VGC Antimeta with RayOgre

Hi guys! I am Chantaraya, and this is my first RMT.
default_smile.png
This team is based on a Japanese archetype of RayOgre that tries to go against the main tendencies in this metagame, and I tried to modify it as I felt I was more confortable with. The problem is that I would really like to bring it to a PC so I really need help urgently :/ So,let’s go onto the team!

crobat.png

Crobat @ Lum Berry

Ability: Inner Focus

Level: 50

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 Spe

Timid Nature

IVs: 0 Atk

- Tailwind

- Taunt

- Super Fang

- Quick Guard

The first one is Crobat,a really underrated threat that can support very well his teammates. Thanks to his Inner Focus ability can do whatever he wants without being flinched by Fake Outs or whatever.252 evs in def give him a really good chance to survive a Double Edge by Jolly Mega Kangaskhan (even if in practice it never happened but ok) and with max speed outspeeds a lot of threats.Timid nature because he doesn’t use any kind of attack besides Super Fang.lum Berry is here nearly exclusively to check Smeargle and his Dark Void. The moves are pretty straightforward, with Tailwind for speed control,Super Fang for giving me another source of chip damage and Quick Guard for protecting himself and his teammates from priority moves.Despite the original version had Haze,I replaced it with Taunt because I found I needed it more than resetting stats.

gengar-mega.png

Gengar-Mega @ Gengarite

Ability: Shadow Tag

Level: 50

EVs: 12 HP / 92 Def / 180 SpA / 4 SpD / 220 Spe

Timid Nature

- Icy Wind

- Taunt

- Protect

- Sludge Bomb

The next one is Crobat's partner in crime,Mega Gengar.I apported only one change in his set,and it is Icy Wind>Hidden Power Ice.I actually never felt that Salamence is such a pain for the team, and so I settled for Icy Wind to maintain the Ice coverage and to have another speed control option.Of course,if nedded I would rebreed the Gengar. The other moves are standard anti Xerneas moves,Taunt to prevent the setup and Sludge Bomb to smack it.I would really like to fit Substitute in his moveset but I really need all these three moves.

kyogre-primal.png

Kyogre-Primal @ Blue Orb

Ability: Primordial Sea

Level: 50

EVs: 236 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA / 4 SpD / 12 Spe

Modest Nature

- Water Spout

- Origin Pulse/Scald

- Ice Beam

- Protect

My first restricted legendary is Kyogre, and I really love its wallbreaking power.236 HP/252 Def let Kyogre have a good chance to be 3HKOed by 252+ Groudon's Precipice Blades, with 12 evs for speed creeping other base 90s.Even with only 4 SpA evs it still has a massive 221 SpA stat and when you add rain to the mix it really can wreak havoc in the opposing team.Water Spout is the main move of the set,and cleanly OHKOes nearly everything beside resists. As the next water STAB,I settled with Origin Pulse because it still hits hard and it is a spread move, but sometimes I really appreciate to have a 100% accurate move like Scald, also for preventing some random Wide Guarders.Ice Beam is the only staple move, and lets Kyogre hit Groudon in Desolate Land and nearly every Water resists in the meta for neutral damage.

rayquaza-mega.png

Rayquaza-Mega @ Focus Sash

Ability: Delta Stream

Level: 50

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

Jolly Nature

- Dragon Ascent

- Extreme Speed

- Overheat

- Protect

The next restricted mon is Rayquaza.I apported a change in the Ev Spread, giving it max speed because lots of times I found Ray being double-targeted by faster opponents (including opposing Rayquazas) without even moving. This increase in speed doesn't bother me because I still have the Focus Sash that lets him survive lots of attacks.Dragon Ascent is staple, lets Ray mega evolve when needed and is a really hard hitting STAB in general.Extreme Speed is a really useful priority that lets Ray hit before nearly everyone, including Talonflame and preventing other priority users to harm my team.Overheat is really necessary because it obliterates Ferrothorn, the public enemy #1 of Ray Ogre teams.Protect is Protect.

raichu.png

Raichu (F) @ Life Orb

Ability: Lightning Rod

Level: 50

EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe

Jolly Nature

- Volt Tackle

- Fake Out

- Feint

- Thunder Wave

First mon changed, but is the least solid one.I didn't like Zapdos too much, like it was in the original team, and I tried to find a substitute.Raichu is one of my Kyogre checks, mainly with Volt Tackle, that hits really hard thanks to the fact I am using a Life Orb instead of a more standard Zap Plate.Fake Out support is nice for this team, since for example permits the other teammates to get an attack or whatever else without being harmed.Feint is useful as well, because sometimes opponents try to stall out my Tailwind turns protecting their mons, and Feint prevent this.Thunder Wave is because I didn't have access to Nuzzle and I still wanted a paralyzing move. The main thing that lets me think Raichu as a not solid mon in thi team is because is rather fragile, and it is a pity because is also one of my “answers” to Yveltal.

ferrothorn.png

Ferrothorn @ Leftovers

Ability: Iron Barbs

Level: 50

EVs: 252 HP / 196 Atk / 60 SpD

Sassy Nature

IVs: 0 Spe

- Gyro Ball

-Power Whip

- Leech Seed

- Protect

Ferrothorn takes his place in the team in the original Aegislash slot. Why?Because I always loved how Ferrothorn can perform well in a team, and is also useful in case of a mirror match with an opposing Ray Ogre team.Anyway the set is quite standard, with the ev spread that lets Ferro KO Xerneas with Gyro Ball and the rest in spdef with a Sassy nature to take better the powerful special attacks that are in the tier.Power Whip is his primary weapon against opposing Kyogres, and does its job well.Gyro Ball most of the times is my STAB of choice, due to him being so slow.Leech Seed is also useful to take some HP from opponent.

So,this is the team

I wanted to say a big thank you to the Nugget Bridge users necrocat219 and MonkeyWarlock for their analysis and traslation of the core and the team themselves, because they imported here a great idea for everyone that wants to go "antimeta"!

Thanks

This looks a lot like the Gengar team that's been running around in Japan. Don't have a lot to rate, this team looks great.

I like the Icy Wind option on Gengar. It still chunks out Ray and Mence.

Actually I am now re testing Zapdos in place of Raichu, and is performing better.
But the biggest problem is Ferrothorn, that thing is everywhere and walls most of my team. How can I solve this problem?

Well you have Overheat on Ray, but I might consider replacing Raichu with Lando. The intimidate option is nice and he's a good answer to Ferrothorn. I don't have a lot of experience using him this year though, so perhaps Draconid997 can give you a spread. I would probably start with a set like this;

landorus-therian.gif

Landorus @ Choice Band
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Intimidate
EV's: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Speed /
-Explosion
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-U-Turn

It does slightly weaken your damage against Kyogre, but having another way to hit Groudon and take care of Ferrothorn is great.

Ideally landorus needs to be assault vest to check both special/physical groudon sets, but for band lando, iProdigy's spread works
If you want a spread for AV, this one should do:
(Adamant/jolly)
4 HP / 236 Atk / 4 Def / 12 SpD / 252 Spe
- outspeeds max speed neutral base 90s with adamant ntr (by 1)
- outspeeds max speed positive nature base 90s with jolly nature
- survives primal groudon's eruption

Thank you for your suggestion, I will give it a try :)
Another thing I noted is that Kyurem-W (especially the scarf variant with Gravity support) eats pratically all my team for breakfast. What can I do for this?
Thanks :)

For Kyurem-W, I've found the most success figuring out what his role is on the team and trying to play around it. Baring that, maybe replacing Overheat with Draco Meteor on Rayquaza. He's a difficult Pokémon to play around for sure.

I don't see what he's supposed to do against Ferrothorn without Overheat. They could maybe run Aegislash over Ferrothorn or something and do a pretty big chunk with Shadow Ball (and also doesn't really give a shit about its attacks in Shield forme), but with the way the team is now, it seems like Ferrothorn is going to be a tough beat without Overheat on Rayquaza and Aegislash isn't really that good.

Re: Kyurem-W: You have Kyogre, which completely blocks Fusion Flare thanks to Primordial Sea. If you send in Kyogre, Ferrothorn becomes an acceptable answer to Kyurem-W as Ferro 2HKOes with Gyro Ball and, with your EVs, Kyurem doesn't 2HKO back with Ice Beam.
