SS OU Balanced Galarian Articuno, the Lando-T answer!

Hey all! This is my first RMT, so please be blunt with your suggestions, as I would love to improve the team even more!

So, as everyone knows, Lando-t sucks. However, an unusual core, :Zeraora: and :Articuno-Galar:, actually manage to deal with him very well. Hence, my Garticuno-Zeraora team!

Articuno-Galar @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Competitive
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Def / 252 SpA
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Stored Power
- Agility
- Air Slash
- Recover

The star of the show! This set was inspired by another user on this forum (whom I admittedly forgot, sorry) (edit, thank you JamesLeo!), made to get a 4 stage sp. Attack boost off lando knock off (and an agility the turn of the knock off), then sweep with stored power and air slash (calcs below). Without boots tho, you need to be careful when to bring in the Bird, and usually I try to condition/feel out my opponent’s use of defog/lando-t with Zeraora before I make my reads.

Zeraora @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Volt Absorb
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Close Combat
- Knock Off
- Plasma Fists
- Volt Switch

Classic Zeraora set, nothing special. I usually try to knock lando on switch in, then the next time I bring Zera out I can go Garticuno. What more needs to be said about this monster?

Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Eruption
- Earth Power
- Flamethrower
- Flash Cannon

Ah yes, a personal favorite. Still debating between Timid and Modest, so please feel free to lmk in the thread comments. Eruption can punch some serious holes in ground types, opening the floor up for Zeraora later in the game. Flamethrower because I just can’t trust fire blast to hit every time, and flash cannon + earth power for coverage.

Now, on to the more boring part of the team: the walls.

Blissey (F) @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Seismic Toss
- Soft-Boiled
- Thunder Wave
- Teleport

Ahh yes, the egg. Every balanced team’s dream mon. Walls just about everything on the special side, then paralyzes them so they can be disposed of later by our offensive boys. Again, what more needs to be said?

Skarmory @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Body Press
- Spikes
- Toxic
- Roost

...And where there’s a blissey, it’s safe to say there will be a metal bird as well. Skarmory is our spike setter/toxic spreader, with body press to hit steel switch-ins like heatran. I’m still tinkering with this set (I kinda want Iron Defence) so feel free to offer suggestions!

Hippowdon @ Heavy-Duty Boots
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 40 Def / 216 SpD
Careful Nature
- Earthquake
- Whirlwind
- Stealth Rock
- Slack Off

And finally, spdef hippo. This mon just seems to work on this defensive core. Our rocks setter, setup manager (yay whirlwind!), and our obligatory ground type. This. Mon. Eats. Hits. I don’t know why but damn this mon is chunky. A reliable switch-in to heatran and can set up rocks on switchout. More hazards mean more defogs, and more defogs mean more chances for competitive!

Thanks so much for reading, and PLEASE feel free to suggest changes!
