move 1: Rapid Spin
move 2: Roar
move 3: Body Press / Avalanche
move 4: Recover
item: Heavy-Duty Boots
ability: Sturdy
nature: Impish
evs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD

[SET COMMENTS]
Avalugg's incredible physical bulk, access to reliable recovery, and Rapid Spin make it a defensive staple that can deal with threats to Ice teams such as Excadrill, Bisharp, Tyranitar, and Mega Aerodactyl. Rapid Spin allows Avalugg to remove opposing entry hazards for its teammates. Roar phazes setup sweepers like Mimikyu and Mega Altaria that Avalugg cannot touch with Body Press, or Mega Tyranitar if it runs Avalanche. Body Press works well in conjunction with Avalugg's high Defense stat, letting it hit Steel-, Dark-, and Rock-types such as Ferrothorn, Excadrill, Bisharp, and Tyranitar. However, Avalanche allows Avalugg to deal good damage to Zapdos, Landorus, and Tapu Bulu that it otherwise relies on Roar to handle. Heavy-Duty Boots is invaluable, as it provides an immunity to entry hazards, especially Stealth Rock, to prevent Avalugg from being chipped and breaking its Sturdy. Avalugg should generally avoid status aliments such as Toxic and getting hit by Knock Off, since it will be too weakened to check the aforementioned Pokemon. Sturdy allows Avalugg to survive moves from powerful attackers like Hydreigon, Keldeo, and Victini, successfully using Rapid Spin against them.

All of Avalugg's teammates appreciate its defensive utility, especially since Ice teams are vulnerable to entry hazards. Alolan Ninetales can deal with Fighting-types such as Urshifu-S, Keldeo, and Mega Gallade. Additionally, it provides defensive support through Aurora Veil, giving Avalugg an opportunity to wall threats such as Mega Lopunny, Terrakion, Excadrill, and Bisharp. Choice Scarf Weavile is particularly useful for revenge killing Ghost-types such as Aegislash, Blacephalon, Gengar, and Spectrier that spinblock Avalugg, trapping them with Pursuit. Piloswine forms a nice defensive core with Avalugg; Thick Fat and Eviolite let Piloswine take on Fire-types such as Volcarona, Blacephalon, and Mega Charizard Y, it can set Stealth Rock to let Avalugg chip down foes with Roar, and it can absorb attacks from most special attackers like Tapu Koko, Alolan Raichu, Hydreigon, and Nihilego. Galarian Darmanitan is capable of revenge killing Steel-types like Aegislash, Celesteela, and Heatran with the combination of Flare Blitz and Earthquake, especially if it's running a Choice Scarf. Cloyster especially appreciates Rapid Spin support from Avalugg, as it can preserve its occasional Focus Sash and get an easier sweep with Shell Smash.

Other Options
=============

Ice
--------
Mirror Coat works well in tandem with Sturdy, allowing Avalugg to unexpectedly OHKO foes when it's at full health such as Magnezone, Keldeo, and Heatran, which all threaten Ice teams. Iron Defense allows Avalugg to consistently wall threats such as Mega Lopunny, Mega Scizor, and Alolan Golem while simultaneously boosting the power of Body Press. Toxic can slowly put offensive foes on a timer, but is hard to fit.

Checks and Counters
===================

Ice
--------
**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Volcarona, Victini, Blacephalon, and Mega Charizard Y can KO Avalugg with their powerful STAB moves.

**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types such as Keldeo, Urshifu-S, Kommo-o, and Terrakion can deal a good amount of damage to Avalugg with their STAB moves. However, after an Iron Defense boost, Avalugg can withstand a few hits from Terrakion and retaliate with a boosted Body Press.

**Steel-types**: Steel-types such as Aegislash, Celesteela, and Heatran can beat Avalugg with ease. Aegislash completely walls Avalugg and can stall it with Substitute and Toxic or set up with Swords Dance, Celesteela defeats it with Leech Seed, Toxic, and Flamethrower, and Heatran has Fire-type STAB moves.

**Rock-types**: If Avalugg lacks a move they fear, then Rock-types such as Mega Tyranitar, Alolan Golem, and Mega Aerodactyl force Avalugg to take their powerful STAB moves. Nihilego is an especially great check to Avalugg, since it's a special attacker. However, Avalugg can beat Mega Aerodactyl with Avalanche and the other aforementioned Rock-types with Body Press.

**Status**: Toxic wears down Avalugg, making it harder for it to check Pokemon. Burn's Attack drop makes it difficult for Avalugg to apply pressure on Pokemon.

**Special Attackers**: Avalugg's Special Defense stat is poor, making it vulnerable to many prominent special attackers in the tier, such as Tapu Koko, Landorus, Blacephalon, Tapu Lele, and Latios to name a few.

**Ghost-types**: Ghost-types spinblock Avalugg and are immune to Body Press, limiting Avalugg without Avalanche to Roar and Recover. A few Ghost-types, such as Aegislash, Blacephalon, and Gengar, can completely force Avalugg out.

- "Defensive Rapid Spin" or "Physically Defensive" are more abrangent names for the set;
- Slash Avalanche after Body Press. It's a more consistent STAB option that deals hefty damage to frailer neutral targets while bopping Ice-weak threats like Zapdos, Landorus, and Dragapult;
- Roar is indispensable regardless of which move you're running in the third slot; it allows Avalugg to not be setup fodder for the threats that take either Body Press or Avalanche comfortably, so Iron Defense should be in OO instead;
- You have two slashes between HP and Defense; remove one.

[SET COMMENTS]
Moveset Description
- In the Roar description, add that it can also phaze setup sweepers it can't touch should it be running Avalanche, like Mega Scizor and Mega Tyranitar;
- Remove the Iron Defense description and put it in OO;
- Add an Avalanche description after Body Press's;
- The EV spread + Nature description is missing; I think it's nice to add it somewhere as it is one of the reasons why Avalugg is that great of a wall for Ice teams;
- In that last sentence, I would just mention Victini overall and take away the "and Choice Band or Z-Celebrate" because all Tini variants are capable of hitting it hard enough. Add "against them" after Rapid Spin (minor but is more concise).

Good Teammates
- Ice teams should never lack hazard removal. That phrase looks a bit contradicting on an Avalugg analysis since that's its primary purpose; I would remove it and just say Ice teams are vulnerable to entry hazards;
- Mention Aurora Veil on the Alolan Ninetales part;
- Galarian Darmanitan should be mentioned as a revenge killer/wallbreaker that can beat Steel-types with its Fire moves for Avalugg;
- Add some examples of Ghost-types and mention Weavile can trap them with Pursuit;
- Mention Eviolite Piloswine can take on special attacks for Avalugg and set Stealth Rock, which makes Roar have extra effectiveness;
- Add that Cloyster appreciates having entry hazards removed to pull off a Shell Smash sweep easier;
- Add that Mamoswine checks Fire- and Rock-types and can also set Stealth Rock. In return, Avalugg preserves its occasional Focus Sash.

- Swap Avalanche's description for Iron Defense's, as said above;
- Toxic fits in here as a way to put offensive Pokemon it walls on a timer, but, like with the other stuff mentioned here, it is hard to fit.

Checks and Counters
===================

- I think narrowing Fire, Fighting, Rock, and Steel-types as "Super Effective Coverage" would be better here, as it compresses four very similar bullets into one. You can also do them individually if you don't fancy that (in that case, you would have to add Steel- and Rock-types);
- Add "status" as a bullet - Burn and Toxic cripple Avalugg's walling job, and the former reduces Body Press's/Avalanche's power. Paralysis makes its job more inconsistent;
- Since Avalanche is now a slash, fix the Ghost-types bullet by putting "If Avalugg's not using Avalanche" before the "immune to Body Press" part.

[Set Comments]
- avalugg should always phase out mscizor with roar unless its iron defense+body press (then it can be 1v1d)
- listing all of avaluggs teammates seems excessive, just say all of avaluggs teammates appreciate x
- list an example of a steel-type darmg kills w/ blitz
- add water cloyster as a teammate

Avalugg's incredible physical bulk, access to reliable recovery, and Rapid Spin make it a defensive staple that can deal with threats to Ice teams such as Excadrill, Bisharp, Tyranitar, and Mega Aerodactyl. Rapid Spin allows Avalugg to remove opposing entry hazards for its teammates. Roar phazes out setup sweepers like Mimikyu and Mega Altaria that it Avalugg cannot touch with Body Press, while it can also phaze out or Mega Tyranitar if it runs Avalanche. Body Press works well in conjunction (spelling) with Avalugg's high Defense stat, letting it hit Steel-, Dark(AH)-, and Rock-types such as Ferrothorn, Excadrill, Bisharp, and Tyranitar. However, Avalanche allows Avalugg to deal good damage to Zapdos, Landorus, and Tapu Bulu that it otherwise struggles to beat by relying relies on Roar to beat. (if "to beat" doesn't fit without "struggles to", consider using "to handle", etc.) Maximum HP and Defense investment with an Impish nature maximizes Avalugg's physical bulk, allowing it to take on the aforementioned threats to Ice teams easier. Heavy-Duty Boots are is invaluable, as they it provides an immunity to entry hazards such as(AC), especially (I assume) Stealth Rock, Toxic Spikes, and Spikes to prevent Avalugg from being chipped and keep and breaking its Sturdy intact. Avalugg should generally avoid being crippled by status aliments such as Toxic and get its Heavy-Duty Boots removed getting hit by Knock Off, since it will be too weakened to check the aforementioned Pokemon. Sturdy allows Avalugg to survive moves from powerful attackers like Hydreigon, Keldeo, and Victini, successfully using Rapid Spin against them.

All of Avalugg's teammates appreciate its defensive utility followed by Rapid Spin, especially since Ice teams are vulnerable to entry hazards. Alolan Ninetales can deal with Fighting-types such as Urshifu-S, Keldeo, and Mega Gallade. Additionally, it provides defensive support through Aurora Veil, giving Avalugg more opportunities an opportunity to wall threats such as Mega Lopunny, Terrakion, Excadrill, and Bisharp. Choice Scarf (unless you meant Choice Scarf Spectrier?) Weavile is particularly useful for revenge killing Ghost-types such as Aegislash, Blacephalon, Gengar, and Spectrier with a Choice Scarf while that spinblock Avalugg, trapping them with Pursuit (RC) as they can prevent Rapid Spin from being used. Piloswine forms a nice defensive core with Avalugg; Thick Fat and Eviolite let it Piloswine take on Fire-types such as Volcarona, Blacephalon, and Mega Charizard Y, it can set Stealth Rock to let Avalugg chip down foes with Roar, and it can absorb attacks from most special attackers like Tapu Koko, Alolan Raichu, Hydreigon, and Nihilego. Iron Defense allows Avalugg to consistently wall threats such as Mega Lopunny, Mega Scizor, and Alolan Golem while simultaneously boosting the power of Body Press. Toxic can slowly put offensive foes on a timer, but is hard to fit due to Avalugg's access to already great movepool options in Roar, Body Press, and Avalanche.

**Fire-types**: Fire-types such as Volcarona, Victini, Blacephalon, and Mega Charizard Y can KO Avalugg with their powerful STAB moves.

**Fighting-types**: Fighting-types such as Keldeo, Urshifu-S, and Kommo-o(AC), and Terrakion can deal a good amount of damage to Avalugg with their STAB moves. However, after an (articles) Iron Defense boost, Avalugg can live withstand a few hits from Terrakion (should Urshifu-S also be included here?) and retaliate with a boosted (clarity) Body Press.

**Steel-types**: Steel-types such as Aegislash, Celesteela, and Heatran can beat Avalugg with ease. Aegislash completely walls Avalugg and can stall it with Substitute and Toxic or set up on it if it's using a with Swords Dance set, Celesteela defeats it with Leech Seed, Toxic, and Flamethrower, and Heatran has Fire-type STAB moves.

**Rock-types**: If Avalugg isn't running Body Press lacks a move they fear, then Rock-types such as Mega Tyranitar and(AC), Alolan Golem(AC), and Mega Aerodactyl force Avalugg to take their powerful STAB moves (RC) while (AP). Nihilego is an especially great check to Avalugg(AC), since it's a special attacker. However, Avalugg can beat Mega Aerodactyl with Avalanche and the other aforementioned Rock-types with Body Press.

**Status**: Toxic is a consistent status aliment that slowly wears down Avalugg time, making it harder for it to check Pokemon. If Avalugg is burned, then the power of its moves are decreased, making Burn's Attack drop makes it difficult for Avalugg to apply pressure on Pokemon.

**Special Attackers**: Avalugg's Special Defense stat is poor, making it vulnerable to many prominent special attackers in the tier(AC), such as Tapu Koko, Landorus, Blacephalon, Tapu Lele, and Latios to name a few.

**Ghost-types**: Ghost-types are able to spinblock (RC) completely preventing Rapid Spin from being used. Avalugg is also forced to use Roar or Recover against Ghost-types as they Avalugg and are immune to Body Press, while a limiting Avalugg without Avalanche to Roar and Recover. A few Ghost-types(AC), such as Aegislash, Blacephalon, and Gengar(AC), can completely force Avalugg out.
