[SET COMMENTS]
Avalugg is one of the greatest physical walls of the tier due to its massive physical bulk. It is normally used in the stall archetype as a physical wall with reliable recovery and entry hazard control. In consonance with its defense stat, Body Press helps Avalugg to hit hard against some Stealth Rock setters such as Piloswine, Galarian Stunfisk, and Aurorus. Toxic helps to round up the main set wearing down the opponent's foes. Its role as entry hazard control has been boosted since last generation due to the appearance of Heavy-Duty Boots which help Avalugg to switch in anytime is needed. It is worthy to note that Ghost-type Pokemon such as Cofagrigus and Spiritomb can switch in front of Avalugg and avoid block Rapid Spin.
Nevertheless, Avalugg's low special defense stat and poor defensive typing make it vulnerable to the majority of special attackers. Altaria can help Avalugg checking both Fire- and Fighting-type moves for both special and physical part. Golbat is also a good addition countering Centiskorch and Fighting-type Pokemon. Both Altaria and Golbat help Avalugg removing entry hazards against Ghost-type Pokemon. Palossand and Tangela can also check Rock- and Fighting-type physical attackers such as Lycanroc, Sawk, and Gurdurr which scare Avalugg. Qwiflsih is also a good addition as it checks Centiskorch and Fire-type Pokemon and can settle down its own entry hazards. Both Rapid Spin and entry hazards duad smoothly building up hazard stacking teams. Special defensive walls such as Audino, Clefairy, Cryogonal, and Galarian Stunfisk pair well with Avalugg, checking special attackers.

Other Options
=============
Avalugg can also have Roar, synergizing with its physical bulk and the ability Sturdy, to phaze setting up sweepers.
Checks and Counters
===================
**Special attackers:** Most of the special attackers of the tier such as Skuntank, Wishiwashi, Clawitzer, and Ludicolo can threaten Avalugg due to the low special defense bulk
**Fire-type Pokemon:** Fire-type Pokemon such as Centiskorch and Rapidash can threaten Avalugg. Centiskorch can remove Heavy-Duty Boots with Knock Off and then spam super effective STAB Fire Lash decreasing Avalugg's physical defense. Rapidash with Swords Dance and Flare Blitz can overcome Avalugg.
**Fighting-type Pokemon:** Fighting-type Pokemon such as Gurdurr and Sawk can threaten Avalugg. Meanwhile Choice Scarf Sawk can 2HKO with Close Combat, Gurdurr can set up multiple Bulk Up and attack with Drain Punch. Both of them can also remove Heavy-Duty Boots with Knock Off.
**Rock-type Pokemon:** Rock-type Pokemon such as Lycanroc, Rhydon, and Kabutops can threaten Avalugg. Rhydon can set up Stealth Rock and boost its physical attack with Swords Dance to finally deal some damage with Rock Blast. Lycanroc and Kabutops with Swords Dance and Stone Edge can overcome Avalugg.
**Ghost-type Pokemon:** Ghost-type Pokemon such as Spiritomb and Cofagrigus can threaten Avalugg resisting Body Press and attacking in return with Dark Pulse and Shadow Ball, respectively. They can also boost themselves in front of Avalugg if not running Roar.
**Item removal:** If Heavy-Duty Boots are removed, then Avalugg cannot switch with ease when Stealth Rock are up. Knock Off users such as Uxie, Clefairy, Alolan-Persian, and Audino and Trick users like Rotom threaten to cripple Avalugg.
