VGC Another Mega Charizard Sun Team... Wait, Mega Salamence??

Hey guys, so I've been experimenting around with VGC ever since the 2015 Season started. I started watching PokeTubers like ShadyPenguin, PokeaimMD, and Cybertron (especially Cybertron) to try to get the hang of the VGC format. I've been in the Singles metagame for quite a while, but this VGC stuff is really difficult to grasp.
Anyways, I've created a sun team because using weather is just really helpful it seems in VGC and I'm scared of Mega Swamperts.
Anyways, let's get into the actual RMT:

Here's a quick team preview:

I really wanted to use both Mega Charizard as a Drought user and Mega Salamence as an overall badass.

Next, I chose a standard VGC Sun Team Venusaur to compliment Charizard because Venusaur is probably one of the best Chlorophyll users in the meta. Also, Venusaur acts as an amazing Water Type killer.

In the sun, I needed a Fire Type killer so that other Fire Types couldn't freely abuse the sun that I've set up. Terrakion works very well for that role.

Now I needed a Rock Type killer because both of my Megas are weak to Rock.

Finally, Aegislash is probably the most replaceable member of my team. It's really only on here to counter Trick Room setters and function in Trick Room.

Now let's get into an in-depth analysis of each Pokemon.
Quick note: I have NO idea what-so-ever on how to approach EV-ing. So I'm using either standard spreads or simple 252/252/4 spreads.

The formatting I will be using for each in-depth analysis will look like this:

Pokemon @ Item - Reasons
Ability - Reasons
EVs - Reasons
Moves - Reasons

Playstyle

So if I don't have three lines of information, that's because much of the information is already added in the set itself.

charizard-megay.gif

Charizard @ Charizardite Y - For MEGA
Ability: Blaze - So Tracers can't trace Solar Power and be really powerful under Sun
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe - Just a standard EV spread for now
Timid Nature - For more speed
IVs: 0 Atk - Less Foul Play Damage
- Solar Beam - For pesky Water Types
- Heat Wave - STAB Spread move
- Tailwind - I can't think of another move to put here
- Protect - It's VGC, Protect is pretty much mandatory

Charizard is my main Mega Pokemon. It sets up the Sun and just dishes out high amounts of damage. Usually it has to Mega Evolve and go for the Protect to scout out for Rock Slides, though Chlorophyll Venusaur, whether with Sleep Powder or Giga Drain, will usually help clean Rock Types out for Charizard pretty easily.

salamence-mega.gif

Salamence @ Salamencite - For MEGA
Ability: Intimidate - Moxie is unecessary, Intimidate is always good in VGC
Happiness: 0 - For Frustration power just in case of stray Dittos for whatever reason
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe - Just another 252/252/4 set, idk what to do for EVs
Naive Nature - Add speed and have more Physical Bulk for Priority attacks
- Hyper Voice - Spread, STAB strong move
- Frustration - Physical STAB just in case of meeting Special Walls
- Draco Meteor - Other coverage
- Protect - Scouting for Ice Beams/Ice Shards

Salamence is my alternate Mega Pokemon. At first I needed a Dragon Killer on the team, so I used Salamence. But as I played, I realized that I might as well use Mega Salamence because if there are Dragons on the opposing side, I wouldn't want to bring Charizard or Venusaur anyways. Besides, Mega Salamence is just too OP.

venusaur.gif

Venusaur @ Wide Lens - For Sleep Powder accuracy
Ability: Chlorophyll - Taking advantage of the Sun
EVs: 240 HP / 252 SpA / 16 Spe - Standard set I pulled off of the Showdown Calc
Modest Nature - For damage
IVs: 0 Atk - Less Foul Play damage
- Giga Drain - STAB move, just 5 less BP than Energy Ball and it has recovery
- Sludge Bomb - Another STAB
- Sleep Powder - Fast sleep is amazing, when it hits
- Protect - For scouting

Venusaur's main job is really to Sleep Powder everything on the opposing side of the field and to get rid of pesky Water/Rock Types for, mainly, Mega Charizard. It also does a good job helping with Sylveons as a Heatwave+Sludge Bomb will get rid of one. Usually if I'm using Salamence, I won't bring Venusaur.

terrakion.gif

Terrakion @ Focus Sash - In case of speed ties with other Terrakions
Ability: Justified - Only ability
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe - Only need Speed and Attack because Terrakion has Focus Sash anyways
Jolly Nature - More Speed
- Rock Slide - Spread STAB, to take care of other Charizards
- Close Combat - Strong STAB
- Earthquake - Strong Spread move
- Protect - Luring in Fighting Type attacks

Terrakion is a really good Fire Type killer. Its Rock Slides and Earthquakes will kill pretty much every Fire Type. Terrakion also deals well with Ice Types. Close Combat can also 2HKO Rotom-W. Terrakion also does well to draw Water and Grass Type attacks away from my Megas, so it can protect while its partners attack.

bisharp.gif

Bisharp @ Life Orb - For more power
Ability: Defiant - Best VGC ability
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def - Just another 252/252/4 set, this one should definitely change
Adamant Nature - More power
- Iron Head - STAB
- Sucker Punch - Priority STAB
- Knock Off - Strong STAB
- Protect - Fighting Types moves will literally shit on Bisharp's life

Bisharp is my main Trick Room counter. It will hit pretty much every Trick Room user (I think) for Super Effective Damage. Paired with a Spread move from Bisharp's partner, Trick Room setters will have a very hard time setting up. Bisharp can also attack under Trick Room to some degree, but not really which is why I have Aegislash on the team.

aegislash.gif

Aegislash @ Weakness Policy - Get hit and starting wrecking
Ability: Stance Change - Only ability
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpA - Yet another standard 252/252/4 spread
Quiet Nature - For Trick rooming
IVs: 0 Spe - Trick rooming
- Wide Guard - For those pesky spread moves
- Shadow Ball - Strong STAB
- Shadow Sneak - Priority STAB
- King's Shield - Protect with stat drop

Aegislash works well under Trick Room and it also just hits extremely hard. With all of my other fast Pokemon backing Aegislash up, Shadow Sneaks will usually get an opposing Pokemon to a low enough HP to KO them. Wide Guard helps with extra precaution against spread moves. HOWEVER, I use Aegislash VERY VERY little. I want to replace Aegislash with another attacker, but I don't know how. Maybe Milotic or another Trick Room attacker with more Type coverage for my team.

Facing opposing Sun Teams

So that's my team. It has served me just average. I'm only at about 1300 on Battle Spot Double on Showdown, so still pretty low ladder.

For a sun team, you don't seem to have a dedicated lando counter. Once aegi is dead or taunted, you flat lose to it. It looks like you're going for all out special megamence, so maybe Hydro pump>frustration? Mixmence that may or may not be mega is overcomplicated and underwhelming.

Also, another move instead of twind on zard could be overheat, which does major damage when you really need it.

Venu's item should be life orb, as it nabs considerable extra damage on things like washtom and garde. An extra 10% acc really doesn't do much at all.
