Gen 1 Arcanine (UU) [QC 2/2] [GP 1/1]

[OVERVIEW]

Arcanine may be known as the Legendary Pokemon in-game, but in reality, it is largely underwhelming due to its defensively abysmal Fire typing. RBY UU is chock full of bulky Water-types like Omastar and Vaporeon that can switch in and easily suppress Fire-type Pokemon. Tentacruel gets a special mention for being able to outspeed these Fire-types and either deal considerable damage with Surf, or predict a switch and pivot with Wrap. Even among Fire-types, however, it’s tough to justify using Arcanine over Moltres due to its inferior Special and Attack stats. Because of these flaws, Arcanine is not recommended for use on competitive RBY UU teams, and thus rarely sees play.

In spite of all of this, Arcanine does have a niche in the UU metagame. Its 95 base Speed and access to Agility lets Arcanine outpace most other Agility users, like Articuno and Dragonite, and it possesses a strong Body Slam to deter switch-ins. This sounds a lot like a weaker Dodrio at first, but what sets Arcanine apart is a powerful STAB Fire Blast and its 30% burn rate, not only threatening the likes of Kangaskhan and Persian, but also letting it deal considerable mixed damage.

[SET]
name: Agility Sweeper
move 1: Agility
move 2: Body Slam
move 3: Hyper Beam
move 4: Fire Blast

Agility is a great boon to Arcanine due its removal of paralysis’s Speed debuff on top of providing a boost that lets it outpace even a boosted Articuno. The set’s idea is to set up an Agility and then take advantage of Arcanine’s impressive mixed attack power while potentially spreading status along the way. Body Slam threatens to paralyze non-Normal-types that would switch in on it and, along with Hyper Beam, makes use of Arcanine’s impressive base 110 Attack. These two moves make a nice one-two punch; if Dugtrio or Kadabra switched in on a Body Slam, then Hyper Beam can dispose of them on the following turn and, therefore, not require a recharge turn. Rounding out the set is STAB Fire Blast, which hits like a truck and has a relatively high chance of burning the opponent on hit, which can totally ruin an opposing Tentacruel, Dugtrio, or Kangaskhan. Although a situational option at best, Toxic is an alternative move option that specifically takes aim at Agility + Wrap Dragonite, causing it to take more damage than it deals with Wrap.

Arcanine is best mid- or late-game when it can outrun and thus sweep teams, but absolutely requires a team that can scout out and remove Water-types; examples of potential teammates include Venusaur and Electabuzz. Switching Arcanine in as a Pokemon like Hypno uses Rest is a great way to get a free Agility off. Overall, though, it is a very difficult Pokemon to use, and is just not very good in general.

Banned deucer.
This is pretty good, mostly minor nitpicks and clarity enhancements.

Overview
Being a bulky Fire-type means the vast majority of the RBY metagame, such as Gyarados, Vaporeon or Omastar, can switch in and easily suppress their threat.
Can use with a touch of rewording;
can switch in and easily suppress it.
Fewer words and gets the message across.

it’s tough to justify Arcanine’s use in the UnderUsed tier
"the UnderUsed tier" -> "RBY UU". Same thing; fewer words, gets the message across. I believe this is also a spelling/grammar standard thing.

Because of these flaws, Arcanine is not recommended for use on competitive RBY teams, and thus rarely sees play, even in UU.
This is a UU analysis, so you should just say "competitive RBY UU teams" and cut the last part. Other tiers are largely irrelevant here.

Set Details
then Hyper Beam can dispose of them on the following turn.
May as well note you'll skip the charge turn doing this. Not a massive addition to regulars, but we may as well appeal to the newbies.

Rounding out the set is Fire Blast, which hits like a truck and has a relatively high chance of burning the opponent on hit, which can totally ruin an opposing Tentacruel, Dugtrio or Kangaskhan.
Maybe "STAB" Fire Blast. Minor nitpick.

Toxic is an alternative to Agility that specifically takes aim at AgiliWrap Dragonite, causing the latter to take more damage than it deals.
Change to "Agility + Wrap".

Arcanine in UU is best in the mid- to late-game when it can outrun and thus sweep teams, but absolutely requires a team that can scout out and remove Water-types.
No need to say "in UU" in an RBY UU analysis. In terms of what Pokemon is scouting and removing Water-types, you'll need to cite some examples. Venusaur and Electabuzz come to mind, though how this works in the context of UU teambuilding is another story. Arcanine really sucks...

Maybe you can get lucky and switch it in on a Resting Pokemon to get a free Agility off.
Switching in on an opposing Pokemon when it's using a recovery move is an RBY fundamental. Hell, it applies in any generation really. I wouldn't say it requires luck at all because of this, it's actually quite predictable. For instance, Hypno will Rest when ~2/3 of its HP has been dropped. Overall, you should say something like "Switching in Arcanine as a Pokemon like Hypno uses Rest is a great way to get an Agility off.". Never skip out on learning this skill, it single-handedly wins games in RBY and separates the good from the best.

Implement this for a QC 1/2.

I'd make this say that you're talking about the RBY UU metagame specifically, and that UU is heavy on Water-types, making Arcanine difficult to use. I'd especially include Tentacruel here as an example though, as Tent outspeeds Arcanine, and can do heavy damage with Surf or predict a switch and pivot with Wrap.

while possessing a strong Body Slam to deny switch-ins.
Since Body Slam doesn't actually deny switch-ins (like Mean Look or something) I would reword this. Maybe "deter switch-ins" if that's what you were going for, or mention the chance that Body Slam can paralyze non-Normal types on the switch. You also use this same phrasing once in the set comments, so I'd change it there as well.

name: Agility Sweeper
move 1: Fire Blast
move 2: Body Slam
move 3: Hyper Beam
move 4: Agility / Toxic
I'd reorder these moves to be in the order that you actually talk about them in the subsequent paragraph, so have move 1 be Agility, move 2 Body Slam, move 3 Hyper Beam, move 4 Fire Blast.

Also since you say the point of the set is to set up Agility and then sweep, and name it "Agility Sweeper," I'm getting a kind of dissonance when I see Toxic slashed with Agility on the main set. Considering that Toxic only gets one sentence of mention as an "alternative option" I think I would keep that sentence the way it's written but take Toxic off the main set. You get what I'm saying?
