with Toxic spikes quite well. Body Slam for a STAB and Crunch for ghosts who try to switch in. Nothing special, so a suggestion for his replacement would be nice. Either way, he's doing a decent job.

Vaporeon.png

Vaporeon@Leftovers
Bold -- Water Absorb
EV(188 HP / 252 Def / 68 Spe)
Moveset:
~Wish
~Protect
~Surf
~Hidden Power [Electric]

Vaporeon is my sturdy Wisher. She is able to pass wishes, or use them herself. Hopefully, Toxic Spikes will still be set up, allowing her to stall out other bulky waters, giving her the ability to stall. Protect works like an instant recovery, only wasting an extra turn, as well as being able to absorb explosions. Surf is just a STAB attack that can keep Heatran and the likes at bay. Hidden Power has been added in recently to take care of pesky Gyarados for the most part. Also just gives decent coverage.

094gengar.jpg

Gengar@Leftovers
Timid -- Levitate
EV(6 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe)
Moveset:
~Substitute
~Shadow Ball
~Thunderbolt
~Focus Blast

Gengar is wonderful. Able to switch in on Earthquakes, Rapid Spins, and more. Substitute is used when facing an opponent that wants to cripple him in some way. If this works, or I'm able to set up a sub in another form, this will also allow for a clean 2 hits, usually KO'ing the opponent. Shadow Ball for a STAB, Thunderbolt for waters (namely Empoleon who resists the toxic spikes), and Focus Blast for things such as pursuitTtar.

227.png

Skarmory@Leftovers
Impish -- Keen Eye
EV(252 HP / 64 Atk / 176 Def / 16 Spe)
Moveset:
~Spikes
~Roost
~Whirlwind
~Stealth Rock

Believe it or not, I never used to like Skarmory and would never use him... I was extremely dumb. After giving this guy a chance, I saw how awesome he can be. I used to run Brave Bird over Spikes, and while I miss it, I think I might enjoy having Spikes more. Spikes and SR for hazards, whirlwind to rack up those damages, and Roost to help last longer.

To be honest, I'm not sure this guy is really working for my team, so I might make a change.

330.png

Flygon@Choice Scarf
Adamant -- Levitate
EV(252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe)
Moveset:
~Outrage
~U-Turn
~Earthquake
~Fire Blast

This is my new baby. Thanks to Nozizaki, I replaced my Dragonite for this guy. So far, I'm in love. Very good for scouting, still brings in the resistances I needed (especially the x4 to fire) and better yet can switch in for Tricks. I love it's speed and it hits pretty hard, too. Using a simple Moveset collection, and I might change a few things up as I go.

Any opinions, comments, concerns, or questions would be greatly appreciated. I know this might not be the most uber team, but I've enjoyed it so far.

Well, since you have Toxic Spikes & Stealth Rock already, why not go for the whole package with Spikes? You already have someone who can stop Rapid Spin (Gengar), so I'd suggest you one up it-

Vaporeon gets Roar instead of Toxic, since you already have Toxic Spikes.
Skarmory gets Spikes instead of Brave Bird.

Vaporeon's Roar, Protect, Wish once everything is set up is a great thing to watch. You just need to be alert once a Rapid Spinner is present to have Gengar ready.

As for Dragonite's Outrage VS Dragon Claw, you're not running Choice Band nor Life Orb, so it won't hit as hard as it should, so if you're using Leftovers then Outrage would seem more reliable. I don't see when you'd be able to Dragon Dance with this team, but I might be overlooking something. I'd just suggest you switch him out briefly when Outrage ends. Extreemespeed is also an interesting option to finish others off after your Spikes & Stealth Rock do their job.

Just some initial thoughts. Nothing too detailed.

@Highlygifted:

Those are all interesting ideas, indeed.

One thing I don't enjoy, is a pokemon without at least one attack, so I'm reluctant to drop Brave Bird for Spikes. Perhaps, since Vaporeon would have Roar, I could drop Whirlwind for Spikes?

I'm just not a fan of layering 6 turns of hazards that could all be swept away within one turn, especially since Gengar isn't too stable as a switch-in. It could be something I'll try, though.

Dragonite being able to Ddance is actually surprisingly easy. He can take a decent chunk of hits, especially if I use Wish before swapping over.
I'll look at Outrage over Dragon Claw, because I agree with what you said. This is assuming I don't replace him with another Fire-resistant Phy Sweeper. Perhaps ChoiceFlygon.

I notice the fastest poke you have is Gengar. While 350 is good, a Scarfed Flygon is a very viable option. With Levitate he has the same principle as Dragonite, is much faster, and is meant to constantly switch with Outrage or U-Turn. I've seen it work well.

Flygon
Nature: Jolly/ Adamant Item: Choice Scarf Ability: Levitate
Moveset: -Earthquake
-Outrage
-U-Turn
-Stone Edge/Fire Blast
252 Atk/ 4 SpDef/ 252 Speed

It outspeeds almost everything, and can switch in on most Tricks. Just a suggestion.

Part of Skarmory's effectiveness is to be able to Whirlwind. You might wanna test just adding Roar to Vaporeon for now and see how that works out standalone, before deciding on Skarmory's Brave Bird.

And I guess Dragonite is bulky enough to DD and better yet with Wish support.

@Nozizaki

That is actually an idea I was having a few moments ago, myself. I played around with it on Shoddy, and I think it might be my option.

My only problem is that I enjoy having a pokemon that can DD and sweep if the opportunity presents itself. Though I think I might do this anyways. It also helps with my slight fire weakness, since Flygon is a x4 resist vs. Dragonite's x2.

Thank you!

@Highlygifted

I think I enjoy Vaporeon with Roar. Toxic was doing almost no good, since the ones that resist Toxic Spikes are flyers or steel, neither of which are really affected by toxic (whether it be their need to be stalled or the ability to not poison a steel). I think I'll keep this change, though I don't think I'll stick with a No-Brave-Bird Skarmory. :(

Thank you for both suggestions, though.

@All

Anymore suggestions? I know my team can still use some work, tweaking and such.

I don't know if you want spikes and stealth rocks but if you do then take off a move from mamoswine and give him stealth rocks and take stealth rocks off of skarmory for spikes. Just a suggestion.

@Charizard

That's a decent choice, as well. But I don't think I'm gonna take the time for 3 layers of spikes on top of Toxic Spikes and Stealth Rock. Especially when some of my most common threats aren't hit by them anyways. And that's assuming they're not Rapid Spun away.

One of them being Gliscor, he seems to really mess my team up if Mamoswine goes down.

^ Sheer idiocy. Superpower from Mamoswine will go first and OHKO, bud.

I don't know; this team feels a bit weak to Anti-Lead Machamp. Roserade is getting nowhere by Sleep Powdering it, and Leaf Storm is no OHKO. Gengar can't be relied on to soak up the Dynamicpunches due to Payback's prevalence on LeadChamp's set, anyhow. The best solution here is to let someone die, but this is the thinking that is making people think Mence should go to Ubers because they think it's assured that someone is going to die once Mence gets in. Maybe you should lead with Swampert who has a chance at standing up against Machamp, or maybe even Lum Leadgross.

@GaRgAnt

Yea, that Machamp can be very annoying at times. Usually what I have to do is switch into Skarmory. Brave Bird picks him off quite quickly (and I might even have a chance to set up Stealth Rocks faster this way). Vaporeon can even take him down if Wishes are used correctly. I'd never keep Roserade in if Machamp is leading, that's for sure. I need to save her Toxic Spikes for later. (:

Which leads to your next suggestion. Swampert would be fine, if I didn't enjoy Toxic Spikes so much. Also, without Roserade, I don't have something to OHKO enemy Swampert.

Thank you for your input, and I'll see if there's a way to help minimize my Machamp weakness. (:

A few nitpicks first. One, Flygon isn't 4x resistant to fire (only 2x) so you might want to be careful of switching it into random Heatran Fire Blasts or something. Two, you say Thunderbolt is for Empoleon mainly, but Focus Blast OHKOes it anyway. On that note, Gengar doesn't really need Thunderbolt all that much, so try Pain Split over that and give Gengar a Life Orb instead. It gives you a lot more power in your other moves and the ability to beat Blissey 1v1 and still gives you good survivability. Also, this Gengar can switch into most Gliscor pretty safely (since most variants now carry only Earthquake and Toxic, both of which Gengar is immune to).

Also, Fire Blast on an Adamant Flygon doesn't help much (fails to even 3HKO Specially Defensive Skarmory). There isn't much you can do if you want to keep Flygon's bulk, but try testing Thunderpunch or Stone Edge over Fire Blast. Thunderpunch allows you to revenge DDGyarados with 100% reliability, while Stone Edge covers both Gyarados and Salamence (the latter so you don't need to Outrage early). I'm not sure how you play Flygon (i.e. bringing it in on Forry or something), so disregard this if you do find Fire Blast useful.

Forgive me if I sound blunt, but what exactly do Toxic Spikes do for your team? I don't see any stallers here that would take advantage of them. Switchins to Vaporeon usually tend to force it out quite quickly or just don't care with Natural Cure (Blissey). Bulky waters don't have a reason to switch into Vaporeon; it's usually the other way around. I do see that you like Toxic Spikes, though, so I'll suggest you try the following sets:

over Skarmory:
Jirachi @ Leftovers
Bold (252 HP / 220 Def / 32 Spe)
- Calm Mind
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt
- Wish

over Vaporeon:
Gyarados @ Life Orb
Jolly (4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe)
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake

Skarmory in general doesn't fit too well with the team IMO since it's not really all that stally, like I've said. Toxic Spikes aren't really something you need to Whirlwind around, so Skarm is basically fulfilling the role of being generally sturdy. This Jirachi does the same thing and also has an offensive role, with the bonus of using Toxic Spikes pretty well since it sets up over a longer time. Since this Jirachi provides Wish support as well, having Vaporeon around is somewhat redundant. If you decide to use this Jirachi, you might also want to use Gyarados along with it (don't use it if you don't use Jirachi unless you're fine without Wish support).

This Gyarados provides many things. First, it gives you a solution to your Machamp issue since most lead variants carry Ice Punch over Stone Edge. Second, it has good synergy with the Jirachi I suggested, particularly since Jirachi can first stall out all the bulky waters that would switch into a normal Jirachi, which makes it easier for Gyarados to sweep. It also gives you that opportunity for a quick sweep, which you said you missed due to the removal of your DD Dragonite.

Give these a try. I'm not sure whether they'll fit your playstyle, but these changes seem appropriate to me to better take advantage of Toxic Spikes. Anyway, I hope I helped. Good luck with the team!

EDIT: I just realized these changes make you short one Stealth Rock user. To compensate, I think it's worth it to put SR on Mamoswine over Superpower, since that really only covers Bronzong (who you have little to no trouble with if you take the Gyarados). I can't suggest any replacements for Mamoswine in general because I don't use it myself and I can't say exactly how useful it is.

@Wanderer

That change to Gengar might be something I'll really look into. I enjoy the idea of thunderbolt for gyarados; however, I do see Pain Split being extremely viable especially for life orb / substitute. I'll -definitely- try this.

I definitely agree with your Flygon suggestion. I guess I just had it for steels, since (outside of Roserade) I lack a fire move. And since she's my lead, she can die quickly. Stone Edge, especially as Adamant, should do much better.
Thank you. (:

Toxic spikes is my quick way to add an effect to opponents, helping whittle down their HP. There are times I only do one layer, since it will cause more damage the first few turns than two layers. My other Pokes lack other ways to cripple them with a status effect.

So far I've really liked Skarmory... and I don't have access to a Jirachi. So that's a change I might have to try sometime later.

@All
I'm really having a difficult time with Vaporeon's last move. Toxic and Roar aren't really giving me what I need....
Any suggestions? I'm having a tough time with this one.

Oh, is this a Wi-fi team? Sorry, I just assumed it was for a simulator since I didn't see mention of that anywhere.

Anyway, Ice Beam and HP Electric (though the latter is harder to get on Wi-fi) are both viable options to prevent Mence and Gyara from setting up on you, respectively. Other options are Heal Bell or Yawn. If you don't like any of those either, you can run Baton Pass to scout the enemy switch-in and get slow Wishes to your pokes (meaning Vaporeon takes the hit, not the other poke).

if you live in the states you can get a jirachi via wifi till the 16 of july i think. why don't you just use ice beam in the last slot?

@dfabassist

I might just end up doing that. Usually between Flygon and Mamoswine, I don't have problems with dragons or grass pokes. But, a solid ice beam on my support can work.
(:

The original name of this team drew me in.

Without Roar or Skarmory's Whirlwind, Offensive CM Cune looks like a problem, setting up on Vaporeon and taking half your team with it, because you can't kill it with any one attack after a CM. Yawn or Roar should go in Vappy's last slot.

Also, Flygon should be Jolly, to speed tie with +1 mence and stuff.

Also, you have one ice resist. A Scarf Abomasnow or Glaceon could Blizzard quite a bit of stuff to death, while a Sub Empoleon could switch on Vaporeon and Sub up, taking down at least one of your pokemon.

Why don't you run a Choice Band Scizor over Skarm? Great synergy with Flygon, resists Ice, kills Ice (and a ton of other stuff). Also, Jirachi is a pain to get the right nature from.

@Darkamber8828

So should I do both whirlwind and roar? Just for extra cover?
It's something I'm willing to test again, since I can't really find anything else that seems to fit the spot. I almost never used ice beam on her when I tested it on Shoddy.

Adamant or Jolly for Flygon has bee a huge debate of mine. I like adamant for the extra umph, and I figured since he was sporting a Choice Scarf, speed wouldn't be as much of an issue.
I'll test out Jolly, too. See if I don't miss the little extra attacking power.

Lastly, on the Scizor option. I am -so- reluctant to dump Skarmory, that metal bird has actually won me more than one match from being able to heal, phaze, and use a powerful STAB attack. Also, he's my Stealth Rocker, so that makes me even more hesitant.

Either way, I really appreciate your input, and I'll definitely test out a few of these things to hopefully better me team. And yes, Cune can give me some major problems.

(:

Hi, I played you on the ladder earlier today "-HAX ME I DARE" as my alt and I noticed that you used this team against me.

Your team had huge trouble against scarf Rotom-H and is the team biggest weakness. Mamoswine really isn't giving this team synergy, you already have Flygon as the ground type, why add another?

Anyway, I suggest scarf Tyranitar to get rid of annoying Rotom and will help your team a lot.

Good luck :)
