Boasting high Special Defense and an Ice neutrality, Articuno is a staple defensive piece on Flying teams, being able to take on dangerous special attackers like Choice Specs Greninja and Dragapult. Freeze-Dry puts the chill on Water- and Flying-types like Ogerpon-W, Enamorus, and Dragonite, and Roost gives it reliable recovery. Substitute lets Articuno avoid Toxic from walls like Toxapex and Clodsire, but U-turn can be used instead to provide a safe switch to powerful teammates like Dragonite and Landorus. The EV spread lets Articuno outspeed Belly Drum Azumarill and uninvested Landorus-T and clear the former's stat boosts with Haze. Gliscor is one of Articuno's best partners, since it can absorb Knock Off and threatening Electric-type Attacks. Offensive powerhouses like Landorus and Galarian Moltres also appreciate Articuno being able to sponge hits for them and safely pivot them in with U-turn. Tornadus-T in particular is a great partner for Articuno, as it can outspeed and remove threats to it like Ogerpon-H and Iron Valiant and safely pivot it in.
