I've got a lot of experience in singles formats, albeit mainly natdex and RU looks like a good approachable metagame. Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): This enthusiast of pink salamanders has poked around in SS OU for a few years at this point and now wants to branch out into other tiers, especially GSC OU since it has been described as a tier with a fair amount of similarities with my home tier.

Torchic has accepted me as his apprentice on QQ (I can provide screenshots if need be), so I would like to be assigned to him if possible.

I've been around for a little over 8 years, and I've competed in team tours, seasonal tournaments, MWP, etc. I would consider myself a seasoned player in that tier specifically, but I'm interesting in learning others, so I come to LC. I've played a tiny bit of SM LC, and I enjoyed that.

This year, I began playing Little Cup in SV, ORAS, and SM. I have a decent understanding of the game, but I’m still not where I want to be. I’m looking to refine my game sense and improve my overall decision-making in Little Cup, especially when it comes to precise predictions, doubles, and more aggressive sequencing.

My tournament play I feel is very inconsistent overall and I struggle with game plans when playing as or against certain archetypes. I would like to improve on my theory, teambuilding and endgame.

Overall really excited and have been building stuff a good bit and got the ladder badge a few times in past days (today) but looking moreso on really learning everything.. so im losing games accepting defeat but need to expedite the process. I need to be fluent like Storm Zone! C0LD MF Snow.

I started out playing UU but have branched out to other tiers such as RU, NU and PU. In the most recent NUFL I went 1-4 including 0-4 in SV NU, which increased my interest in the tier. I feel like my play is too inconsistent to beat top players and I want to learn the NU meta as well as how to teambuild effectively.

Tell us a little about your experience in competitive Pokemon (min. 3 sentences): Recently retired from my sport and mons has filled that competitive void. I didn't get to play any of these gens when they were current gen, but I've found them really fun to learn from scratch, especially during the ORAS and SM ladder tours. I think I got as high as top 10 on the LT ladders but didn't qualify for either. Elsewhere, I've also racked up a couple of neat wins against some players I really respect (and would love to work with), including Baddy in Masters and Always! in SS OU. I haven't plateaued by any means, and am only improving as I get more reps in, but I think having a mentor would be invaluable not just to my gameplay, but also to how I can navigate this competitive space and make a real name for myself. I have yet to "main" a tier, playing every chance I get in all the fairy gens from OU to PU, but Masters was my favourite tour experience by far, and I'd love to go further than 4-3 (from a 1-2 start with 0 experience and sample teams LOL) in future iterations.

22nd Feb 2026 Update:
I have decided that it would be best for me to focus on a single gen, so I'm changing my signup from all 3 masters gens to just ORAS OU. I got off to a great start in the gen this year, but have since been in a real slump. This has, unfortunately, coincided with my first official team tour on Smogon, the Chinese Premier League. I have been grinding and reviewing all that, but it would be really nice to have a single mentor that I can go to for coaching and general advice.

I'm especially curious about formats with terastalization as it is a mechanic I haven't touched much since I used to main random battles and be top 500 or more there on an older account. I got introduced to pokémon showdown in like 2023 by YouTube, from mostly those scripted salt videos haha. Anyways from that year I started mostly playing natdex OU and recently Legend Z-A (quite a fun format). Recently I also peaked 1700, but to this day I still struggle with teambuilding and can't really use any other teams than ones I steal from others or from samples, also a quite bit with decision making when it comes to moves.

Welcome to Battling 101! If you're seeking a tutor for SV Monotype, you are in the right place. Please read all the rules carefully and fill out every part of the application.

RULES​

  • You must be able to access Discord, or whatever your tutor wants as the primary form of communication.
  • You must be willing to use Pokemon Showdown! even if you are being tutored in a cartridge format such as Battle Spot or VGC.
  • You, the tutee, should have at least 15 posts before signing up AND your account's age should be a minimum of at least 1 month old before signing up.
    • This is not a strict requirement meaning you may still be paired without satisfying it, so no matter what, DO NOT spam post elsewhere in the forum. That is an infractable offense and we do not encourage such behavior from potential Tutees.
  • You must have battled competitively for a decent amount in at least ONE of the Smogon tiers or Battle Spot / VGC to sign up. Playing 10 or so matches on the PS! ladder is not substantial enough, ~70 or so is more reasonable. This experience does not need to be for the format you sign-up for; this is just to weed out people who have never played competitively that can improve themselves simply by using resources already available to them without needing a tutor to hold their hand.
  • You, the tutee, are responsible for setting up times with your tutor. When you receive the Smogon notification informing you of the pairing, please take the initiative and post on their VM wall first. Continued scheduling and communication is key to a successful pairing!
  • Use the Tutee Talk forum to complain about your tutor (or praise them if they're doing a good job). These are no longer mandatory, but if your tutor is ridiculously inactive or is a complete jackass, COMPLAIN HERE. Nobody can see your tutee talk posts except for you and the Battling 101 Staff; everything is confidential.
  • Signups older than 4 months or 1 month since last login will be considered inactive. These will be moved to the Inactive Posts thread, and can be returned back to this thread by request.
  • Tutors can and will drop you if sessions go badly, and significant violations may result in a ban from B101. Be active, be enthusiastic, be respectful. Make the best of your time together!
