I played for a while, both PvE and PvE, but I haven't played since around January (more because I got lost in schoolwork, found TF2, and don't feel like waiting for hours to reinstall GW after having reinstalled Windows on my computer than because it isn't a great game). If anyone else here still plays I might get back in again - once I'm in college I may be able to get a mic too.
I've really enjoyed it, although I think they went about making PvE difficult (esp. hard mode) in the wrong way - by sheer numbers and giving them the wrong bonuses. I personally hate the notion of tanking (and with that, being forced to have a tank) and think it really takes away from the game. Buffs like fast-casting and halved duration for conditions and hexes were IMO the wrong way to make things harder - all that does is take even more away from the usefulness of skillful shutdown. I think it would be much better if mobs were smaller but more balanced - obviously they need to be more powerful/numerous than the human's group though.
@LonelyNess: I agree with Upside about comparing GW and WoW. To be honest, I've been rather unimpressed with World of Warcraft (although I, too, probably haven't played enough to get a good idea of the full game). World of Warcraft probably has better PvE, although from what I played in the trial, I didn't find its PvE all that impressive. It has a very immersing lore and quests and what not, but the gameplay was rather dull. It's probably in large part due to my low level, but the fact that you have to spend so much time levelling up until you get to do anything fun is a real setback for me (especially coming from Guild Wars' level cap of 20, which I think is great). Although Guild Wars is far from perfect (it's still really good, especially for being pretty much the first game of its kind), their skill > time spent model is what makes me prefer GW over WoW. A few of my friends play WoW, and their discussions pretty much boiled down to their levels, their equipment, and how long they grinded and suffered to get their equipment. On the other hand, just about every GW discussion I've had is about strategy (my friend and I have discussed equipment, but it was purely for looks). My PvP experience hasn't been very competitive (mostly PuG or heroway HA - heroes are surprisingly more effective compared to the average HA PuG member; every time I've gotten to halls was with heroes :/), but even then there's a HUGE amount of strategy, teamwork, and coordination that goes into every PvP match. GW always has some imbalances, but I definitely got a whole lot more than what I paid for (and I have all 3 campaigns + expansion).
