Draft Avalugg

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 8

**Price Range**: 1-2 Points

**Overview**: Avalugg is defensive wall that is able to check a large amount of physical threats with its titanic Defense stat while having several tools in its movepool to check setup sweepers. It can also serve as an entry hazard remover with great longevity. However, Avalugg is greatly hampered by its bad typing, low Speed, and extremely weak Special Defense.

[strategy comments]
Common Roles
=========

**Utility Defensive Wall**: Avalugg has a huge Defense stat and excellent utility moves. This allows it to serve as a catch-all physical wall and entry hazard remover with longevity. Body Press along with decent coverage prevents Avalugg from being passive.

Common Moves
========

**Primary STAB Moves**: Avalanche, Ice Spinner, Icicle Crash, Icicle Spear

**Setup Moves**: Iron Defense, Curse

**Utility Moves:** Rapid Spin, Recover

**Coverage**: Crunch, Body Press, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Stone Edge, Gyro Ball, Heavy Slam

Niche Moves
========

**Mirror Coat**: When Mirror Coat is combined with Sturdy, Avalugg can score a surprise KO on unsuspecting special attackers.

**Rock Tomb / Bulldoze**: Rock Tomb and Bulldoze lower the opposing Pokemon's Speed, allowing Avalugg's teammates to threaten them more easily.

**Chilling Water**: Chilling Water allows Avalugg to weaken the Attack of threats without being shut down by Taunt. However, since it comes off of Avalugg's terrible Special Attack, it does pitiful damage.

Common Items
========

**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Heavy-Duty Boots is simply one of the best items for Avalugg, as the removal of its crippling entry hazard vulnerability is essential for it to wall threats.

Niche Items
========

**Rock Helmet**: Rocky Helmet can be used to further punish physical walls and especially U-turn and Flip Turn pivots.

**Leftovers**: Leftovers provides Avalugg helpful passive healing, although it is usually not worth the entry hazard vulnerability.

**Choice Band:** Avalugg has a decent Attack stat and respectable coverage. This allows Avalugg to serve as a usable bulky Choice Band user. However, Avalugg's terrible Speed and entry hazard vulnerability limit this heavily.

Tera
========

Avalugg can be a decent pick as a secondary Tera Captain, as it can gain a much better defensive typing, such as Fairy or Water. Tera Poison can block Toxic while allowing Avalugg to serve as a Toxic Spikes switch-in. Tera Ghost is more niche, but it drops Avalugg's Fighting-type weakness while allowing it to spinblock. Tera Fighting is an option to give Avalugg a boosted Body Press, which is strong on IronPress sets.

Draft Strategy
========
Avalugg can provide some nice value in the later rounds due to its many uses on fully rounded teams. It fits well on teams that could use a general physical wall with longevity, a secondary spinner, or a potential bulky wincon.

**Specially Defensive Walls**: Avalugg cannot switch into special attackers, so switch-ins for these threats such as Galarian Slowking, Ting-Lu, and Iron Crown are appreciated.

Checks and Counters
========

**Special Attacks**: Avalugg cannot switch into or stay in against any special attacker to any degree. Physically oriented wallbreakers can still beat Avalugg with special coverage.

**Ghost-types**: Ghost-types spinblock Avalugg, preventing it from using its most appealing utility. The most convenient way for Avalugg to do damage is Body Press. However, Ghost-types take this away, and non-Curse sets will struggle to do meaningful damage against most Ghost-types.

**Taunt / Encore**: Avalugg is extremely susceptible to Taunt and Encore due to its low Speed stat. Taunt users can deny Avalugg recovery or even set up with ease. Encore users annoy Avalugg similarly, as they can punish it for using status moves.

main thing to change here is spending a ton of time talking about its pretty bad set up sets

[overview]
**Draft Order**: Round 8

**Price Range**: 1-2 Points

**Overview**: Avalugg is a surprisingly flexible defensive wall to patch a draft up in the later rounds. Avalugg that is able to check a large amount of physical threats with its titanic Defense stat while having several tools in its movepool to check setup sweepers. It can also serve as a dangerous setup sweeper and entry hazard remover with great longevity. However, Avalugg is greatly hampered by its bad typing and extremely weak Special Defense.
way too positive for a mon with such a massive downside
setup sets exist but but theyre not anywhere near good enough to mention in the overview

Common Roles
=========
**Utility Defensive Wall**: Avalugg has a huge Defense stat and excellent utility pool. This allows Avalugg to serve as a catch-all physical wall and entry hazard remover with longevity. With Iron Defense, Avalugg can boost alongside otherwise threatening setup sweepers and punish them with Body Press.
it doesnt really rely on iron/press for dealing with the large majority of physical set up sweepers
Say that body press/solid attack stat + coverage makes it less passive

**Setup Sweeper**: Once Special Attacking threats are removed, Avalugg can be a fearsome late-game wincon with Iron Defense or Curse.

Common Moves
========

**Primary STAB Moves**: Avalanche, Ice Spinner, Icicle Crash, Icicle Spear

**Setup Moves**: Iron Defense, Curse

**Utility Moves:** Rapid Spin, Recover, (RC) Substitute

**Coverage**: Crunch, Body Press, Earthquake, Rock Slide, Rock Tomb, (RC) Stone Edge, Gyro Ball
rock tomb to niche with bulldoze
Niche Moves
========
**Mirror Coat**: Combined with Sturdy, Avalugg can demolish score a surprise KO on an unsuspecting Special Attackers.

**Rock Tomb / Bulldoze**:
can lower foes speed allowing avalugg's partners to deal with them

**Chilling Water**: Chilling Water allows Avalugg to weaken the Attack of threats without being shut down by Taunt. However, since it comes off of Avalugg's terrible Special Attack, it does pitiful damage.

Common Items
========
**Heavy-Duty Boots**: Heavy-Duty Boots is simply one of the best items for Avalugg, as the removal of its crippling entry hazard vulnerabilities is essential for it to wall threats.

Niche Items
========
**Leftovers**: Leftovers provides Avalugg helpful passive healing, although it is usually not worth the hazard vulnerability. Leftovers pair best on setup sweeper sets, as it makes it easier to setup while wasting less Recover PP.

**Rock Helmet**: Rocky Helmet can be used to further punish physical walls and especially U-turn and Flip Turn pivots.
Move helmet above lefties

**Choice Band:** Avalugg has a decent Attack stat and respectable coverage. This allows Avalugg to serve as a usable bulky Choice Band bruiser of sorts user. However, Avalugg's terrible Speed and hazard vulnerabilities limit this heavily.

Tera
========
Avalugg can be a decent pick as a secondary Tera Captain, as it uses Terastillization effectively can gain a much better defensive typing. Tera Fairy or Water provides Avalugg a great defensive typing. Tera Poison can be potent with setup sets by blocking block Toxic while allowing Avalugg it to serve as a Toxic Spikes switch-in. Tera Ghost is more niche, but it drops Avalugg's Fighting-type weakness while allowing Avalugg it to serve as a spin-blocker.
if you want to mention the possibility of setup sets it should be here
something along the lines of with a better defensive typing it can threaten to set up although it is still extremely susceptible to special attacks

Draft Strategy
========
Avalugg can provide some nice value due in the later rounds due to its many uses on fully rounded teams. It fits well on teams that could use a general physical wall with longevity, a secondary spinner, or a potential bulky wincon.

**A Specially Defensive Walls**: Avalugg cannot switch into Special Attackers, so a switch-in for these threats such as Galarian Slowking and Ting-Lu are appreciated.
Try to have at least 3 examples

**Offensive Threats**: Aside from Curse sets, Avalugg is largely passive against the majority of defensive walls which can neutralize it with Toxic or use it to set up hazards. Offensive threats such as Dragapult, Gouging Fire, and Darkrai are excellent teammates to keep defensive opponents from making easy progress.
not really necessary for a pokemon this cheap if you have a fully rounded team you will have offensive threats
special walls are ok to mention because its a pretty specific weakness

Checks and Counters
========
**Specially Offensive Pokemon Attacks**: Simply put, Avalugg cannot switch-in or stay in against any Special Attacker to any degree. Mirror Coat sets can provide a way to punish these threats, but they significantly chip into Avalugg's utility and can easily be scouted for.
add that mixed/physically orientated attackers can still break through it with special attacks

**Ghost-types**: The most convenient way for Avalugg to do damage is Iron Defense with Body Press. However, Ghost-types take this away, and non-Curse sets will struggle to do meaningful damage against most Ghost-types.
also mention ghost spin blocking being annoying

**Taunt / Encore**: Avalugg's damage output is modest without any boosts. Due to this, Taunt users can deny Avalugg Recovery or even set up with ease.
encore also has the same problem so you should add it too. should mention that its extremely its low speed makes it especially susceptible to both
