Hello, I'm TCG Trainer Ethan, also known as The Critic. I've hopped around PO and PS since the Weather Wars of D/P( Sand all the way, baby!) and while I don't come here consistently, the simulators have always been a way for me to chill out...even if I suck.
Today, I come to you here as a bard, telling of the tales and characters that pertain to the Legendary King Arthur. I tell this tale to any who want to learn, for my meh prediction skills and my horrendous luck keep me from unlocking this team's true potential, leaving me stuck in the 1200s, with an occasional pop into 1300.
Either that, or help me choose better characters for my story.
Lords and Ladies, I bring you, The Arthurian Legend, 3rd edition!
I loved M-Gallade, especially cause of Wally, thus he was first.
M-Gallade hates Fairies, thus I needed a poison-type. Tried Dragalage, too slow. Tried Gengar, too frail. While Nidoking isn't the best of pokemon, he fit the niche I needed.
Most every OU team worth their salt needs a rock setter. And a Cleric would be nice too. Thus, I chose Clefable, though she takes a more active role, now.
Bulky Waters are a pain for this team to handle, not to mention M-Metagross would be problematic if Nidoking went down. Thus, enters the Rotom-W.
The Next two took a while to change. Originally I had Scizor in this spot, Pursuit trapping all day to deal with the Lati Twins and working a VoltTurn core with R-W. Then I found out that 1)Clefable is not the best Rock Setter, 2) Regular Scizor is kinda meh( barring Life Orb), 3) Stall was pwning this team and 4)Trapper Heatran is a thing. So I went into a volcano and got him.
The last slot was for a Keldeo who went from Life Orb sweeper to Sub set. Then I found out the hard way at a tourney that not having a way to rid hazards is bad( went up against a great Stall team that, while the match lasted over 70 turns, had the hazards wear me down.) Thus, I swapped him for the great Defogger, Skarmory.
As for the theme, it popped into my head right after I finished the first incarnation of the team. Keldeo's sword and M-Gallade himself looked heroic and I went from there.
Now, to describe each of the characters in our story...
Arthur (Gallade) @ Galladite Ability: Steadfast/Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Zen Headbutt
- Knock Off
Arthur is the main star of my team, and, as said before, the reason this team exists He's the guy I need if I need damage or if I have Poison or Psychic types hassling my team. Also acts as a bit of a cleaner when he can and, if he can get a dance up, can threaten a sweep if the opponent can't outspeed him or is weakened. Oh, and he laughs at M-lopunny.
Jolly Nature is so he can't get out-sped. SD is for the switches he gets, giving him more damage. The other two are just pure STAB( though I hate using Z-Headbutt due to my crappy luck) and Knock Off is there to hit Psychics and screw with items.
Mordred (Nidoking) @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Earth Power
- Sludge Wave
- Ice Beam
- Flamethrower
Mordred is like an eviler, trickier version of Arthur. He's not as versatile as his good counterpart, but he can dish out some solid damage. He also acts as the quintessential cleaner and revenge killer of my team, for while he can get out-sped even with a scarf and needs hazards to get OHKO's, he gets the job done more often than not. Also gets fairies, M-Scizor and M-Diancie to be scared if he's alive and tanks any electric attacks.
I chose the choice scarf over the power boost of LO or Band because it punishes anyone not running a fast pokemon at max speed, leading to them thinking they out-speed him, when actually they don't, and earning them a nice Sheer Force-boosted move to the face.
Morgan Le Fay (Heatran) (F) @ Air Balloon
Ability: Flash Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Magma Storm
- Earth Power
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock
Ms. Morgan Le Fay uses her special spells to set my rocks and trap any poor soul who dares enter her grasp. Also acts as a nice check to steels and Grass types not named Breloom.
The only fault that Magma Storm has is that 75% acc, which, with my sad luck, misses a lot. When it hits, though, woe betide any poke that gets hit by it. Earth power is there to deal with
poison and electric, while Taunt is there so people can't heal off the damage.
Lancelot (Skarmory) (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sturdy
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Roost
- Iron Head
- Brave Bird
- Defog
Like the original Lancelot, he's not meant to be the main character. No, he clears the way for the main characters to do what they need to, mostly by dealing with Fighting and Grass types( ala Breloom and M-Venusaur), get rid of pesky hazards, tank a few hits here and there, and do a little of Clefairy flinching on the the side.
The special defense set has him taking a lot more special hits than most opponents expect, which along with Roost and his naturally high defense has him staying for a long while.
Merlin (Rotom-Wash) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 248 HP / 216 Def / 44 Spe
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
The great Merlin does three roles with his spells: 1)Predict the future by scouting with Volt Switch( and crippling water-types, 2)Attack with a powerful Hydro Pump to deal with Heatran and other Fire-types, and 3) Cripple tanks and physical sweepers with Will-O-Wisp.
The defense investment has him tanking Secret Swords and Psyshocks pretty well and Pain Split is fun to use against full-life Pokemon, while getting healing in the bargain.
Guinevere (Clefable) (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Unaware
EVs: 252 HP / 172 Def / 84 SpD
Sassy Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 24 Spe
- Moonblast
- Calm Mind
- Moonlight
- Heal Bell
We start with our king, Arthur, and end with his partner, Guinevere. She's the reason M-Sableye does not run over my team. Or Charizard-X. Or Serperior. Or pretty much any non-Steel booster, since more often than not, people expect her to have Magic Guard. It's especially funny when me and the opponet go into a boosting war with my Calm Mind; just let them boost, chuckle as their boost means nothing, then whack with a +6 Moonblast.
Too bad Unaware and Soft-boiled are not legal together ;_;
As for the Cleric side of things, she gets rid of the statuses that can cripple half my team and gives her more longevity to drop Calm Minds.
Threats:
Milotic: Merlin can't do much to her, since she is bulky enough not to be scared of Volt Switch and Marvel Scale makes burns a bad idea leading to me taking time and damage to slowly wear her down.
M-Swampert: Rain makes him very scary and the rain makes getting the burn on him impossible. He usually takes out at least one or two pokemon.
M-Charizard-Y: Sun makes his moves hurt a lot, Merlin gets pwned by Solar Beam. Only solace is that Magma Storm gets a boost... if it hits.
Azumarill-If Gwen can't kill the Belly Drum set, then my team is very much in trouble.
And thus ends my story. I hope you enjoyed this and I hope this song/team gives you good fortune.
