(I have worded this incredibly poorly, but you're more likely to live +2 Hyper Beam so instead I have loosly specified how the matchup is correctly played.) Azumarill can only deal with Choice-itemed sets. (Saying this doesn't add anything.) Against Choice Band Sawk, it is best to use Aqua Jet turn one and then Play Rough as it is likely that they are running Counter and will counteract you if you use it. (Reword this to reflect a 50/50 since they can also Poison Jab on the anticipated Aqua Jet.) Similar situations in which you will need to perform the same guidelines include Choice Band Urshifu-R, Choice Band Crustle, and Alolan Marowak. (Unfortunately, we don't reliably beat Choice Band Urshifu-R. Play Rough into Aqua Jet can KO but is hardly favourable. You're correct about Crustle but that only applys if you're using the alternative spread, which needs to be specified, alongside the how the matchup plays out which you already described in the first paragraph which can simply be moved here. Alolan Marowak is also a win with both spreads, so mention it before Crustle to avoid confusion.) Despite being boosted by Assault Vest, there are still special threats that Azumarill should try to avoid like Choice Specs Primarina, Magnezone, and Porygon2. Substitute Disable Dragapult is also a difficult matchup for Azumarill if it chooses not to run Knock Off as Liquidation is unable to break its Substitute and it can Phantom Force till Azumarill is forced to use Play Rough; Disable, and proceed to KO it with Phantom Force. (No need to describe how you lose a matchup.) Azumarill enjoys having Noble Roar Kyurem as a partner, luring in physical threats like Urshifu-R, Haxorus, and Sawk, (Sawk 50/50s aren't fun and as previously mentioned, we lost to Urshifu-R) while Kyurem can deal with special wallbreakers and Stall users like Nasty Plot Porygon-Z, Primarina, Slowbro, and Mandibuzz. (The educated reader will understand that Kyurem can run a multitude of sets and deal with these threats accordingly, but we can't assume the reader is educated. There's too much to take in here and I question Kyurem's ability of being able to handle all of these threats simeltaneously, especially when you realise that Nasty Plot is run on every Porygon-Z set to break Chansey after using Trick. Break this up into more points and include other team options if you have to.) Having Pokemon that can deal with physical wallbreakers pair well with Azumarill; Salazzle and Hawlucha can check physical wallbreakers like Choice Band Galarian Darmanitan, Shell Smash Crustle, (we already beat Shell Smash Crustle) and Rillaboom. In return, Azumarill can deal with Urshifu-R, Choice-itemed Rotom-A Rotom-H, (Choice-item Rotom-W/C wins) and Gardevoir.
