April Fools' Day Massacre (Peaked just short of 1400)

This is my first honest RMT, but I thought that since I did so well during April Fools day I'd share the team. I almost hit 1400 with this before the server returned to normal.

Thanks to the April Fool's day shenanigans Aldaron's Proposal was off and Dream World abilities were allowed in standard OU. Originally I had just intended to abuse Drizzle+Swift Swim, but when I found out I could use Shadow Tag Chandelure I couldn't help myself. Despite this, the team has really been designed around Toxicroak, who I still think is underrated.

Obviously this team is retired now, but I wouldn't mind some feedback anyway.

Politoed (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power [Electric]

You can't abuse Drizzle + Swift Swim without this guy. The set is pretty standard. Surf is the obligatory STAB. Ice Beam is mostly for Dragons and Breloom, but it hits some other grass pokemon as well. FOcus Blast is for Ferro thorn and HP [Electric] is for DD Gyara. If I see another weather inducer I will want to keep this guy alive for a while, but otherwise I play him somewhat haphazardly, trying to save Kingdra until the right moment.

Ferrothorn (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip
- Bulldoze
- Stealth Rock

Choice Band Ferrothorn is way more powerful than I expected, and it's a big surprise to almost everyone. More often than not I lead with Ferrothorn because getting Stealth Rocks up is important (especially if I see Dragonite) and I can catch an unsuspecting Politoed or Tyranitar for the knockout with power whip. His biggest roll on this team however is to stop opposing Kingdra and Latios not packing HP fire. He also does a fine job of walling a large variety of other threats despite less than normal defensive investment.

Chandelure (F) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Shadow Tag
EVs: 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Overheat
- Energy Ball
- Shadow Ball
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Ah, before I found this guy my team was floundering around, struggling to deal with Scizor, Skarmory, and Gliscor. He can come in on everything Scizor and Skarmory have to offer and destroy them with Overheat. He can revenge Gliscor late game or come in on a well predicted switch and destory it with HP [Ice]. HP [Ice] also helps with Dragonite who gives this team a lot of trouble. Shadow Ball KOs Latios after stealth rocks and I'm often willing to sack Chandelure just to heavily Latios even if I can't get the KO. It's important to deal with Tyranitar first if I need Chandelure to deal with more than one threat, but such occasions are rare and I have other reasons to deal with Tyranitar. Energy Ball is for coverage and I can also survive an unboosted Gastrodon Earth Power and KO in return.

Kingdra (M) @ Choice Specs
Trait: Swift Swim
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Hydro Pump
- Dragon Pulse
- Surf

A lot of people expect Dragon Dance and almost no one caught on to Drizzle Swim until late in the day so the surprise factor on this thing was really good. For those who did catch on, just seeing Kingdra forced them to play differently. They would go the extra mile to preserve their Kingdra counters, often opening themselves up to a sweep by Scizor or Toxicroak. Rain Boosted Hydro Pumps are incredibly powerful. It is my attack of Choice whenever a miss won't be the death of me, otherwise I always go with surf. Dragon Pulse is for taking out dragons obviously, and Draco Meteor is for those times I've absolutely got to have a knock out on something that resist water.

Toxicroak (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Bulk Up
- Sucker Punch
- Drain Punch
- Earthquake

Now hear is the real star of this team. He has great synergy with Chandelure and gets a lot of opportunities to set up against all types of teams. Earthquake is for killing Tentacruel first and foremost, but it has its other uses. And after one bulk up this guy has incredible power and durability. I don't know how many times one bulk has saved me from what otherwise certainly would have been a OHKO (Screw you Terrakion packing EQ!). Most matches consisted of getting a bulk up or two and proceeding to sweep with this guy.

212.png

Scizor (M) @ Choice Band
Trait: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- U-turn
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Superpower

This guy is as standard as it gets. U-Turn is for scouting and Reuniclus and Celebi, Big Bite is for bulky waters, Superpower is for Ferrothorn and opposing Scizor, and Bullet Punch is for late game clean-up, Tyranitar, etc. etc.

Overall, i thought that this team did very and I was really impressed with the power of Both Choice Band Ferrothorn and Bulk UP Toxicroak. April Fool's Day was a lot of fun, but I'm excited to get back to playing NU.

Ya being locked into stealth rocks is awful, but I absolutely had to have them since Dragonite is immune to Spikes and I typically get them up right qaway and switch out anyway so it wasn't ever a big problem.
