This team originally started out as an all Gen 1 team that slowly phased out pokemon for newer counterparts. Still without realizing it, I started creating cores. My biggest issue when making teams has always been balancing. I understand that you can't predict everything but you can be prepared for almost anything. Let me know if there's anything I should change or add. I've tested it and its performed pretty well so far, but I feel like its lacking something. Without further ado, here it is
Gyarados @ Leftovers
Ability: Moxie
EVs: 88 HP / 192 Atk / 4 Def / 224 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Bounce
The physical sweeper of the team and the first part of my Fire/Water/Grass core. I've always loved his typing I went with Moxie over intimidate because of his bulkier nature. Gyarados's main job is to switch into something it checks, set up a substitute to avoid being statused, and start sweeping. Substitute prevents annoying burns and t waves. Dragon dance lets him set up and out pace faster pokes. Waterfall is Gyarados's move of choice. The flinch chance is invaluable. Bounce allows Gyarados to take out Mega Venasaur and serves a pseudo recovery move when coupled with leftovers.
Excadrill @ Assault Vest
Ability: Mold Breaker
EVs: 120 HP / 136 Atk / 252 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Rapid Spin
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
Every team needs a spinner or defogger, and who better to go with than excadrill. Since I'm not using sand, mold breaker seemed like the superior ability. Equipped with its trusty assault vest, the metal mole can survive and take out levitating threats like Rotom W and Gengar without sustaining too much damage. Rapid spin gets rid of entry hazards. Earthquake is his stab move of choice. Ironhead allows excadrill to hit fairy types and serves as a nifty stab move with a flinch chance. Finally, rockslide allows excadrill to have decent coverage. His EV spread is on the bulkier side and allows him to take more hits and rapid spin when I need him to.
Charizard-Mega-Y @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Drought
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast
- Focus Blast
- Solar Beam
- Dragon Pulse
The wall breaker of my team and my favorite of the two megas Drought has the nice effect of canceling out pesky sand storms and boosting Charizards fire blast to ridiculous levels. Timid nature allows him to have decent speed since fireblast is boosted by sun anyway. Focus Blast destroys Tyranitar and lets me catch Heatran switch ins off guard. Solar Beam destroys pesky water types that try to switch in to Charizard. Finally Dragon pulse lets me pick off weakened Charizard X's and gives me a fighting chance against Dragonite after stealth rocks. Finally Fire Blast nukes just about everything that doesnt resist it
Sylveon @ Leftovers
Ability: Pixilate
EVs: 252 HP / 220 Def / 36 SpD
Bold Nature
- Hyper Voice
- Wish
- Protect
- Heal Bell
Sylveon forms a nice steel/fairy core with Excadrill and serves as the cleric of my team. She can switch into anything Excadril cant handle. Her Bold nature lets her tank physical hits and heal them off like a champ. Hypervoice has great base power even without investment and OHKOs key threats to this team such as Choice scarf Terrikon and Mega Medicham. The Wish protect combo allows sylveon to either pass health on to weakened teamates or scout moves while healing herself in the process. Finally, heal bell rounds off this set and allows Sylveon to win stall wall wars and give my hurt physical pokemon another chance
Chansey (F) @ Eviolite
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
- Toxic
- Seismic Toss
- Soft-Boiled
- Stealth Rock
Chansey has one job and one job only: Take hits, heal them off and set up rocks. I usually use her as my lead but that can change depending on the opposing team. Stealth rocks gets rid of those pesky focus sashes. Toxic allows Chansey to wear down the other team and force switch outs. Soft Boiled over wish since I already have a wish passer and its more important for chansey to heal off the damage immediately rather than hide behind protect for a turn. Seismic Toss prevents Chansey from becoming taunt bait and lets her finish off weakened pokes easily. eviolite allows Chansey to have great overall bulk.
Breloom @ Focus Sash
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Spore
- Bullet Seed
- Mach Punch
- Rock Tomb
The true all star of my team: Breloom. Can't tell you how many times this guy has saved me. He's the final member of my fire water grass core. Breloom usually sees play early game wheres he's most useful. Spore allows me to take a pokemon that my team might have trouble with out of omission for a bit. Bullet seed allows Breloom to perform even if he's been hit with an intimidate and does solid damage when used with technician. Mach Punch rounds out his stab and gives my team much needed priority. Finally, Rock Tomb takes advantage of technician while picking off any fire types who try to switch into it. Also has the nifty chance of lowering speed.
Well thats it. Let me know what you think
