Banette (QC: 3/3)

Yay for creepy doll things.
___________________________________________________________________

[Overview]

- Previously revered as one of 4th gen UU's best suicide Trick Roomer
- Virtually unchanged from 4th gen
- Respectable attack.
- Frail & Slow
- Good ability in Insomnia
- So cool, that it only ever uses 252 EVs.

[Set]
name: Suicide Trick Room
move 1: Trick Room
move 2: Destiny Bond
move 3: Taunt / Will-o-Wisp
move 4: Shadow Claw
item: Focus Sash
ability: Cursed Body / Insomnia
nature: Brave
EVs: 252 Atk
IVs: 0 HP / 0 Def / 0 SpD / 0 Spe

[SET COMMENTS]

- Banette's best set,
- Almost guranteed to set-up Trick Room
- Taunt hazard setter uppers. (lol?)
- Destiny bond offensive-mons
- Shadow claw so your EVs aren't wasted entirely and allow Banette to do solid damage.
- The IVs make Banette as slow and frail as possible

[Additional Comments]

- Obvious partners would be trick room abusers, such as Marowak, Beartic, Slowking, Druddigon, Exeggutor etc.
- Steel-Types also make a good partner thanks to there resistence to Dark and Ghost-Type moves.
- Magneton in particular as it also traps other Steel-Types and kills them off and can benefit from Trick Room
- Banette has only 252 Attack EVs because Banette needs to be as slow and frail as possible.
- - An alternative EV spread of 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def with the item Mental herb is possible, but slightly defeats the point of suicide Trick Roomer.

[Other Options]
- Defensively, Banette has access to Will-O-Wisp, Thunder Wave, Knock off, Rain Dance & Sunny Day, but this is generally outclassed by Misdreavous who has superior bulk.
- Can utilise Charge Beam and Calm Mind, but is too slow and frail for this to be effective
- Has access to Shadow Sneak, Sucker Punch and Pursuit
- Can use Trick to cripple the omni-present Eviolite users.
- A Choice Band set with Trick, Shadow Sneak, Sucker Punch and Pursuit is possible but doesn't have the coverage of other bulkier, faster choice banders.

[Checks and Counters]
- Fast Taunt users.
- Hail can break Banettes sash and proceed to KO with most Blizzards, or just strong moves in general.
- In particular, Persian can taunt Banette, be immune to Shadow Claw and quickly defeat the Marionette Pokemon with bite.

Solid stuff, basically the only reason to run banette imo. I'd mention a bulkier spread w/Mental Herb in the AC, but otherwise I'd say this is fine

If this is the only set to run with Banette, then fine, but it's also notable in that its a physically oriented Ghost immune to Counter. I'd like to see some sort of attacker set or annoyer or something, maybe Choice Band with a set of Shadow Sneak, Sucker Punch, Pursuit, filler.

cursed body > insomnia IMO; it's released and far better (on the same note, subdisable in OO?). maybe will-o-wisp or toxic over taunt; afaik most people don't run taunt and those that do have something faster than banette to taunt first.

if you're going to run CB, go with trick/shadow claw/sucker punch/some sort of filler. banette was really screwed by GF, tbh. I mean seriously they give it four types of physical moves and the weakest STAB in the game bar dusknoir's shadow punch, wtf.

screech and cotton guard as OO material?

^ Maybe Trick? Sorta a CBtomb-esque set might be interesting, though not nearly as effective as the original

well, ninja'd thar :P that's supposed to be directed @Tenisace's CB set comment

Ok, Updated, Insomnia was only ever useful once against a Butterfree, but thats a Butterfree, so the ability has been replaced with curse body. CB is OO to me, It lacks high base power moves and has an extremely limited offensive movepool.

I've played against a CB Banette set a couple of times and it was absolutely terrible. I don't really think it has merit in a set on its own, just an OO mention. You can also mention Insomnia in OO, too.

Otherwise honestly looks pretty good to me.

i trust zebra's judgement

Actually, Insomnia would be mentionable if you are faced against a predicted user of a sleep-inducing move. That alone gives Banette a free opportunity to do its stuff.
