XY OU Balanced Spikes Naught-Tran core (Peaked at 1672)

As much as this is a RMT this is also an opportunity for me to improve my team which has notable holes in it. I think of myself as a good in-game battler but a horrible team builder because of this I often take teams I find on RMT.
My school club is having a school pokemon tournament and instead of using someone else's team I wanted to build my own.

TEAM BUILDING PROCESS
To begin I wanted to use an original defensive core, I decided to use the heatran and chesnaught core which has worked great but mega-pinsir rips the core another one.

Heatran is a great rocker and lava plume is always a great STAB move, toxic is a pain and is great at catching pokemon on the switch like greninja(life orb and toxic= bad news ninja). either roar or taunt work for the last spot but with spikes on chesnaught the residual damage is nice with roar. Roar is what I currently use and it is probably going to stay that way. Toxic is great for more residual damage. The speed EVS allow me to outspeed kreeping mega scizors.

Heatran @ Leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 248 HP / 192 SpD / 68 Spe
Calm Nature
- Lava Plume
- Toxic
- Stealth Rock
- Roar

Chesnaught serves as the spike user and completes the core with heatran. Max def and max HP because I don't see a need for any other spread of EVs and with being inherently slow, speed creeping isnt an option. Rocky helmet has great synergy with the spike and rocks, wearing down whatever wants to test chestnaughts bulk. Leech seed is almost a must on all grass walls. I used spiky shield for awhile but then realized that rocky helmet does more damage anyways and any physical attacks that come in are not going to do much. Wood hammer is the best stab move in my opinion. Hammer arm is the other options but with superpower in azumarill it isn't necessary

Chesnaught @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature
- Leech Seed
- Synthesis
- Spikes
- Wood Hammer

As mentioned before hand mega-pinsir is a complete pain and a return against chesnaught does not really work well for me...
rotom-wash.jpg

Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split

As much as I hate rotom-wash, it's hard to ignore how versatile he is, he stops huge threats like greninja and scarf keldeo. Pinsir is also checked and is forced to switch out with will-o-wisp. Also as just an added bonus the ability to volt switch out and keep up offensive momentum. With spikes and rocks both being present the residual damage from my opponent becomes a huge problem for them. Pain split was chosen over rest and chesto because of how important of an asset rotom is to this team, he is the glue which holds the team together. If chesto gets knocked off I don't have a cleric to wake him up and the time needed to wake him up is too precious. Pretty standard set.
bisharp_by_xous54-d3grmb2.png

Bisharp @ Black Glasses
Ability: Defiant
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Knock Off
- Sucker Punch
- Swords Dance
- Iron Head
Now for the offense, Bisharp on a spikes team is amazing, spikes weakens any pokemon that wants to come in and defiant makes defogging such a risky option, Along with this the steel typing is always an added bonus. I chose not to use pursuit on bisharp because the lati twins aren't that big of a problem against my team, Adament over jolly because the added attack is nice and their is not a threat I need to outspeed. Life orb is a possibility but I haven't tested it too much. Might be nice since clefable is annoying.
250px-184Azumarill.png

Azumarill @ Assault Vest
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Waterfall
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Superpower
Here is where my novice teambuilding comes into play Azumarill... because why not this was all I could come up with. This is where I could use some help. Anyways... the fairy typing is nice and the added steel-fairy core is great. I chose the simple AV azumarill set for personal preference really, I might change it to a sitrus berry belly drum set in the future if I keep azumarill which is not likely. The AV helps deal with keldeo and greninja if I weaken my rotom.
250px-381Latios.png

Latios (M) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Draco Meteor
- Psyshock
- Defog
- Hidden Power [Fire]
Why latios you may ask because... I am scrub. I feel like everyteam I use has atleast 1 lati on it. Latios was chosen because the added bulk wasnt needed and the power from HP fire is great against threats like ferrothorn and skarmory. It might make more sense to use magnezone because the defog is very counterproductive and HP fire is a fairly easy read when looking at the rest of my team. There isnt much to say about latios as he is quite lackluster on my team as expected...

Overall the defensive core is great and it is really what wins me the games however the offense, Most notable latios and azumarill suck and they don't really add anything to the team. I was thinking of sand offense maybe but excadrill would eliminate bisharp as a member and the added defiant boost is nice.
Thanks for reading

Hello! Just wanted to know that you can save your post as a draft (press the button that looks like a floppy disc --> Save Draft). You can then exit the window, create a new post, and it'll be right there (as long as your cookies weren't cleared!) =)
You noted that you were choosing between Roar or Taunt, but I would go for Roar only because, without choice scarf, Heatran won't outspeed too many Pokemon enough to Taunt them.
Good luck on your team ^-^

Hey there, nice team you have here!
Spike stacking is not all this good this gen, with defog everywhere. You also have latios with defog, and Chesnaught with spikes considering that defog gets rid of your own hazards. Seeing as this team is sort of based around spike stacking, I would probably recommend Starmie over Latios, because it is faster, and does not get rid of your own hazards with rapid spin. By doing this however, your team will have too many water types on it, so I would probably use Talonflame over Rotom-W. Your AV Azumarill already happens to counter non Grass Knot Greninja, and counters Keldeo too. Talonflame works as an offensive check to Pinsir, because after Pinsir dies, you can send it in to revenge kill it. Talonflame also gives your team more priority, and works as a good cleaner with Choice Band.
Assault Vest Azumarill usually prefers to carry Knock Off over Superpower, because Knock Off has more utility with knocking off items, and Superpower is only relevant for Ferrothorn, which Heatran and Talonflame can take care of already.

tldr;
Latios ---> Starmie
Talonflame ---> Rotom-W
Superpower ---> Knock Off

Here is the starmie set that I was recommending:
121.gif

Starmie @ Leftovers/Life Orb
Ability: Analytic
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Hydro Pump
- Psyshock/Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam
- Rapid Spin

And here is the well known band talonflame:
663.png

Talonflame @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Roost/Will-O-Wisp/Tailwind/Me First

This is definitely a very cool team using the underrated Chesnaught + Heatran core. Good luck!
