Tornadus-Therian @ Assault Vest
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Tera Type: Steel
Timid Nature
- Bleakwind Storm
- U-turn
- Knock Off
- Heat Wave

Tornadus carves out a strong niche for itself by being the only regenerator pokemon with access to a pivoting move and Knock Off. It can leverage this by forcing progress into nearly every structure. In addition to this Tornadus can provide an offensive check to threatening mons such as Zamazenta, Ogerpon-Wellspring and even Great Tusk, one hit KO-ing the latter. With its great speed tier it can use U-turn to pivot out of would be threats safely such as Kyurem, Garganacl and Raging Bolt with Assault vest allowing Tornadus to survive a Thunderclap from the latter. Heat Wave allows Tornadus to threaten defensive checks that would otherwise wall it such as Corviknight. With an Assault Vest, Tornadus functions as a key defensive and progress-making piece for various teams, acting as a blanket check and bolstrers its special bulk enough to where it is able to reliably switch into several special attackers such as Mixed Iron Valiant, and Choice Specs Dragapult and threaten then back with bleakwind storm or item removal with knock off. (I might add more to this before I submit it for QC)

Assault Vest Tornadus fits best on Balance teams where its several talents in one teamslot are greatly appreciated. It serves as a great partner for pokemon such as Kingambit, Sammurot-Hisui, and Garganacl, all of them appreciating Tornadus's ability to answer the tier's fighting types as well as Ogerpon Wellspring, with the latter two in particular appreciating the utility of Knock off. It can also pair well with other regenerator pokemon such as Alomomola and Slowking-Galar, the former of whom creates a strong physically and specially defensive backbone to a team, as well as a double pivot core, helping to enable Tornadus's more offensive partners to hit the field more often. Due to the choice of Assault Vest over Heavy Duty Boots. Tornadus needs to be very careful to avoid Stealth Rocks less they undercut Tornadus's regenerator. As a result, pokemon such as Great Tusk or Weezing-Galar prove excellent partners for the temporal genie with the former having particularly strong synergy in being able to hit Rock and Electric types that Tornadus is weak to, and they in turn appreciate Tornadus' ability to switch in and out against special attackers that would threaten their lower defensive stat such as Nasty Plot or Choice Scarf Gholdengo, which Tornadus can pressure to switch with Heat Wave. Tornadus can also struggle with several special walls and pokemon which it can't pressure significantly with Knock off, such as specially defensive Gliscor or Garganacl, the latter of whom threatens super effective rock type damage. It may also face trouble against the few pokemon that can outrun it, such as Weavile or Dragonite after a Dragon Dance. Partners which can deal with special walls such as Ogerpon-Wellspring and Choice band attackers such as Rillaboom or Zamazenta allow Tornadus to make the most of its defensive profile. Pokemon that can provide speed control such as Dragapult, Booster energy Iron Valiant or Scarf Darkrai can ensure that anything Tornadus doesn't outrun is dealt with, allowing Tornadus to Pivot around slower targets more effectively to stack regenerator healing over the course of a game, and to pressure vulnerable targets with its coveted flying stab.
