VGC Another Mega-Mance team (first VGC)

Mega-Mance

This has been my first attempt at a VGC team just a heads up. now that said i spent a decent amount of time working on this and trying to make a team that at least looked halfway decent. i opted for two Megas (Mance and Mawile) because they effectively gave me the Steel/Dragon/Fairy core, and while i cant use both in the same battle, during team preview i can typically determine which would be better for that particular matchup while making my team harder to predict during preview as well. anyways heres the team

salamence.gif

Salamence-Mega @ Salamencite
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 80 HP / 172 Atk / 80 SpA / 176 Spe
Mild Nature
- Protect
- Roost
- Double-Edge
- Hyper Voice

Salamance is where i started with the team with Mega-Mance mainly because of personal preference. From the moment i saw him back when gen 3 came out i loved him (not as much as i love my gengar, but i still really like him). Now i didn't just pick him because of personal preference though, he is defiantly a major offensive threat, with Aerialite Double-Edge, packs a massive punch, and Hyper Voice isnt something that should be messed with, roost is there to keep the fight going, protect is there as a filler move; any alternative moves there are greatly appreciated. i'm not sure how optimal the EV's are, so if there is a more efficient spread id appreciate the feedback.

aegislash.gif

Aegislash @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Stance Change
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 100 Atk / 156 SpD
Brave Nature
IVs: 0 Spe
- Wide Guard
- King's Shield
- Gyro Ball
- Pursuit

Aegislash is there as a solid teammate with Mega-Mance. wide guard is there to help protect him from Origin Pulse , rock slide, and icy wind, the latter of which cripples mega-mance. im sure there are more moves out there but off the top of my head those are the moves that come to mind. King's Shield is there because stance change, Gyro ball kills fairies, and i opted for the physical variant to capitalize on his slow speed. I opted for Pursuit over Shadow sneak since i was running Yveltal and i wanted to get the most out of the dark aura, just looking to capitalize on any synergies i can find. as before any more optimal ev spreads are appreciated.

yveltal.gif

Yveltal @ Black Glasses
Ability: Dark Aura
Level: 50
EVs: 148 HP / 252 SpA / 108 Spe
Rash Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Oblivion Wing
- Heat Wave
- Tailwind

Yveltal is there to check any rogue psychic types running around, plus Dark pulse can take down a weakened Pdon, which is a plus. Dark pulse is special and STAB, something to note about the set im opting for a full special set, mainly because dark pulse can cover most threats reliably, OHKOing several builds of Pdon without damage, 2HKO's others after a little damage, it also OHKO's Mega Ray, and takes a sizable chunk out of defensive Poger. O-wing is recovery on a stick, and heat wave is there for AOE fire coverage for opposing amoonguss, ferrothorn, breloom, Kyu-white, etc. Tailwind is there to help Mega-Mance and Poger sweep effectively, although i am not opposed to potentially changing this move or heat wave out with anything more efficient. as with the prior two mon i'm not certain how optimal this ev spread is and feedback there would be appreciated

kyogre.gif

Kyogre-Primal @ Blue Orb
Ability: Primordial Sea
Level: 50
EVs: 172 HP / 252 SpA / 84 Spe
Modest Nature
- Origin Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Thunder
- Calm Mind

I'm running Poger for weather support, and because in the Pdon vs Poger matchup, i personally like oger more. Origin Pulse under rain kills, thats the best way i can put it. Ice beam is for the ever present dragons and Poger for those times when rain isn't on our side. Im running beam over blizzard due to the fact that its more reliable and still deals enough damage for me to not mind the drop too much. Thunder kills suicune and other Pogers running around, and calm mind for free setups. I haven't had too many opportunities to CM so if theres a more optimal move or EV spread that would be great.

mawile-mega.gif

Mawile-Mega @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 248 HP / 16 Atk / 244 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Sucker Punch
- Iron Head
- Play Rough
- Baton Pass

Mawile is my alternative Mega due to its typing mainly. Iron head and play rough are great coverage options for the ever present dragons and Xern. Sucker punch is a move i'm on the fence about, mainly because with all the protect moves running around i'm just not convinced on priority's viability. Baton pass is used seeing how this build is really slow and can take a hit, baton pass will let me switch in essentially on the end of the turn so whatever mon i send in doesn't take too much (if any) damage. so an alternative to sucker punch and as always any more optimized EV spreads are welcome

amoonguss.gif

Amoonguss @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
Level: 50
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Rage Powder
- Spore
- Protect
- Giga Drain

Amoonguss is a mon im not sure about yet, and have been considering replacing but im not sure who i would want to run over him yet. Rage powder is for Re-direction, spore makes stuff fall asleep, protect because protect and Giga drain for Special STAB. rocky helmet is there to punish Mega-Kahn and any other physical attacker who wants to hit him. any suggestions as to a replacement or modified build would be very much appreciated here. ive thought about maybe lando-t or thunderus-i but again, im on the fence on both.

i appreciate any and all advice you guys can offer, thanks in advance Boxcar out-

Hi BoxcarJack :) really like the team
there are a couple of minor suggestions i have for the team, and these will just be EV spread changes and move changes because you have a pretty solid team already, quite impressive for a first attempt :)

salamence-mega.gif

Salamence-Mega @ Salamencite
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive/Timid Nature

- Double-Edge / Fire Blast
- Draco Meteor

- Hyper Voice
- Protect

This is salamence's standard vgc spread, and i would recommend that you run it simply because salamence appreciates fast offence over bulk in this hard-hitting meta, so having a naive>mild nature and running draco meteor>roost allows you to outrun and OHKO mega rayquaza, which it couldn't do before. It's only a minor change but definitely one worth considering. Fire blast with timid nature would be a good option if you choose to use my next suggestion:

717.gif

Yveltal @ Black Glasses
Ability: Dark Aura
Level: 50
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Hasty Nature
- Dark Pulse
- Oblivion Wing
- Sucker Punch
- Tailwind

Could you clarify what your EV spread does?
I'm just curious :p
Anyway, I would recommend swapping out heat wave for sucker punch, as it is one of yvetal's best moves, being one of the strongest priority moves in the game, allowing it to chunk many common pokemon in the current meta. Being able to use it in conjunction with mega mawile with both under the influence of dark aura does tonnes of damage, getting the OHKO on many unresisted pokemon, which is a combo i would really recommend you utilize with this team.

kyogre-primal.gif

All i would really change with kyogre is running protect over calm mind. it just allows kyogre to sweep more freely under tailwind and gives it the chance to play defensively if need be. (also could you explain what your EVs do? thanks)

303-mega.gif

Mawile-Mega @ Mawilite
Ability: Intimidate
Level: 50
EVs: 148 HP / 252 Atk / 108 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Play Rough
- Iron Head
- Sucker Punch
- Protect

I've already mentioned sucker punch, but it is probably one of mawile's best moves, since it desperately needs priority due to its low speed. The EVs here allow it to outspeed mega kangaskhan under tailwind, with the rest in HP. Mawile has the ability to check/counter threats to yveltal, like mega kangaskhan and xerneas, which is why i suggest this set to run alongside yvetal.

591.gif

Amoonguss @ Occa Berry
Ability: Regenerator
Level: 50
EVs: 236 HP / 116 Def / 156 SpD
Sassy Nature

- Spore
- Rage Powder
- Grass Knot
- Gastro Acid

This is the amoonguss set that scar used in the GS cup. It would work nicely alongside primal kyogre, allowing it to win the Primal Groudon matchup with gastro acid, whilst being able to survive a max investment overheat from groudon. Grass knot is preferred in this meta because of the prominence of primal kyogre.

Hope these suggestions help, and good luck with the team :)

first off thanks for the rate.

in regards to the spreads you asked about (Yveltal, and Kyoger) i had pretty much used the sets on the smogon ubers page (the one you pull up on team builder if memory serves) the only real deviance is on Yveltal who i dropped the attack EV's when i went full special and put them into hp and Speed. in hindsight it seems like a really bad idea but i'm going to blame that on my lack of experience as a player (i've been playing OU for like a month and thats it) i appreciate all the feedback ill defiantly put it to good use. thanks again
