This Swinub likes to take things slow and go at his own pace. He's less of a sprinter and more of an endurance runner, which can lead to indecisiveness, but ultimately he stands firm in his beliefs and perpetually moves forward, regardless of his speed. He tends to be quite naive and easily swayed though. He founded the ASB Yamaku High to find like-minded companions.

"Listen up now, we're gettin' technical. Below my main orders lies a substitution. It allows me to predict and counteract some of your possible strategies. Here, I want to prepare for Protective/Evasive moves, which allow you to evade most attacks, like Protect, Detect, Agility (Evasive) and the like.
Subs are powerful tools to not get overwhelmed, be sure to master them if you wanna be successful!
Now it's your time to write your orders. Show me what you got!"

Oof... Two super effective STAB moves... Thanks to that low special attack, though, it shouldn't hurt too much.
I sure wish I had protect now... If I used it on my second action, I could take just one freeze dry, pushing back the icy wind. (correct me if I'm wrong)
Oh well, let's make the most of what we have! Let's start by setting up with a rain dance, and don't let him escape: Muddy water and then whirlpool!

They can allow to avoid damage even if they are a bit EN-costly -but I guess instead of simply explaining I'll show you how effective they can be. Firsthand."

"D/E moves are pretty powerful, so keep track of each one's evade and strike priority to not give your opponent any leeway.
Now, notice how your -1 Spe and my -1 Acc are gone in the post-round overview. This is not an oversight: stat changes decay with each round the stat is not altered. Keep that in mind!"

Clerk_m_OD.png
"Now that Whirlpool is gone, I'll introduce you to switching. You can only initiate a switch phase if you order first this round, and can't initiate two in a row.
When switching, the opponent has the opportunity to counterswitch, i.e. switch as well. If they do so, however, they have to order first! Switch phases are a good tool to keep the pressure on your opponents, but watch out for potential entry hazard damage!"

Switching Hisao the Swinub out for Brunhilde the Heracross!
Would you like to counterswitch?

Counterswitch to Ubuntu the Rotom!
Hey Ubuntu, I’m Sivanandi.
It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance... wait how do you know my name?
Worry about that later, there’s a great overpowered bug facing you down right now.
That beast is a laughing matter. It so happens that this bug is also fighting type and, therefore, I am less vulnerable to any of its moves that are boosted by—
It also knows throat chop.
...ah.
And knock off.
Er—
And night slash, and shadow claw, and pursuit, and—
Why, pray tell, does it know FIVE moves that hit me super effectively?!
That’s ASB, buddy.
I am growing less and less inclined to do battle with this beast.
You will have to face it down, though, I don’t want Zipper fighting something that powerful...
Fear not, laddie! My move pool teems with utility options!
What do you... (looks at move pool) ... I think we will be very good friends.

Fun time, TMan! Try working around this! (You’ll probably destroy me anyway but whatever)

Will-O-Wisp | Confuse Ray | Ominous Wind
IF
Brunhilde is ordered to use an attack-boosting move, THEN Snatch and push back
IF Brunhilde is ordered to use a protective/evasive move, THEN Double Team and push back

Oh, btw, I didn't realize it yesterday, but I forgot to equip an item when sending out (which is mandatory to precise on a mon's first sendout), while you did the same.
I'll allow you to equip and reorder if you so wish.

You also should watch out for sub abuse. With these subs, if I were to use an Atk-boosting move thrice in a row, you'd Snatch thrice in a row, which would drain your EN rather quickly.
This is where you can use [ONCE] or [NON-CONSECUTIVE] tags.
For example, you could use "[ONCE] IF Brunhilde is ordered to use an attack-boosting move, THEN Snatch and push back" to dissuade me from using such a move without exposing yourself too much.
Yes, I might end up with an Attack boost, but I'd use two actions and a lot of EN to do so, which maybe isn't worth it.

With all of that in mind, feel free to rethink your orders and tag me on Discord once you're done!

Throwing an Amulet Coin at Heracross.

Ok then. I'll give Ubuntu an Amulet Coin and redo my stuff.

Will-O-Wisp | Confuse Ray | Ominous Wind

[NON-CONSECUTIVE] IF
Brunhilde is ordered to use an attack-boosting move, THEN Snatch and push back

IF Brunhilde is ordered to use a protective/evasive move, THEN Double Team and push back

Clerk_m_OD.png
"A few things to note in your orders: first of all, what would happen if I used Protect x3 here, hmm? Well I won't do it, but you gotta be careful about how your opponent can abuse your subs. This is where [NON-CONSECUTIVE] tags can come into play. Another good sub could have been "IF Brunhilde is ordered to use a protective/evasive move AND you don't have Double Team clones up, THEN Double Team and push back". This prevents you from using it even when you already have Double Team clones up, which likely means you already used the move. Also, check the move's description, you need to precise how many clones you want to create.

Second thing is: you might not pay enough attention to the real threats. Atk-boosting moves are great and all, but Dark-type combinations are much more threatening to your Pokémon right now. Combinations are a powerful tool that involve 'fusing' two moves together, like (Thunderbolt + Thunderbolt) or (Water Gun + Hydro Pump)... or stuff like (Knock Off + Knock Off) in this case. The drawback is a forced action of cooldown and increased EN cost, but it can be devastating with the right timing. Be sure to cover your bases about this if you feel the need to.

And third... thanks for the free Guts boost! Though I guess it prevents me from using Endure later on... but is it truly worth it?"

Substitute (15) | Knock Off | Night Slash

Reffing coming later.

"Your orderset was good, but combinations usually have a priority of -2 (if they only involve moves that would act at 0 priority), which means I'd attack before you were you to use one. It's a common mistake when you're beginning, you'll quickly learn how it works.
Something you apparently didn't notice was that I used 3 subs when the rules only allow me to use 2. That renders the third sub automatically illegal and you could have used Ghost-type combos without fear of me using Dig to evade them.

"This concludes your first b101 match. You have exhibited good strategical thinking, you just need to gather knowledge and know how the game works (usually, pure offense is the way to go, tricks are used only at crucial moments). I'd say you're on good rails!
In a week or so, we'll have a second match where you'll be able to rent 3 FE Pokémon and any item, and I'll do the same. This will allow you to grasp how the game flows with more complete movepools.
In the meantime, feel free to head to the Battle Tower to have your first matches! Of course, if you have any question, ask around on Discord.
The Handbook is also an invaluable tool should you draw a blank on a rule."

"Now, go enhance your Pokémon in the Prize Claiming Thread! Buy them moves! You should have had a good insight into what's powerful and what's not by now. btw, these KOC are free, they can be converted into AC, EC, MC or even CC for you to keep and spend on mons or items. Sweet, isn't it?"
