Hydrapple is a threatening bulky breaker mostly used on balance teams to break opposing balance cores. Hydrapple leverages its respectable bulk and offensive capabilities to threaten balance staples such as Alomomola, Ting-Lu, and Garganacl. Earth Power is used as coverage to allow Hydrapple to nail targets such as Slowking-Galar, Gholdengo, and Kingambit that would otherwise switch in comfortably. Hydrapple also runs 12-speed Evs to outspeed Ting-lu to directly threaten it. On the defensive end, Hydrapple answers common threats to balances such as Ogerpon-Wellspring and Gliscor switching comfortably into their STABs. Hydrapple also checks other notable Pokemon like Landorus-Therian, Gliscor, Samurott-Hisui, and non-Ice Spinner Great Tusk. Tera Fairy can be used to Allow Hydrapple to gain immunity to opposing dragon moves, most notably Dragapult’s Draco Meteor. Tera Steel can be used to gain a useful toxic immunity and resistance to Fairy, Dragon, and Ice; Which can be useful versus Pokemon like Kyurem which possess Ice and Dragon STAB. Alternatively, Tera poison can also be used to still retain a toxic immunity but also resist fairy and fighting moves from Iron Valiant and Zamazenta.
Pokemon such as Great Tusk, Moltres, and Ting-lu appreciate Hydrapple as a teammate as it helps break through bulky waters such as Alomomola And Dondozo which all three struggle against. Hydrapple Struggles to deal with bulky flying types Like Corviknight. However, it can Muscle past Non-Brave Bird Variants and deny Roost with Earth Power. Hydrapple Can Struggle versus faster offensive Pokemon as well like Kyurem, Raging Bolt, and Darkrai. Hydrapple appreciates faster teammates that can threaten them, examples include Zamazenta, Iron Valiant, Dragapult, and Cinderace which threatens any variant of Corviknight with its Fire STAB. Additionally, Hydrapple appreciates ground types such as Ting-Lu, Great Tusk, and Gliscor. Each can Set hazards for it to wear down checks such as Blissey, Clodsire, and Slowking-Galar when it’s unboosted. The latter two possess Knock Off to remove their items.
