Anybody else taken the ASVAB test?

ASVAB = Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (leave it to the government to make things complicated).

I took it early last month and just got my results today, and I'm pretty happy. For a sophomore, I scored higher than 99% of all other sophomores who took this test in verbal, math, and science and technical skills, and in paragraph comprehension, mechanical comprehension, and mathematics knowledge. I scored better than 96-98% others in arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, and electronics information, and I scored higher than 63% of the others in auto and shop information (haven't taken that class yet, though). Last, I got a Military Entrance Score of 97, which I'm guessing is pretty good.

Has anybody else take this, and if you did, do you think that it helped you out much in determining your future carreers? So far, it's told me pretty much what I already knew, but it also gave some examples of some interesting careers that I hadn't considered. I'm still probably going into the military, though.

no but I took a forklift operations test today at an interview.

That really caught me off-guard but I did a decent enough 31/36!

On the military note, I seriously considered West Point for college until this summer. I went for a week long Summer Leadership Seminar 2007,which was basically a college visit, in June. It was one of the greatest experiences of my young life.

It was an amazing place that offers endless opportunities. Just as high schoolers, some of the sessions that we took and the faculty that we met gave a very good indication of just how good a school it is. Not only that, but you don't have to worry about a job, you're just required to participate in athletics (intramural or Varsity sports). They have a ton of clubs and sports so I think that it would've been a blast.

When it comes to the military training, I wouldn't have minded at all. We had PT (physical training) every day. I didn't look forward to it at all but I enjoy testing my limits. I had no problem keeping up with whatever they threw at us.

What it all came down to for me was the obligatory 5 years of service. Even though you were commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, there was no guarantee that you would not be placed in harm's way. I would love to serve my country but I don't want my life to end. Looking at some of the kids who went there and seeing how passionate they were on becoming an officer in the military and making a career out of it, I realized that it wasn't the place for me.

I've seriously considered West Point and other military academies, and I still am. I think it would be a great way to live my life until I finally decide what I'd want to do, and then once my service is over - if I don't decide to make a career out of it - then I basically get my college education paid for.

the test is out of 99 so you did exceptionally well. i got a 99 when i took it. the asvab is actually the reason i didn't join the military.after i took the test and got the results back in the recruiting office they basically begged me to join, which is an extreme turn off in any situation. i asked what the average score was and the recruiter told me the national average was somewhere in the mid 70's which is basically my reason for not joining (i hate working with people who are exceptionally slower than me). the test was a complete joke anyway, the hardest problem i had to do was some rudimentary physics problem about finding an objects velocity. all of the other problems were just word or basic math related with a couple of general knowledge questions that every American should know interspersed throughout the test. i understand why our military is so effective though, we have a couple of highly intelligent individuals running a hierarchy of ants.

If you don't want to go into the military, DO AS BADLY AS POSSIBLE ON THE ASVAB.

Your prize for doing well is a bombardment of phone calls and mail for the succeeding two years.

We had the option of taking either the ASVAB or the PSAT. I did pretty well on the PSAT, so now I'm a National Merit Semifinalist. It's pretty neat, most colleges have some kind of scholarship just for getting that far. I find out in January if I'm a finalist, so that'll be nice.

Anyway, my dad was in the military for 20 years, he's pushing me to join the Air Force just for job security. I don't want to move that often though, it makes it harder to meet people.

Yeah my mom and dad wanted me to do ROTC and so I talked to my recruiter and lol he called me again over the summer.

Somebody signed me up for the ASVAB test and I found out about it on the day of.

It made me realize that I don't know shit about electrical engineering or auto mechanics. Hopefully that will be enough to spare me from a bunch of calls from recruiters?

i get a call at least once a week from the same person. it is so damn annoying, somehow he got a hold of my cell number so i had to suffer through 2 weeks of not accepting the calls until my carrier blocked the number for me.

I have never taken it, but supposedly it is EXTREMELY EASY...like:

What fuel does a typical CAR run on?

A) Milk
B) Water
C) Gasoline
D) Bleach

So yeah, from what a couple of my friends (actually the senior class took it when i was a senior - I was just *technically* a junior) have told me, it is too easy.

some of the questions were like that, or easy biology/algebra/word definition questions, but others were more like

"here's a diagram of a car part that no one knows about

what is it, out of these four choices that are also car parts that no one knows about"

Also there are quite a few schematic drawings in the electrical engineering part, and I forgot how to read schematic drawings totally.

Still, most of the test was extremely easy

forgive me for my lack of knowledge as nI've never herd of this test before.

So... when taking this test, if you do not wish to grow close with the military at all, you should score extremely low on it, otherwise the military will recognize you as prime US soldjer material, correct?

From what I've heard, if you take it in school, you're not going to get contacted. I haven't yet, even though I scored really well. I think you only get called if you talk to a recruiter about it. I don't know, though.

I love your keyboard. It makes you seem foreign - "soljer".
