**Faster Pokemon**: As Banette is very frail and slow, faster Pokemon can easily outpace and KO with their respective moves, such as Simipour, Monferno, Raichu, and Rotom-F
**Dark-types**: Vullaby and Pawniard both take minimal damage from Banette's Ghost-type STAB, and can OHKO with their respective Dark-type STAB, but neither like getting burnt and the latter is OHKOed by a Life Orb boosted Hidden Power Fighting
**Status**: Banette is crippled greatly by all forms of status and is made much easier to take down once afflicted, so common status spreaders such as Rotom-F and Stunfisk make good checks
**Guts Machoke**: While it can't really switch-in to any of Banette's moves, Machoke can absorb a Will-O-Wisp and OHKO with Knock Off
- Banette is outclassed as a physical attacking Ghost-type by both Drifblim and Dusknoir as the former is a potential sweeper and the latter has better bulk
- It does have a niche as an offensive Ghost-type with much more strength than the others
- Aside from Attack, its stats are terribly low
- Banette has a poor offensive movepool with Shadow Claw, Gunk Shot, and Sucker Punch being among its strongest moves
- On the other hand, Banette has a great utility movepool, including Will-O-Wisp, Taunt, Knock Off, and more

Moves
========
- Shadow Claw is Banette's most useful STAB move, hitting the majority of the tier for neutral or super-effective damage, and dealing heavy damage when boosted by Life Orb
- Sucker Punch is used as the priority move to deal damage to Normal-types and to pick off any weakened foes
- Dazzling Gleam lands a 2HKO Vullaby after Stealth Rock damage, a common switch in to Banette
- Hidden Power Fighting could be used to OHKO Pawniard
- Knock Off is a great utility move to spam, as most switch-ins will be bulkier Pokemon that dislike their item being removed such as Vullaby or Pawniard
- Will-O-Wisp is great for crippling switch-ins such as Pawniard and Vullaby, but you must be weary of Pokemon that benefit from status, such as Stoutland and Ursaring
- Pursuit could be used to trap Pokemon expecting Sucker Punch or Shadow Claw
Set Details
========
- Maximum the EVs in Special Attack guarantee a 2HKO on Vullaby with Dazzling Gleam after Stealth Rock damage
- The EVs in Speed let Banette outspeed Pawniard, with the rest in Attack to maximize damage from Shadow Claw and Sucker Punch
- A Life Orb is used as Banette needs the boost in power to deal significant damage
- A Naughty nature gives Banette the necessary boost in Attack without compromising damage from Dazzling Gleam and Hidden Power Fighting
- Insomnia gives Banette an immunity to sleep-causing moves such as Sleep Powder from Jumpluff
Usage Tips
========
- Spamming utility moves such as Knock Off and Will-O-Wisp is an effective strategy to weaken the enemy team for a sweeper or late game cleaner
- Bring Banette in on bulkier Pokemon that may give your team trouble, as you can cripple it with a burn or remove its item
- If using Hidden Power Fighting, try not to reveal it or make it obvious that you are carrying it, if there is an opposing Pawniard
- Banette is vulnerable to all forms of status, so try to avoid it unless absolutely necessary
Team Options
========
- Set up sweepers such as Monferno or Fraxure pair well with Banette, as it can spam Knock Off to remove Eviolites and Will-O-Wisp to rack up damage, so set up sweepers can sweep teams easier
- Hazard-stacking Pokemon such as Quilladin or Roselia also pair well with Banette, as it can be used as an offensive spin-blocker
- Banette also appreciates bulky wallbreakers like Stoutland and Ursaring to assist in taking down bulkier Pokemon such as Audio and Probopass

Other Options
=============
- Banette has a long list of alternate utility moves it could run, including Thunder Wave, Taunt, Pain Split, Pursuit, Toxic, and Destiny Bond, but it doesn't really have room for them
- Banette's strongest Ghost-type STAB move, Phantom Force, could be used, but it gives the opponent a free turn
- A Choice Band set with Trick could be run, but Banette wouldn't be hitting much harder, and locking it into one move could make it set up fodder
- Banette's other two abilities, Cursed Body and Frisk, could be used to potentially disable an opponent's move and a way to determine sets through their held item, respectively
