So this is my first team I've made that has done alright. It's far from perfect but I like it so far and I'd like to make it better. Here it goes...
Lead (most of the time)
Fire Monkey (Infernape) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Blaze
EVs: 148 Atk / 252 Spd / 108 SAtk
Naive Nature
- U-turn
- Fire Blast
- Stone Edge
- Close Combat
I use this mainly for scouting with u-turn or if i think a threat is going to switch in. I try my best to predict what my opponent switches in, choose moves appropriately and switch to a wall the next turn.
Special Sweeper
Freddy Mercury (Alakazam) @ Focus Sash
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Focus Blast
- Psychic
- Signal Beam
- Hidden Power [Ice]
This set has decent coverage and is usually sent out to revenge kill something I know I'm faster than or saved for a late game sweeping when its threats are removed (hopefully). I'll occasionally switch focus sash for a life orb as the extra 1.3x damage without recoil is really nice but I occasionally find myself being OHKO'd while switching in so its focus sash most of the time.
Mixed Sweeper
Generic Dragon (Salamence) @ Life Orb
Trait: Intimidate
EVs: 252 Spd / 196 SAtk / 60 Atk
Naive Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Outrage
- Earthquake
This slot on my team is really up for debate as I don't find myself using it much and has never really saved me from anything. That could very well be from me not using it properly though. Anyway I don't think this set needs very much explanation. It's mainly for taking out opposing dragon types, steel types and special walls.
Special Wall
Mr. Pringles (Jellicent) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 SDef / 252 HP / 4 SAtk
Calm Nature
- Recover
- Scald
- Shadow Ball
- Will-O-Wisp
This is pretty much the standard jellicent set you see. It provides burns for any physical sweeper opposing walls. It's good for walling rain teams and switching in for free heals every so often. I find that after I take out rain team threats (Starmie with thunder and Ferrothorn) it can generally wall the rest of the team without too much trouble as long as it's not poisoned.
Physical Wall
Iron Pinecone (Ferrothorn) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 Def / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Impish Nature
- Leech Seed
- Power Whip
- Protect
- Stealth Rock
This is probably my favourite pokemon on the team as its probably the most annoying. it can take a hit fairly well, set up leech seeds and then recover most of the damage it took by using protect on the next hit. If I think the opposing pokemon is switching out I can set up stealth rocks or have a leech seed ready for the switch in. Power whip is mostly there for hitting Politoed's who have a hard time killing this and anything frail or damaged that switches in.
Physical Tank
Metal Bug (Scizor) @ Expert Belt
Trait: Technician
Shiny: Yes
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 HP / 4 SDef
Adamant Nature
- Bug Bite
- Bullet Punch
- Pursuit
- Superpower
This is mainly used late game after any threats are cleared out. It's also used on opposing gengar, alakazams, starmies ect. pretty much anything weak to pursuit. Bullet punch for priority stab + technician boost. Bug bite is for anything weak to bug as it usually OHKO's it and super power for blissey, hydreigon, steel types and occasionally Heatran if Salamence isn't able to battle.
Sooooo that's it. I've had some decent success (by my standards...) with this team but it's certainly not perfect. Any constructive criticism is appreciated. And please suggest some replacements for Salamence.
Noticed threats:
-Volcarona (usually taken care of by Infernape as a revenge kill though)
-occasionally Heatran
-I'm not very good at picking out threats. Feel free to add more!
anyway hopefully there's some good suggestions in the comments and I look forward to reading them :)
