Balanced-Offensive UU Team [v1.0]

Quick intro:
My first RMT on this site that I'm writing, so I expect there to be mistakes in this.

So far, I've played 16 matches with this team, losing my last.. 4 games consecutively, Darmanitan and Victini being my main sources of trouble, I'm thinking I should try changing my Empoleon (maybe a Swampert with a Rindo Berry), but not quite sure what to change it to.

Updates:
  • Switched Empoleon for Swampert, changed Arcanine's Intimidate to Flash Fire, switched Arcanine's Rest to Morning Sun, switched Shaymin's Rest to Synthesis

crobat.png

Crobat (M) @ Black Sludge
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 176 HP / 192 Atk / 4 SDef / 136 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Brave Bird
- U-turn
- Taunt
- Roost

This team is ideally centered around Crobat, it's is my 2nd favourite Pokemon. Crobat uses the Stallbreaker set from the Strategy Pokedex. So first thing I did was cover for the weaknesses: Electric, Rock, Ice and Psychic.. another concern are the Steel types that can wall this set. Crobat pretty much is my main check for most Fighting-types (Mienshao and Heracross in particular), being able to outspeed and OHKO or severely damage any of them that are not Scarfed. Originally had a VoltTurn setup with Rotom-H, but felt like there was a lack of Physical damage to break down certain walls.

arcanine.png

Arcanine (M) @ Life Orb
Trait: Flash Fire
EVs: 76 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 176 Spd
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Flare Blitz
- ExtremeSpeed
- Wild Charge
- Morning Sun

This set is identical to the Offensive set listed (only taking 4 EVs for Special Def instead of 8), the main purpose of this Pokemon is to eliminate Steel types (Bronzong in particular) that try to wall my team, along with though, have to be careful of the Earthquake that some of them carry. Switched the Intimidate -> Flash Fire, overestimated the effects of Intimidate a little, previous set used Rest along with Aromatherapy on another Pokemon.

swampert.png

Swampert (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Scald
- Rest
- Roar
- Stealth Rock

Actually using a DPP variation of the RestTalk build, minus the Talking half. While Arcanine can't really use Rest too well, I figured since Swampert is a lot bulkier, Rest can be used a little more effectively, plus after setting down Stealth Rock, it's really only there to sponge attacks. Running a Scald over Waterfall can really surprise some Rhyperior sets:
0 SpA Swampert Scald vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Solid Rock Rhyperior: 58.89 - 70.66%
0 SpA Swampert Scald vs. 96 HP / 0 SpD Solid Rock Rhyperior: 91.89 - 109.36%
0 SpA Swampert Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Solid Rock Rhyperior: 97.84 - 116.44%
16 SpA Swampert Scald vs. 248 HP / 244 SpD Solid Rock Rhyperior: 60.96 - 72.74%
16 SpA Swampert Scald vs. 96 HP / 0 SpD Solid Rock Rhyperior: 94.17 - 111.64%
16 SpA Swampert Scald vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Solid Rock Rhyperior: 100.26 - 118.86%

0 Atk Swampert Waterfall vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Solid Rock Rhyperior: 52.65 - 62.35%

Guaranteed 2HKO, high chance to OHKO on sets that don't focus into Special Def

Switched Empoleon for Swampert to take Fire, Electric and Fighting attacks a lot better.. has an x4 weakness to Grass, but Grass hits are taken quite well by 3 other Pokemon on the team.

shaymin.png

Shaymin @ Leftovers
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 236 SDef / 20 Spd
Calm Nature
- Seed Flare
- Leech Seed
- Synthesis
- Aromatherapy

Not the most conventional set, I chose Shaymin for its Aromatherapy Roserade also has this move, but Roserade is a little lacking in HP and Def, limiting the number of times they can be switched in. The EVs.. I took the EV spread from the Specially Defensive Celebi. Shaymin has been quite useful overall, absorbing a lot of the Electric and Water-type attacks, though, mono-attacking with Seed Flare burns its PP rather quickly. I couldn't really think of another Aromatherapy/Heal Bell user off the top of my head.. so I just used this one. Switched Rest to Synthesis, so I'm not forced to switch out after using it.

hitmontop.png

Hitmontop (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spd
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Rapid Spin
- Foresight
- Sucker Punch
- Close Combat

Typical Rapid Spin set, its Intimidate and its Physical EV investment allows it to take most of the Physical hits.. but Hitmontop gets worn down rather quickly. Typically switched into other Fighting-types for Intimidate, but also takes most physical attacks. Between Crobat and Hitmontop, the two of them deal with most Fighting types. The biggest Physical attacker that I've had problem with is CB Victini, even after the Intimidate, can 2HKO.

mew.png

Mew @ Life Orb
Trait: Synchronize
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Dark Pulse
- Psyshock
- Aura Sphere
- Nasty Plot

Pretty much the Nasty Plot set, Dark Pulse provides identical coverage to Shadow Ball (exception of the Ghost/Fighting difference of course), Psyshock already hits the Fighting types that could resist Dark Pulse, but more importantly, always takes out Roserade (except for Focus Sash sets), even without the Nasty Plot. I'm actually thoroughly surprised with this set, being able to 1-2HKO most switch-ins that are expecting some form of Baton Pass set. Thinking of maybe removing Mew completely for something else.. Maybe Volt Switch and try to function like Rotom-W does to VoltTurn.

Problems I've (in my opinion anyway) been facing:
  • The Rest usage on Arcanine has been pretty useful, though, I haven't really been able to switch into Shaymin safely to cure its Sleep..
  • Scarf-users, primarily Victini and Darmanitan being a fairly large problem for my team, perhaps changing Intimidate to Flash Fire on Arcanine would deal with that, or switching Empoleon to another Water-type to resist the hit
  • Lack of Rock and Fighting resistance against things like Mienshao
  • Lack of Electric resistance outside of Shaymin
  • Perhaps a different Heal Bell/Aromatherapy user?

Switched out:
empoleon.png

Empoleon (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Torrent
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SAtk / 252 SDef
Calm Nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Ice Beam
- Scald
- Stealth Rock
- Roar

Specially Defensive Empoleon, while taking Ice attacks really well, also takes a lot of damage from the switch-ins that Crobat or Arcanine drag in.. Empoleon has done quite well against the Yanmega sent against me though. As much as I like its Steel typing, its Fighting weakness is quite painful. Empoleon does take 3/4 of Crobat's weaknesses.. but they tend to have another move to hit Empoleon hard. My secondary lead, though, it's mainly for its Steel-typing and the Stealth Rock.

Hey, you might want to make sure that every member of your team has at least 3 lines of information, or this thread'll get locked D:

Anyways, I'll go ahead and give you some help: Rest on Arcanine with Aromatherapy sounds appealing. It really does. However, what if Shaymin was to die? Then you'd have a sleeping Arcanine that will take too much time to wake up. I'd suggest you run Morning Sun anyways since it's much more reliable. Intimidate can work for Arcanine for fighting types, but if you're having problems with Victini / Darmanitan that much, you should probably go for Flash Fire. You can keep Aromatherapy on Shaymin if you want or you can use Substitute to make a SubSeed set. If you still want a Heal Bell / Aromatherapy user, you could always use Umbreon, who has the bulk to take on Electric types. Or you could put Heal Bell on Mew and have a Swampert to take on those scarf users and electric types (watch out for Hidden Power), while also being able to set up rocks.

Just my input, but you should definitely work on those descriptions! Good luck on your team.

Alright, thanks for your input :)

Changed up a couple things..
I completely forgot about Umbreon, maybe I should switch out Mew for Umbreon.. doing that, I can switch my Shaymin for some other Grass type..

Hey, cool RMT. I really like that you provided links for sets, terms, and items that may not be self-explanatory at first glance, and I give you props for going the extra mile and making it easier for your raters to, well, rate this team. Thanks!

First off, run full special bulk on Shaymin. The 20 EVs for the Sp. Def Celebi set are to get a speed creep on Pokemon specific to the OU metagame, I recommend you not toy with the EVs in this way unless you're planning to want to outrun something specific.

Nasty Plot Mew is a very effective Pokemon, however, there is another pixie out there that can run a similar set and hit a lot harder, and that's Azelf. Try giving Azelf a shot there too; it's definitely a lot less bulky than Mew but it has an overall better speed stat, and it also has Substitute to get around its fragility.

Sucker Punch is honestly a pretty pitiful move on Hitmontop; you will often fail to revenge kill threats due to how ridiculously underpowered it is. It's also pretty predictable, as proper use of the move requires switching into Hitmontop at a very specific opportune time. Run Toxic instead so you can give Stallbreaker Crobat and Swampert some help.

Speaking of Hitmontop, are you absolutely sure you want Rapid Spin on this team? Arcanine takes 25% from Stealth Rocks, yes, but it also has reliable recovery so I don't see the need. A more powerful fighting type like Machamp or even just a generally better support Pokemon could fit in that spot and I think the team would still function fine. It also helps that you don't have any choice users that will force you to switch.

That's it from me! Good luck.

The Shaymin EVs.. makes sense, thanks for that :p As for Mew vs Azelf... I was honestly thinking of switching out Mew completely for an Eviolite Magneton, Magneton resists all of Crobat's weaknesses, and completes a VoltTurning setup between the two. Also, it can trap Bronzong, use Magnet Rise to evade the Earthquake, and take an easy KO with its STAB Thunderbolt. Hmm.. I'll test out Toxic..
