Seed Sower is common on Arboliva, but this set has worked very well thus far.
Arboliva @ Throat Spray
Ability: Seed Sower
Level: 50
Tera Type: Ground
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 76 SpA / 4 SpD / 4 Spe
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Hyper Voice
- Protect / Strength Sap
- Earth Power
- Giga Drain
Firstly, Hyper Voice is a great option to not only use the stab modifier (Arboliva gets stab from Normal and Grass), but also to utilize the Throat Spray it holds. Once Arboliva gains the +1 SpA, it becomes a huge threat.
Next, Protect is a nice all around option to have on most Pokémon, but Arboliva utilizes it very well. With common weaknesses to fire, flying and fighting as well as bug and ice, Arboliva doesn't want to take too many hits, even with it's decent defensive stats.
The next move ran is Earth Power. This is great coverage against the all so common Ceruledge and Armaruge and other fire threats as well as the ice threats like Cetitan and Abomasnow. And if Arboliva terastilizes, it gains a stab bonus to this move as well as a defensive switch in typing so as to midigate its many weaknesses. Overall, a great move to run.
Lastly is Giga Drain. Giga Drain is a great move for dealing damage and a semi-reliable recovery option. While Strength Sap may be great in cases against Garchomp or Azumaril, when fighting a Special Attacker or defensive mon, it becomes a worser option of recovery. That's where Giga Drain comes in. Based upon the damage you deal to your opponent, you gain 50% of the damage you did in HP.
While Arboliva may be a very powerful Pokémon on its own, Arboliva loves support Pokémon such as Farigiraf, and aiding Pokémon like Meowscarada. This mon is most often viable in Trick Room, but it can be used outside of it under rare circumstances. (ie: You have tailwind and the opponent doesn't.)
