Arceus Ground [QC: 2/3] rdy for 3rd

Overview
########

Ground Arceus gained new niches during the generation shift. Ground types suddenly found themselves as a premier typing in the metagame. This gives Ground Arceus a powerful role on all team archetypes. With excellent bulk, attack, and support options, Ground Arceus can be fit into many teams. The most important role for Ground Arceus is to absorb Bolt Strikes from Zekrom. Ground Arceus also can be a powerful sweeper that shoots off +2 STAB Earthquakes from 120 speed base.

However, it suffers from the presence of Water and Grass types. Pokemon such as Scarf Kyogre outspeeds and OHKOs Ground Arceus with ease. One must ensure that Ground Arceus is supported with water and grass resists. However, on a sticky web team you can simply outspeed and OHKO water types.

Swords Dance
########
name: Swords Dance
move 1: Swords Dance
move 2: Earthquake
move 3: Stone Edge
move 4: Recover / Extreme Speed
item: Earth Plate
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Attack / 252 Speed / 4 Defense

Moves
========
Earthquake is an incredibly powerful move. With Swords Dance boost, Earthquake OHKOs virtually all non-levitating pokemon in metagame except support Arceus. Stone Edge nails the levitating pokemon, such as Ho-Oh, Yveltal, and Lugia for super effective damage. Recover can be used for longevity and increasing its defensive capability. However, Extreme Speed is useful to finish off scarved pokemon that attempts to revenge kill you. Ice Beam should be only used on a sticky web team to hit Landorus-T, Gliscor, and Shaymin-S super effectively.

Set Details
========
Maximum speed and attack allows Ground Arceus to outpace and hits with maximum power for most of metagame. Since Ground Arceus has an excellent typing and bulk, HP investment is unnecessary for setting it up. However, if Ground Arceus is used on a sticky web team, an alternative spread with Adamant nature, 44 HP, 252 Attack, and 212 Speed can be used. 212 Speed allows it to outspeed base 100, notably Charizard Y which is immune to sticky web and hits hard with Fire Blast. The adamant spread is stronger, however sticky web is crucial for its success.

Usage Tips
========
Sword Dances Ground Arceus functions the best as a late game sweeper, when the speedy threats are removed. Burn is threatening for Ground Arceus, so be mindful about setting up on potential pokemon that can learn Will-o-Wisp. The speedy water and grass types will quickly switch in to prevent you from setting up, so be sure to deal with them accordingly. Despite of its weakness, it has an excellent immunity of electric. So, Ground Arceus can liberally switch into Zekrom’s Bolt Strike or Volt Switch, and grab the momentum.

Team Options
========
It is mandatory to have good Scarf Kyogre checks on a team with Ground Arceus. Since, Scarf Kyogre can easily revenge kill Arceus Ground with Surf. Scarf Zekrom, Palkia, and specially defensive Dialga are excellent for this role. Yveltal and Xerneas are also, excellent teammates for removing Giratina-O and pressuring support Arceus. Gothitelle, Wobbuffet, and Mega Gengar are all good trappers that can aid Ground Arceus with removing key threats such as support Arceus and creating conditions where Ground Arceus can freely set up. A burn absorber or Aromatherapy support is recommend to ensure that Ground Arceus is free from burn. Blissey and defensive Xerneas excel at this supporting role, and Blissey helps with support Arceus weakness that Arceus Ground has. Generally, Xerneas and Ground Arceus probably will be paired together, because they create a dual immunity against Zekrom. Specs Kyogre is a nice offensive partner, since it lures in and wear down many of Ground Arceus’ checks, such as Giratina-A. In return, Ground Arceus absorbs the Bolt Strikes for Kyogre.

Other Options
########
Calm Mind set with Judgment, Ice Beam, Recover, and Calm Mind can be used, however it’s vastly inferior to Swords Dance set in this generation. There is no serious reason to ever run this set, unless you’re Furai. A support set of Earthquake, Stone Edge, Recover, and Will-o-Wisp, Toxic, Defog, or Stealth Rock can be used to surprise the checks and support the team. This set is also, one of the best Zekrom check in the metagame. Specially defensive support set can run roar to phaze Geomancy Xerneas. Dragon Claw can be used over Recover or Extreme Speed on Sword Dance set to pick off Giratina-O. Magic Coat can be used to troll Deoxys lead and status aimed toward it. Gravity can be used to remove the ground immunity and bypasses some of its checks.

Checks & Counters
########
**Waters**: Kyogre and Water Arceus can easily revenge kill with powerful water attacks. Defensive Kyogre can phaze Ground Arceus. Water Arceus can burn Ground Arceus.

**Flying Grounds**: Landorus-T and Gliscor can toxic and stalls Ground Arceus to death. However, they have to watch out for the rare Ice Beam from Ground Arceus.

**Giratina-O and Giratina**: Laughs at whatever Ground Arceus tries to do and threatens with Will-o-Wisp, Toxic, or phazes.

**Bronzong**: Virtually untouched by any of Ground Arceus’ attack and threatens with Toxic.

**Multiscale Lugia**: Lugia can stalls the Stone Edge PP with roost, and then phaze or toxic stall it.

**Support Arceus**: They frequently run maximum speed and will Will-o-Wisp if they win speed tie. Then, they simply recover spam until Ground Arceus faints.

item: Earth Plate
nature: Jolly
evs: 252 Attack / 252 Speed / 4 Defense

Team Options
========

  • It appreciates good Scarf Kyogre checks, such as Assault Vest Palkia.
  • Yveltal is an excellent partner to cover special attack spectrum and removing Giratina, Giratina-O, and Arceus Ghost.
  • A Will-o-Wisp absorber is recommended to prevent crippling Arceus Ground, so fire types or ResTalk users are excellent partners.
  • Specs Kyogre can lure out Arceus Ground's checks and wear them down for Arceus Ground. While, Arceus Ground absorbs Thunders for Kyogre and checks Dialga excellently.

Support
########
name: Support
move 1: Earthquake / Judgment
move 2: Stone Edge / Ice Beam
move 3: Recover
move 4: Will-o-Wisp / Toxic / Defog
ability: Multitype
item: Earth Plate
nature: Jolly / Timid
evs: 248 HP / 252 Spe / 8 Def

Moves
========

  • Only use Judgment if it is using Ice Beam.
  • Stone Edge is to hit Ho-Oh and any other levitating pokemon.
  • Ice Beam is used to defeat Garchomp, Shaymin-S, Gliscor, Groudon, and Giratina-O.
  • Defog clears hazards, which provides invaluable support for your team.
  • Recover replenishes your HP.
  • Will-o-Wisp is used to cripple physical attacker and chip damage special attackers.
  • Toxic is useful to defeat pokemon that attempts to set up on it, such as Ho-Oh, Arceus Grass, and Arceus Water.

Set Details
========

  • Maximum bulk and speed is required to speed tie with opposing Arceus and maintain survival.
  • Only use Timid if it is utilizing Judgment instead of Earthquake.

Usage Tips
========

  • This set is Zekrom's only true counter.
  • It provides utility and spreads burn.
  • Judgment on it allows it to beat Arceus Rock with Will-o-Wisp.
  • Pair it with Xerneas to ensure complete immunity to Zekrom's attacks.
  • Kyogre check is mandatory to ensure that it is able to support the team.

Team Options
========

  • With Defog support, Stealth Rock-weak pokemons are excellent partners.
  • Pokemon that are Zekrom and Arceus Rock weak appreciate it's presence, such as Ho-Oh and Kyogre.
  • Yveltal is an excellent teammate to obliterate opposing ghosts.

Other Options
########

  • Calm Mind set with Judgment, Ice Beam, Recover, and Calm Mind can be used, however it is vastly inferior to Sword Dance set.
  • Perish Song fitted to pseudophaze and threaten last pokemon sweep.
  • Roar can be used with specially defensive spread to reliably phaze Geomancy Xerneas. Such spread should be 248 HP / 48 SpD / 212 Spe with Calm or Bold nature.
  • On Sword Dance set, it can use Extreme Speed or Dragon claw instead of Recover.
  • Extreme Speed is used to pick off weakened pokemon.
  • Dragon claw is Arceus Ground's strongest option to defeat Giratina-O.
  • Stealth Rock can be used over Defog on Support set.
  • Toxic is an option over Will-o-Wisp to prevent Arceus Water, Arceus Grass, Giratina-o, and Lugia setting up on it.
  • Magic Coat can be used to troll Shaymin-S and other status aimed toward it.

Checks & Counters
########

  • Arceus Water and Arceus Grass threaten it with STAB Judgment, Will-o-Wisp, and Toxic.
  • Kyogre can easily revenge kill Arceus Ground.
  • Giratina-O and Giratina takes pitiful damage from it and threaten with WoW, Toxic, or phazes it out.
  • Multiscale Lugia can stall SD Arceus Ground's Stone Edge, and then threaten with Toxic.
  • Skarmory can survive any hits from Arceus Ground and phazes it away.
  • Gliscor can PP stall Stone Edges and toxic stall it.
  • Landorus-T can intimidate spam and Toxic Arceus Ground.
  • Bronzong is barely scratched by Arceus Ground's attacks and Toxic stalls Arceus Ground.

Arceus-Ground doesn't really counter Zekrom, pretty sure it's 2hkod by Adamant Outrage after SR. Also, it's crippled by Band Zekrom. I don't think Refresh is worth a mention in OO...you'll just get phased (by Giratinas) or killed (by support Arceus) since you can't run Refresh and Recover.

I also think Toxic should be mentioned along with WoW in the support set.

also AV Palkia is silly

i Think the standard cm arceus is also worth a mention

I don't think the standard CM from last should be a set this generation. You are unable to pressure Lugia and Ho-oh, both very common and you can't really sidestep the scarf Kyogre probems either. In a defog metagame you must be very wary of using a Calm Mind Arceus, and this one is simply very weak to the general metagame itself. On a related note, I'd drop CM+Gravity in OO. It flips the tables on Skarmory and Ho-oh especially, and you have pretty decent bulk to support your team with Gravity itself.

Also Donkey, it doesn't counter but it probably is the best check since it's unexpected from team preview most of the time and you can usually snag a free switch in on an Electric move. It's probably the best check to Zekrom still.

I am not adding cm groundceus as a set.

Donkey Added Toxic slash and removed Refresh mention.
Hack He Must Gravity CM seems like a major gimmick. Got any replays showing it working? I know that it's in OO, but it seems like very gimmicky, even for OO lol.

You don't have to explain 252/252 spreads because the implications of that are obvious. Nature comments are good, though, maybe mention which 2HKOs and OHKOs that Adamant gets but Jolly does not?
{maybe also mention Ice Beam beating Rayquaza on the support set? seems important enough to mention}

Sets are fine, I just need to get a hold on this new format though before I talk about the details and stamp it. I'm not ignoring, this though. I've got Christmas break to get up to speed.

Also, lol at furai hiding his shame

Mention Xerneas as a partner for Support Ground Arceus since it can work with Ground Arc to annoy Zekrom (CB Outrage is the only move that actually threatens Groundceus, Xern resists it, also you can play a mindgame with Zekrom then :P).

Add Roar in OO as well, it phazes quicker then Perish Song and is funny to use if something like a Xerneas tries to setup infront of you.

Mention Ogre checks in support set as well.

There's really not much more IMO that needs to be said this analysis is fine IMO. You've done a fine job so after you implement the above stuff...

QC: 1/3

Good job.

Stone Edge is used to nail Ho-Oh.
I know just skele but want to make sure you know to mention more than just that lol.

With Recover, groundy isn't just a late-game sweeper. It can use that typing to serve as a defensive check to certain mons. (worth mentioning, imo)

You don't need to explain max/max spreads in analyses. Also, for defensive groundy, talk about slower but bulkier spreads.

btw, set details is basically the old ac. So you can move all those moves you mention in oo to their respective set details sets (and add roar where you put perish song). Just leave the CM set in OO.

Checks and Counters will have to wait along with the stamp.

Swords Dance:

Mention Yveltal and Lugia as Stone Edge targets in the "moves" section please. Also, for the Adamant EV spread, make sure Ground Arceus can outrun Palkia (which requires 212 Speed EV's). Max out attack and dump the rest in HP. Adamant isn't as good this generation because max speed Will-O-Wisp Support Arceus are more common now and you are guaranteed to get outsped by them without a Jolly nature.

"A Will-o-Wisp absorber is recommended to ensure the sweep of Arceus Ground." <-- Rewrite this, pairing a status absorber with Ground Arceus does not ensure a sweep!

Mentions Specs Kyogre as a nice partner, as it can lure in and wear out many of Ground Arceus's checks, such as Giratina-A. In return, Ground Arceus can absorb Bolt Strikes.

Support:

Couldn't find anything wrong.

Other Options:

Magic Coat is trolly on the support set and can annoy Deoxys-S and Lugia. It's not a great option but definitely deserves a mention in OO.

Mention that you need to run a Specially Defensive set if you want to reliably phaze a +2 Xerneas with Roar, though retaining some speed increases the chance of Ground Arceus using Recover on the turn after you eat a +2 Moonblast.

+2 252+ SpA Fairy Aura Xerneas Moonblast vs. 248 HP / 0 SpD Arceus-Ground: 391-462 (88.2 - 104.2%) -- 62.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

+2 252+ SpA Fairy Aura Xerneas Moonblast vs. 248 HP / 48+ SpD Arceus-Ground: 343-405 (77.4 - 91.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Checks & Counters:

I don't agree with Yveltal as an Arceus-Ground check, at least to the Swords Dance set. Even the Physically Defensive set despises +2 Stone Edges:

+2 252 Atk Arceus-Ground Stone Edge vs. 248 HP / 252+ Def Yveltal: 306-362 (67.2 - 79.5%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO after Stealth Rock

Naturally, offensive Yveltal will fare much worse. Also mention that Kyogre doesn't like switching into Earthquakes much, though Scarf Kyogre can take an unboosted one and kill back in an emergency. It would much rather simply revenge Ground Arceus rather than have to stomach an Earthquake though.

Mention Skarmory and Gliscor as checks to the Swords Dance set, as Skarmory easily phazes it and Gliscor can eat a couple of +2 Stone Edges and Toxic/Protect stall.

Good job, you should be ready to write this up.

QC: 2/3

I think Extremespeed deserves a mention on the SD set. With it you can anti-lead suicide leads and bypass the a common check (scarf Kyogre).

I think Extremespeed deserves a mention on the SD set. With it you can anti-lead suicide leads and bypass the a common check (scarf Kyogre).
Yeah, I already told him to move those things out of OO. He's just a tad behind.

I don't agree with Yveltal as an Arceus-Ground check, at least to the Swords Dance set. Even the Physically Defensive set despises +2 Stone Edges:
Scarf Yveltal OHKOs boosted SD Ground with Foul Play :D (the other ones just die though)

Ew @ espeed being first slash, I really wouldn't even bother slashing it, just a moves mention of it should suffice. Also, update some of the teammates sections very early meta like.

You get the third check after writing it up but quick mentions:

Make ESpeed second slash on SD set (I still think it makes a fine slash since it works decently on HO teams which Arceus-Ground is pretty good on since it checks Scarf Zekrom and trolls Prankster TWave). Also in set details you can mention running max HP/Speed, you get less power but more bulk which = not as easy to RK. It lets you set up very easily on Lando-T without Toxic who could otherwise try to go for Intimidate stacking.

Mention Web support for SD IMO. SD Arceus-Ground works really well on Sticky Web teams since it provides a Zekrom check, a counter to Prankster Thunder Wave, and Web slows down would-be revenge killers such as Mewtwo and Scarf Kyogre. It is advised to save it as a cleaner if the enemy has Skarmory/Tina-O however since it gives them a free switch to use Defog.

Add Shaymin-S as a check, its immune to EQ and outspeeds/OHKOes Arceus-Ground with Seed Flare.

Add Fairies as teammates for the support set since they check Palkia and can heal off status (Xern/Sylveon).

Mention Scarf Yveltal as a check for SD Ground since it can outspeed and slay it with Foul Play after a boost.

  • Magic Coat can be used to troll Shaymin-S and other status aimed toward it.

Wait how does Magic Coat help against Shaymin-S? Magic Coat doesn't stop Seed Flare.

Ok just wrote this up. I also revamped some of stuff using my judgment. hopefully that it's ok and qc will agree with these changes lol. sorry for procrastinating this so much n_N. support set is removed after a discussion with qc.

Talk about what you can do with Groundy, mid-game.

Mention in teammates something that can help with the Ground/flyers (like stuff that pressures them or whatever, etc.).

Rename the bullets on your CC section. Make it like Water-types, Ground- / Flying-types (iirc it was that..), Giratina (instead of both formes), Lugia (you don't need to mention Mscale). Don't forget to mention guys like Grass Arceus, Skymin, and Yveltal (scarf Foul Play + Defensive).

Arceus-Ground @Earth Plate
100 HP / 80 Atk / 216 Def /112 Spd
Jolly Nature
~Swords Dance
~Earthquake
~Stone Edge
~Recover

Ok, so I invented this Arceus-Ground EV spread and it works of course. Out-speeds max speed Palkia and takes the following from Scarf-Zekrom:

252+ Atk Teravolt Zekrom Outrage vs. 100 HP / 216 Def Arceus-Ground: 171-202 (42.1 - 49.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

It is no slouch offensively either:

+2 80 Atk Earth Plate Arceus-Ground Earthquake vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Palkia: 322-381 (100 - 118.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

+2 80 Atk Earth Plate Arceus-Ground Earthquake vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Mewtwo: 354-417 (100.2 - 118.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Of course, when playing with this set you have to be wary of support Arceus with Will-O-Wisp, but if you can eliminate that, this set will not let you down. Mega-Gengar is a good partner.
