I have been trying to find a set of decent team mates for this team idea I have but I keep coming up with very little in the way of feasible choices. Most times I have a lot of weaknesses or they just don’t seem to work well together. I am planning on using this as a Wi-fi team.
My idea is this:
Tentacruel @ Black Sludge - Evs: 58HP/ 252 SpDef/ 200 Spd
Ability: Liquid Ooze
Gentle (could not get a Calm one with Rapid Spin… everything but)
- Toxic Spikes
- Rapid Spin
- Surf
- Sludge Bomb
Umbreon @ Leftovers - Ev: 200 HP/ 110 Def/ 200 SpDef
Ability: Synchronize
Careful
- Toxic
- Curse
- Baton Pass
- Faint Attack
Jirachi @ White Herb – Evs: 4 HP/ 252 Attk/ 252 Spd
Ability: Serene Grace
Adamant
- Thunderpunch
- Ice Punch
- Fire Punch
- Cosmic Power
Gengar @ Choice Scarf – Evs: 64 HP/ 252 SpAttk/ 192 Spd
Ability: Levitate
Modest
- Shadow Ball
- Hypnosis
- Thunderbolt
- Psychic*/ Focus Blast
Salamence @ Muscle Band – Evs: 6HP/ 252 Attk/ 252 Spd
Ability: Intimidate
Jolly
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw
- Fire Fang
Starmie @ Leftovers – Evs: 200 HP/ 52 SpAttk/ 252 Spd
Ability: Natural Cure
Timid
- Psychic
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Recover*/ Reflect
The strategy was initially to set up the Toxic spikes (x2) with Tentacruel then switch out to either a pokemon that can deal with whatever the threat is present, like Gengar or to start the Curse chain with Umbreon (probably at least two curses, 3 if possible and 4 max) and then Toxic. Using Leftovers, my very high Special Defense stat and the raised Defense to take the hits on the set up I would then Baton Pass out. (Surprisingly, Umbreon managed to do quite well even against a few fighting type hits. I was shocked!)
On the BP, Jirachi would receive the Curse boosts and use the White Herb to reset the speed dropped side-effect. After that, a simple Cosmic power would further boost his special defense and defense or he could proceed to sweep. (I have found that an ice punch after 3 calm minds have been destroying Garchomp, Slamence and Rayquaza in 1 hit as long as I can survive a hit by them if they are faster).
Salamence’s DD and Physical move set seems like a good late game sweeper, though I am aware that apparently a Hippowdon can prove problematic for an all physical Salamence. I decided to use Starmie as a counter to him… and possibly a counter to Garchomp, or at least the 1st of two Pokemon to counter Garchomp. I don’t like having two water types on one team though, and I have had problems figuring out if I can successfully counter Electivire. I figure Starmie might not be the best 6th, but other than the Tentacruel/Umbreon/Jirachi trio, I have no idea how best to build around this team.
Jirachi is not a Physical sweeper by nature, but I find that is a very big surprise for people when it comes out and has great type coverage set on it. Umbreon still falls to a critical hit or I mispredict the move of my opponent and lose the plan altogether thereby making Jirachi not as effective on the team with the White Herb. After that, the team struggles to keep afloat. I was hoping if this idea was okay to get some guidance on which teammates to support them with. Any suggestions?
