ARandomRMT [Bulky Offense]

OK, so after several failed teams on the offensive spectrum, this one actually doesn't lose all that much. Changes are in bold. Without further ado, here it is:

The Team
260.png

Swampert@Leftovers
Relaxed, Torrent
240 HP, 200 Def, 68 SpA
-SR
-Earthquake
-Ice Beam
-Roar
I’ve been trying out other leads for a while. Azelf and Hippowdon are my main leads, and which one I use depends on which type of style the team is geared towards. However, because I did not want sandstorm and Azelf was obviously fragile, Swampert came to mind as a limited use check/counter for stuff like Heatran, Salamence, and Gyarados.
The moveset is obvious. SR for entry hazards, Earthquake for STAB and coverage, and Ice Beam to hit Salamence. Roar for phasing. I’ve changed the EVs for Special Attack around from the analysis, except in the opposite direction I did before. 68 SpA investment OHKOs Gliscor w/o SR on average, which means that he can’t just Roost stall me.

Roserade@Leftovers
Timid, Natural Cure
4 Def, 252 Spe, 252 SpA
-Toxic Spikes
-Sleep Powder
-HP Ground
-Leaf Storm
One of my new favorite pokemon to use. Roserade has pretty decent special defense as well as a devastatingly powerful Leaf Storm and Toxic Spikes, which mean that the threat of bulky waters minus Gyarados is greatly mitigated. Toxic spikes also help break down things like Kingdra and Tyrannitar. Sleep Powder for obvious reasons. The EVs give me max speed and 301 HP, with the rest is special attack. Natural Cure also makes Roserade a solid status absorber, along with Starmie. HP Ground is here to OHKO Heatran switchins after SR. The 252 SpA is needed to guarantee that specific KO.

Rotom-A@Leftovers
Timid, Levitate
252 HP, 168 Def, 88 Spe
-Overheat
-Thunderbolt
-Shadow Ball
-Will-O-Wisp
My spin blocker and switch-in to the likes of LeadGross, Lucario, Gyarados, etc. Since I have two forms of entry hazards in this team, the spin blocking is useful. The EVs are standard from the analysis. Most people know what Rotom-A is used for – overheating Scizor, burning Ttar, etc. The concern I have for Rotom is that his only recovery comes from Leftovers and the occasional Leech Seed recovery. However, the Resttalker doesn’t appeal to me since I would rather have more than 2 slots open, and I already have status absorbers.
453.png

Lucario@Life Orb
Adamant, Inner Focus
252 Atk, 252 Spe, 4 SpD
-SD
-CC
-Crunch
-Extremespeed
You all know him, you all hate him/love him. Lucario is my preferred stallbreaker, since Lucario gave me the most trouble when I was using a stall team. The moveset is obvious, Crunch is preferred over Stone Edge or Ice Punch for Rotom, although Timid Rotom still outspeeds me. Not much to say.
490.png

Heatran@Leftovers
Modest, Flash Fire
4 Def, 252 Spe, 252 SpA
-Substitute
-Flamethower
-Earth Power
-Dragon Pulse
Heatran comes in with his massive resistance pool and giant raw power. I greatly prefer SubHeatran over ScarfTran for eased prediction. Dragon Pulse is used over options like Toxic, HP Ice/Grass, and Explosion because Salamence, Latias, and Flygon don’t die quickly enough from Toxic, Explosion makes me lose my Heatran, and the Hidden Powers are rather weak. Dragon Pulse scores great neutral coverage/SE coverage, since steel types are already taken care of. Modest is chosen over Timid for the extra power, and so I can skip the mindgames from Tran vs Tran.

121.png

Starmie@Leftovers
Timid, Natural Cure
160 HP, 132 SpA, 216 Spe
-Surf
-Thunderbolt
-Recover
-Rapid Spin
My spinner and other status absorber. Starmie can hit incoming Rotoms decently hard without being trapped by Magnezone (but is weak to Ttar). Starmie also sports its own recovery, which is great. The speed lets me outspeed Gengar and the like, the HP reaches 301 (just like Roserade), and the rest is put into special attack. Thunderbolt is chosen over Ice Beam to hit other Starmie and Gyarados.

Final Words

Some IVs: Roserade, Rotom, and Starmie have 0 Atk IV because they don’t use hidden power and they take marginally less from confusion. Heatran has a 2 Atk IV for the same reason, but a 0 Atk IV is illegal. Lucario has a 29 HP IV to lessen LO recoil.

The threats I have had difficulties with are:
Gengar, because either Starmie or Rotom must take a hit to take him out, while Gengar resists my only priority.
CM Latias who has too many calm minds: My team is heavily based on the special spectrum, mainly because they take out Lucario’s checks and counters better. As such, if Lucario doesn’t get a swords dance in, my team could get an early demise.
Earthquake in general, because I only have 1 immunity vs 1 x2 and 1 x4.
Testing Scizor to remedy the Gengar and Latias weakness. Either Lucario or Heatran is going, which means my ground weakness is slightly smaller.

That’s my team, rate and hate away!

The team looks pretty decent from a glance, but one thing I noticed is that there is no synergy but you could work around making Lucario's sweep better, since I do see a bit of synergy here. Starmie might want to consider an EV spread of 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe with Life orb and Hydro Pump over Surf. This allows Starmie to lure in rotom who like to block Rapid Spin and can deal maximum of 98.34% on 0 hp / 0 SpD Rotom, having 66% chance of OHKO with Stealth Rock down. This helps Lucario greatly, as it makes its job easier when sweeping.

To patch up this nasty weakness to Lucario and Gyarados; Lucario threatening heatran and Gyarados making an easy switch-in to Heatran and grab a free SD and DD respectively. I think Scarf Rotom could patch this up. Sure you check Adamant Lucario, but what Jolly versions can be a bit troublesome.

Rotom-H
@ Choice Scarf
Timid nature (Spe+ / Atk-)
232 Hp / 20 spA / 252 Spe

- Thunderbolt
- Overheat
- Trick
- Shadow Ball

Rotom is great when checking SD Lucario and Taunt Gyrados, even offensive Gyarados. Timid + Scarf outpaces Gyarados and can OHKO with Thunderbolt even with minimum investment into Special Attack. Overheat will OHKO Lucario and Scizor, but its mainly for scaring them out. Shadow Ball + 20 SpA EVs 2HKO Latias. Trick manages with Blissey, limited its options and basically helping Lucario come in on a Tricked Wish or Toxic, and can get it a free SD.

Since Rotom attracts Heatran, Heatran will be making an appearance to grab the fire Flast boost, your own heatran can come in and take the predicted Fire blast. With Modest, it has the potential to get outpaces and Heatran with a boost is going to be annoying. Patch this up with a Timid nature and Fire Blast over Flamethrower for more firepower. This way you can outpace / speed tie with opposing Heatran and OHKO with Earth Power.

As for Swampert 252 / 252 Def / 6 SpA is the best EV spread to make the best out of phazing and shuffling the opponents team. It also checks salamence to a good extent - whom otherwise trouble you pretty badly, but who isn't nowadays.

As for other options - Ice Beam over rapid SPin on Starmie can work great for limited Salamence's chances of getting one DD. Spin is not required as no one on your team suffers from SR too much and only Swampert is affected by Toxic Spikes. Roserade absorbs Toxix Spikes as well. If Spikes is no problem for you, then go for ice beam, otherwise go for Rapid Spin if Spikes has been a huge problem for you. overall gl.

@ franky thanks for the rate. Some comments:

Starmie is only here as my preferred spinner. I agree that hazards don't affect my team too much (besides the fact that my team gets destroyed by spikes), then something else should probably go here to cover my weaknesses. I'm thinking ScarfLatias (Draco Meteor, Surf, Tbolt, Trick) atm, to add a water and ground resist, which I'm currently a bit short on.

Roserade probably makes a better lead than Swampert; you could just swap their positions. Although Leech Seed isn't that good on Roserade, I feel, it's just too frail. HP Fire/Ground is probably more useful.

Arg, Franky beat me to CS Rotom. It really would help, though, as it allows you to counter Jolly Lucario and DD Gyara, who are otherwise massive trouble. Another thing I might add is to swap swampert and roserade. Swampert is easily usable at any point in the game, and Roserade struggles to be too bulky and works well as a lead. I suggest this set:

Roserade
Focus Sash
Natural Cure
Timid

Sleep Powder
Toxic Spikes
Sludge Bomb/Hidden Power Ground
Leaf Storm/Grass Knot

It can set up on many common leads thanks to sleep powder. I know I'll take some flak for reccomending Sludge Bomb over HP Ground, but it gives you a more consistent way to hit Azelf without nerfing your SA unnecisarily, and you really aren't hurting Metagross with it anyway. You're faster than the things you'll be hitting with HP, meaning you can sleep them anyway.

P.S. I ran in to you on shoddy a while back. I knew you had a Giritina avy!

@SwampertSooner I remember that battle! XD That was a while back.

Right now, I'm running HP Ground to beat Heatran who think they can come in (Max special attack is needed with timid to guarantee the OHKO after SR), so he's not bulky anymore anyways.
Right now I'm going to test SDScizor over Lucario, so I'm definitely going to give the CSRotom a try, considering taking out Lucario adds to my weakness to stall, and CSRotom *somewhat* remedies it.
