SAND VEIL ABUSING

Teambuilding Process

Started with these two. Support Tyranitar is a great sand setter because its movepool is crazy and because it traps Lati@s. Garchomp really appreciates Lati@s being gone, as it can just setup and do a lot of work against slower builds.

A passive Pokémon such as Alomomola might seem like a weird choice but Alomomola is a really important member on the team. It switches-in on so many things, lures Ferrothorns and potentialy burns them with Scald and heals up teammates. It has a nice defensive synergy with Garchomp, too.

Serperior is another really important member on the team. It has an amazing synergy with Alomomola - on the defensive side, Almomola switches into Fire and Ice type moves, what Serperior hates and in return Serperior switches into Rotom-W. On the offensive side, Serperior stalls out with SubSeed many things that Alomomola hates such as Toxic Heatran.

Realised I only have one sand abuser. I was looking at the list of Sand Veil users and it seemed like Gliscor is the most viable abuser I could use. I was skeptical about Gliscor at first, but it's such a boss. With sand up, it beats Rotom-W most of the time, Landorus-T, TankChomp, Hippowdon without a phazing move and more. It can just sometimes win easily against slower builds because nobody in hell prepares for it.

I realised I didn't use my mega slot so I look at the list of Megas and Mega Metagross seemed like a nice option. It weakens Landorus-T and Ferrothorns for Garchomp and Gliscor and sometimes even sweeps after a Rock Polish. The steel typing really helps my team as it is my most viable way of dealing with Clefable lol.

The Team

tyranitar.gif

Tyranitar @ Smooth Rock
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 80 Def / 180 SpD
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Pursuit
- Fire Blast

Stealth Rock is a mandatory move on almost every team. Stone Edge hits mostly flying types and ZardX. Necessary to check Talonflame. Pursuit helps me against Mega Manectric, Raikou and Lati@s. Fire Blast is an amazing lure for Ferrothorn, weakening it for my team. I mostly switch it in on Mega Manectric, Raikou, Talonflame and Lati@s. Smooth Rock is the chosen item so sand could last as much as possible. 248 HP EVs maximize my overall bulk. The Defense EVs let it take an Earthquake from a +1 Dragonite, two +1 Dragon Claws from ZardX. The rest EVs were invested into SpD to take on Mega Manectric, Raikou and Lati@s better.

garchomp.gif

Garchomp @ Salac Berry
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 12 HP / 244 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Substitute
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Dragon Claw

Garchomp is a beast. Not many people prepare for this specific set and it can just beat a lot of slower teams by itself. Substitute makes this Pokémon so disgusting. It beats Rotom-W, one of its most common switch-ins most of the time with Substitute. Swords Dance boosts Garchomp's attack to really high levels, allowing it to break through slow teams. Earthquake and Dragon Claw it the preferred STAB moves. 12HP EVs ensure Salac Berry is activated on the 4th Substitute. the rest EVs were put into Atk and Spe with a Jolly nature to outspeed positive base 100s. Salac Berry is the item of choice because it just breaks unprepared teams.

alomomola.gif

Alomomola @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Regenerator
EVs: 36 HP / 220 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Wish
- Protect
- Scald
- Healing Wish

The Blob Jr., Alomomola. It has a ridiculous HP stat, coupled with really good Defense and an ok SpD. Alomomola is the cleric of my team. Wish allows it to pass huge wishes to its teammates, because none of them has a reliable recovery. Protect scouts choice-locked Pokémon and makes Alomomola able to PP stall a lot of Pokémon. Scald is arguably the best move in the game, punishing Ferrothorns and physical attackers trying to set-up. Healing Wish might seem like a weird option but I chose it over toxic because Garchomp, Mega Metagross and Gliscor are all almost completely shut down by a burn. It is a last resort move, giving a second chance to them and any of my members in general. Rocky Helmet is useful for punishing Landorus-Ts trying to U-turn. Do not stay in the field with Alomomola too long if you opponent has a set-up sweeper alive. Alomomola is really passive and staying in might cost you the win. 36HP EVs makes Alomomola reach a leftovers number, rest was invested into Def and SpD with a Calm nature to eat as many hits as possible.

serperior.gif

Serperior @ Leftovers
Ability: Contrary
EVs: 56 HP / 200 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 30 SpA / 30 Spe
- Leaf Storm
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Substitute
- Leech Seed

SubSeed Serperior is really dangerous. Your opponent thinks their Heatran walls Serperior? Well, it does not! (unless it has Taunt which is unfortunately common). It can just use Substitute on the very common Rotom-W and deal a lot of damage to the opponent's team. It is also very threatening to Grass-type-less stall. Leaf Storm hits anything, as it boosts your SpA, while dealing a lot of damage. Broken, huh?. Hidden Power Fire makes sure it is not walled by Ferrothorn or Scizor. Substitute + Leech Seed makes it able to Stall taunt-less Heatran and Chansey, and potentialy beating them 1v1. Leftovers is the mandatory item on SubSeed because Serperior really needs the extra HP bonus in order to stall Heatran.

gliscor.gif

Gliscor
Ability: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Acrobatics
- Earthquake
- Substitute
- Swords Dance

Gliscor is amazing. I was so skeptical at it in the start but it does so much work against other teams. It reaches a very nice speed-tier - it speed ties with Kyurem and outspeeds everything slower. The thing is, nobody expects it to be so fast so it can surprise kill things. Acrobatics and Earthquake are two mandatory STAB moves. Substitute is just broken. With Sand up, it commonly beats Rotom-W, Defensive Landorus-T, TankChomp and so much of its common switch-ins. Swords Dance boosts its attack to really high levels. No item is chosen because of Acrobatics. I don't think there's I should explain what Max Atk and max Spe do.

metagross-mega.gif

Metagross-Mega @ Metagrossite
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Rock Polish
- Meteor Mash
- Zen Headbutt
- Hammer Arm

I never really use Mega Metagross because it is not as mindless as other megas are but it is really strong. It reaches a really high attack stat, boosted further by Tough Claws and hits a really important speed tier. Rock Polish is used late game. It sweeps unprepared teams. Meteor Mash and Zen Headbutt are two important STABs. They hit a lot of stuff in the metagame. Hammer Arm hits Ferrothorn and Heatran for Super Effective damage. I don't think there's I should explain what Max Atk and max Spe do.

Threatlist
raikou.png
SubCM Raikou
- this thing has coverage that hits my entire team. Not only that, it sets up a Sub on many Pokémon in my team as it forces a lot of switch-ins.

gyarados-mega.png
DD Mega Gyarados - it sets up on almost anything, mainly Alomomola (I never get to burn it ;-;), it flinches or crits my Garchomp and proceeds to sweep my team.

keldeo.png
SubCM Keldeo - isn't as threatening as SubCM Raikou but if played right, can deal a lot of damage to my team. Checked by Serperior and Mega Metagross.

Stall - an annoying playstyle for my team to face against, but Serperior can do a lot of work against them.
