So, I posted a team a few days ago, and a few people helped me pick it apart and change it. However, one of things I did was change the mega around without changing the team to suit, so I had no dedicated counters and the team didn't gel. Considering the team has had a whole revamp, I had to create a new RMT, as the old post would have looked cluttered and horrible. Apologies for making a few posts quite quickly, but it had to be done this way. As in keeping with my original team I wanted to make it as simple yet as effective as possible, with each mon having a specific role and function. These are: Physical Sweeper, Special Sweeper, Physical Tank, Special Tank, Wallbreaker and Utility. "So let's go" - Zohan.
That's the team! As you can see I've sorted the team into very specific roles, going back to the roots of a balance team and keeping it simple but effective. As such, any recommendations you offer have to be a replacement of that role; i.e. a better mon than Conkeldurr has to be physical, since I want this team to be a perfect balance. I'll post the import code as well as a list of threats I encounter as I test this team more. After making it I had 3 battles and went 3-2, losing the last game because I got burned with scald in the first use, Focus blast hit on his first try, he critted twice AND despite being paralysed his Mega Alakazam went 3 rounds and went 2-1 on my team, winning the game for him, so I'm not really counting that - it was pure bad luck, and the second one I was winning, he had 2 mons left and my internet cut out :'(
Anyway, please give me your 2 cents worth, I think it's a pretty good line up and I put a lot of thought into it so I'd like to see any recommendations you do have!
Teambuild process
I started with my wallbreaker and mega of choice, Scizor, since I knew it was who I wanted to build the team around.
Next up is Rotom-W, forming the start of my anti-fire defensive core.
Heatran completes the defensive back-bone of the team, and provides another delicious direct fire counter.
I really needed a good keldeo switch in alongside Rotom, who actually can't take 2 sacred swords due to it's EV spread. Starmie also gives me a nice ice resist and a win-con vs dragons with boosted ice beam as well as the chance to spread burn hax,
Another great Keldeo switch in, Leftovers Thundurus gives me a win-con, T-wave hax and speed control.
Finally, I needed a strong physical sweeper, capable of setting up and being able to smash through Chansey walls. Another M-lop counter doesn't hurt either, and it's the second mon of the team immune to status cons.
The team at a glance:
More detailed look:
Scizor @ Scizorite - The Wallbreaker.
Ability: Technician
EVs: 248 HP / 44 Atk / 16 Def / 200 SpD
Impish Nature
- Swords Dance
- Roost
- Bullet Punch
- Knock Off / Bug Bite
The star of the team. A +6 Scizor is good night, and I've gone 6-0 with this before because of it's amazing bulk, resistances and reliable recovery. With the focus being on fairies this meta since they were introduced, with great threats such as Mega Gardevoir and Mega Diancie, and also popular mons weak to steel like Kyurem-B, Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Tyranitar, it really helps to have a strong technician boosted priority move, to make up for it's ridiculous speed tier. I've gone for a really defensive spread, bumping up it's special defence to ensure I'm never ohkod by Clefable fire blast, or 2hko with Mega Gardevoir Focus blast, and I can afford to invest in my special defence since the 140 base defence stat allows me to survive a 3hko from max invested Lando-T earthquake. Also, since it's carrying knock off, it becomes my prime Mega Alakazam counter, since it can't do enough damage to me and I can easily KO it. Of course, with enough SD I can just bullet punch it, but if Scizor goes down before M-Alakazam I'm in trouble.
Standard moveset really, Swords dance and roost because I want this thing to rip them a new one. Bullet punch because it's the single best move for Scizor, since steel hits a surprising amount of mons for neutral damage, and knock off for utility. I'm considering Bug Bite because it hits harder than knock off but is still SE on the same sort of targets. Gengar however resists bug bite, but I can handle him.
Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers - The Physical Tank
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD
Bold Nature
- Will-O-Wisp
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Pain Split
This guy means business. This little funky washing machine has such good defensive stats it's a wonder he's still in OU. Maybe if he had 100 base HP instead of 50 he'd be higher, but alas, it means we get to use him in our favourite category. I've gone for full defensive stats because it's my bird spam counter, survivng 4 brave birds off a choice band T-flame, and hitting more damage with hydro pump than Char-X can deal with Dragon Claw, as well as surviving 3 close combats from Mega Pinsir and 2hkoing it. The only mon that gives me trouble is Charizard-Y with that solarbeam, but my Thundurus counters him hard. It doesn't even need special defence training to resist special fire types either: Mega Manectric overheat is a 5hko, Serperior HP fire deals 6%, but his leaf storm could be a problem. Even Conkeldurr with his huge attack stat fails to 10hko me with fire punch. This is the sole reason I've picked Scrotom-W: it keeps the fire types of Mega Scizor's back. With no threat of fire types looming over M-Scizor he can sweep once and for all, and Rotom is the perfect mon to soak up that damage. Also, it can spread burns and that's nice too. I once shut down a Mega Garchomp with a combo of burning it through swords dance and hydro pumping it. He rage quit. Don't underestimate this little guy.
Again, hugely standard move set for a Rotom build. Hydro pump and Volt switch offer great stabs and mean I'm not walled or locked in with no attacking moves. Pain split gives me shaky recovery and W-o-W gives me some cool utility and the ability to shut down physical attackers.
Heatran @ Leftovers - The Special Tank
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Stealth Rock
- Rock Slide
- Earth Power
What else soaks up fire attacks? Oh yeah, flame body Heatran! With the unparalleled ability to switch in to fire attacks with complete impunity, he was the obvious choice for the completion of my defensive core. He's such a great mon to pivot with, sporting a neutrality to stealth rock and with leftover recovery means he can switch in and out as he pleases. He's my n#1 Lati@s counter, and carries rock slide for this reason (also for killing Char-Y. RIP) Although it does little damage, it's useful for not being walled by the twins, since they fail to 9hko me with their stabs, making Heatran a great dragon pivot. He can also completely switch in to Serperior, as it resists everything he has and keeps it from setting up on my Starmie and Rotom-W (though I can volt switch the latter). He can also switch in to non Earthquake variants of T-tar and Mega Metagross, and proceed to make their life hell. He even carries earth power for that small chance to ohko an enemy Heatran, i.e. one that isn't offensively oriented. As well as being a great dragon pivot is also gains the ability to, alongside Mega Scizor, switch into fairies, although Clefable and Sylveon threaten M-Scizor pretty badly; the former with flamethrower and the latter with uninterested hyper voice. Regardless, he affords a place on my team for being the best fire soak in OU.
Moveset is also fairly standard (I'm sounding like a record here now). Lava plume for reliable stab, stealth rock just for if I get the chance to use it, rock slide for a secondary bird counter and to avoid being locked in to something that resists it, and earth power for enemy defensive heatrans and other mons weak to it; ground fire types such as Arcanine, Infernape and Entei spring to mind.
Starmie @ Life Orb - The Spinner
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Psyshock
- Ice Beam
- Scald
I needed a good switch in to Keldeo, since it can really fuck up my Heatran with all it's stabs, and my Rotom has a hard time fending off two sacred swords. More than that, a Mega Lopunny counter doesn't hurt; While it can't do much at all to my Mega Scizor (HJK deals 43%) it can run riot on my team with fast fake outs, so a good strong psyshock would never run amiss. Aside from the obvious rapid spinning capabilities, it also serves me give me a win-con vs dragons since I'm lacking dragon and fairy moves on this team. Namely, a guaranteed ohko vs fatchomp, gliscor and landorus keeps those ground types off my Heatran, while scald gives me a backup against birds, outspeeding both Charizard variants and dealing decent enough damage with scald to Char-x, a guaranteed 2hko in fact. Unfortunately, a choice band Talonflame does still pose problems to Starmie, as it reliably ohkos with a brave bird, so I'm considering a few points put into defence for this reason. As well as being my spinner, with a fully offensive set it's able to function as a back-up special sweeper, outspeeding everything at the 110 speed tier (which is a lot) and dealing great neutral damage to most of OU, including an ohko to Gengar, a 2hko to both Lati variants while outspeeding, so that's pretty reliable too. It also takes care of tanks weak to water too; namely a 2hko to both Mixed Hippodown and specially defensive Heatran. This thing can really punch holes in the team, especially if they switch into Starmie allowing it to use it's analytic ability properly, since it never gets the chance normally.
Moveset is there to cause as much damage as possible and still be a spinner. Honestly, I'm willing to sacrifice Starmie for it's spin if it's what I need to do, and won't think twice about it, especially since I get great coverage with the rest of my team. All moves there are for stabs and coverage, personally loving the fact that the ice beam ohkos Gliscor, since toxic heal/sub sets are cancer.
Thundurus @ Leftovers - The Special Sweeper
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Thunder Wave
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Ice]
- Nasty Plot
Next up is my other win con and possibly the mon of this team that surprises me again and again with it's sheer damage and versatility. Sitting above the coveted 110 speed tier by literally 1 point is all I need to go through Gengars, and if it's +2 I can go through life orb latios, 2hko latias but survive the meteor, ohko Keldeo, Skarmory, Slowbro, Talonflame, if I'm +2 I even go through Mega Alakazam and Mega Metagross, having the bulk to survive an invested psychic. It even deals 226% of mega Gyarados' health and outspeeds it, while at +2 (it doesn't really matter against hippo since it has a ground immunity) it goes through mixed hippo, and deals 92% of a swords dance Bisharp's health unboosted, and works alongside M-Scizor to bring down Mega Aerodactyl on the switch if it's carrying rock slide. Prankster gives me the chance to spread mad thunder waves, and also gives me a gimmicky boost since it's priority too, so that's fun. It's really easy to set up too as long as I get the predict right. The best bit about T-flame is I outspeed it by2 points if it's adamant, and since BB can't kill me it loses its priority. Of course, I could potentially sacrifice Thundurus to use it's thunder wave if it comes to it - lowering the speed of it's flare blitz helps me out with Mega Scizor, and so Thundurus becomes a key part of this team, being really fast and strong in it's own right.
Standard moveset for this bolt strike mon: Prankster T-wave and Nasty plot give me great utility and set up chances, while HP Ice and Thunderbolt give me great damage and coverage, where only a few pokemon such as Thick fat Mamo, Magnezone and Lanturn resist me. Everyone else gets smashed.
Conkeldurr @ Leftovers - The Physical Sweeper
Ability: Guts
EVs: 248 HP / 252 Atk / 8 SpD OR 248 HP / 252 SpDef / 8 Att
Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up
- Mach Punch
- Drain Punch
- Fire Punch
Finally, bulk up Conk. Went with lefties so that I could use bulk up, as AV wouldn't let me. Also went guts since it'll be useful for 1/2 of my physical attacking team to be invulnerable to burn damage (and since M-Scizor should never be out against fire types I should never get the other half burned unless scald spreads burn hax). To be honest I chose Conk because my second physical sweeper had to be able to smash through Blissey walls, and this guy keeps Mega lopunny, Serperior, Lucario and all Scizor variants off the rest of my team with it's abiility to hit hard with fire punch. Keeping serperior is key to helping out Starmie and Rotom. Although I hit a 68% fire punch, he hits me for 60% and then gets the leaf storm boost. However, it'll make him incredibly easy to revenge kill. He's running bulk up to give me a win-con and also a way to deal with Mega Metagross if I get the chance to set up: at +2 I ohko with fire punch and take only 56% damage off a zen headbutt. That's huge: a stab super effective attack coming off a 252 attack tough claws mega with 389 attack. Once he sets up he takes 0 shit. Except Mega Alakazam and priority birds: T-flame, unless I get the chance to really set up, can decimate Conk with a single Brave Bird while I can't do shit against him. This means my water types and bird counters are going to be working overtime, since my two physical attackers and win cons are shut down by a single poke.
Moves are there for maximum damage and utility. Mach punch attempts to patch up Conk's bad speed, while strong stabs and reliable damage moves give me coverage, and bulk up to be a badass. To be honest, I could run a specially defensive conk, and go 252/232 or something, and use bulk up to boost my attack, but it takes way too much to set it up to be any kind of use then, since it's only a x1 boost rather than swords dance's 2.
Conclusion:
I started with my wallbreaker and mega of choice, Scizor, since I knew it was who I wanted to build the team around.

Next up is Rotom-W, forming the start of my anti-fire defensive core.

I've encountered a few problems so far:
Talonflame - for obvious reasons, T-flame can go 2-0 on Scizor and Conk, and can easily KO Thundurus if it's not paralysed or it's jolly rather than adamant, and can kill Starmie. The only ones it can't kill are my two dedicated counters to it.
Mega Lopunny - This should be on everyone's threat list. I have counters for this mon, Conkeldurr being my prime one, but it still poses problems to the team, especially when Conk is down.
Mega Alakazam - If Scizor is down, he can 5-0 - my only chance is for his focus blast to miss and chip away with lava plume on Heatran, or burn or paralyse it and bring it down through relentless assault - there's no clean, graceful way to take this thing out.
