Azelf Counter? Or just Mediocre? (Mightyena Discussion)

No topic existed for this Guy apparently, and I think he with the changes DOES deserve one...

Mightyena gets some really good moves in both the attacking and support realm and I think he might be able to at least moderately use his new ability Quick Feet to really mess some things up

Mightyena@Toxic Orb (?)
Nature: Jolly EVs: 252 Attack, 252 Speed, 4 HP
- Crunch
- Fire Fang
- Me First/Facade
- Ice Fang

Send it in on Azelf that you know is using Nasty Plot or Psychic against you, Toxic Orb Will Activate and Quick Feet will make you Faster than Azelf, Crunch means good bye Azelf if it stays in... Shame that Mightyena doesn't get Pursuit tho. Since you have Boosted Speed Me First on any thing that you can predict well enough to get some good damage on, or Facade for a 140 BP normal attack. Fire Fang is For Heracross and Weavile which I believe you get a even speed with after Quick Feet Activates, but I don't know if Mighty has the Attack Stat to KO either in one Shot, might want to bring mighty back later to have a killing blow. Ice Fang is For Garchomp... just remember you are not going to last long with this setup, but you can take down one or two pokemon with it potentially.

Mightyena@Choice Band (?)
Nature: Adamant/Jolly
EVs: 252 Att, 252 Speed, 4 HP
- Sucker Punch/Crunch
- Thunder Fang
- Ice Fang
- Fire Fang

Attempt at Generic Choice Bander, kind of weak but if you switch into a predcited Status, this could work with Quick Feet as well.

Want to know what you all think of Mighty's potential usage in standard, or even other situations for using him.

Sucker Punch is a cool move. You can combine it with Taunt to ensure that they don't set up on you, but if they're faster that's not really any help... Yawn might be good here, or even Roar with Spikes support.

Mightyena also gets Sleep Talk if you wanna go with a cool Quick Feet set. I wouldn't call Mightyena an Azelf counter simply because it doesnt belong on the same level as other Dark-type viable Azelf counters (sorry for bringing up tiers before the metagame, but it's true, Weavile, Houndoom and co. are just better :/) STAB on Crunch is a big upgrade for Mightyena from ADV, and these other cool new Dark-type moves could prove for an interesting set, but he's just underpowered in the Base Stat realm. On the bright side, Mightyena has certainly benefitted from the improved graphics in Diamond/Pearl -- the sprite is badass :)

Yea i had thought of putting this on a Stealth Rock Team as a "potential" Azelf Counter, and wanted to hear about what the opinions were on this guy, his Attacking Stat is a bit low at 90 base which is somewhat a problem, so you would have to set him up, and use him as more of a "finisher" obviously, but i think the potential is there with some of the movepool (Taunt, Sucker Punch, etc)...

Toxic Orb poisons you at the END of your turn, not the start, so you'll still be slower than Azelf when you switch into it for the first time. So, unfortunately, it's better to just use Sucker Punch straight away against Azelf, and that means that it's better to just use a better user of Sucker Punch than Mightyena.

But won't it trigger at the end of the switch-in turn? Not that Mightyena is all that great, just want to be clear on this.

Don't forget that Mightyena gets Counter, which might be helpful as it can survive some physical hits after Intimidate.

Mightyena is more versatile as generally given credit for. With these new changes, he might move to UU - where with Intimidate he can be a good starter, if he stays in NU, he'll be an even better starter. But with Quick Feet...his ATK power is still pretty meh. So is his durability. Sadly.

Basically Mightyena sucks and is not getting any use unless he is allowed in NU. It's so lame it doesn't have Pursuit, but I suppose he can nerve-wreck Chimecho or something in his own environment.
