Basculegion [QC 0/2]

[SET]
Rain Attacker (Basculegion) @ Life Orb / Choice Band / Mystic Water
Ability: Swift Swim
Level: 50
Tera Type: Grass / Water
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
IVs: 0 SpA
- Wave Crash
- Last Respects
- Aqua Jet
- Flip Turn / Protect

[SET COMMENTS]
- Basculegion is one of the primary Pokémon on Rain teams. Being able to deal massive damage with boosted Water-type attacks, as well as being very fast under Rain due to Swift Swim. Outspeeding Dragapult is especially valuable, as Dragapult can threaten super effective damage on Basculegion with Phantom Force. You can also outspeed Garchomp, a Pokémon that can deal massive damage to Basculegion and its partners with Earthquake.
- Aqua Jet is used for priority, which is useful on Pokémon that are currently at low health, as well as being a spammable priority move in rain. Flip Turn is used for pivoting, and this can have great synergy with other Pokémon such as Amoonguss and Rillaboom. Wave Crash can be used for big damage, and Last Respects is used as a nice late game option.
- Choice Band is used to maximize Basculegion’s damage even further, while Life Orb and Mystic Water are used to get similar boosts to Choice Band, but with access to Protect.
- Tera Grass makes Basculegion neutral against Kingambit and Gholdengo and resists Rillaboom. Tera Water gives it a further damage boost on its Water-type moves.
- This Basculegion set has a lack of defensive investment, meaning that it is likely to get KO’d by super effective priority moves such as Grassy Glide from Rillaboom. Basculegion can also be outspeed often if you do not have Rain up, which can be detrimental to it, as some very strong neutral attacks, such as Outrage from Dragapult or Dragonite, and super effective attacks such as Rillaboom’s Wood Hammer, can OHKO it because of this.

[SET]
Adaptability Basculegion @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Adaptability
Level: 50
Tera Type: Grass / Water
EVs: 176 Atk / 80 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
IV: 0 SpA
- Wave Crash
- Aqua Jet
- Last Respects
- Flip Turn

[SET COMMENTS]
- Adaptability Basculegion is commonly used as a great late game cleaner for teams. It also gives teams an easy choice for a Pokémon to have in the back.
- Last Respects can be incredibly potent in the late game, as it is incredibly consistent with its boosts from fainted Pokemon and Adaptability. Flip Turn is also used for pivoting in important situations, specifically against a Pokémon that threatens it for super effective damage.
- Choice Scarf is used for an important speed boost in the endgame, as without Rain, Basculegion is at a fairly middling Speed tier.
- Tera Grass is used for important resistances against checks to Basculegion, including Grass, Dark, and other Ghost types. While Tera Water has good synergy with Adaptability, as you have the massive damage that you normally wouldn’t have with the absence of rain.
- The defensive investment allows Basculegion to tank a Grassy Glide from Assault Vest Rillaboom. The attack investment allows it to still deal good damage, especially with Tera-Water. With a Choice Scarf, you can outspeed many threats and KO them, including Dragapult, a chance to OHKO Garchomp, a 2HKO on Sash Vivillon, an OHKO on Sneasler, an OHKO onto Hisuian Typhlosion, and an OHKO onto +1 Volcarona due to the speed boost from the Choice Scarf.
- This set is more poised to endgame scenarios, which makes Basculegion a liability if there are opposing Pokemon that threaten to OHKO it. Basculegion is also very scared of Knock Off on this set, as Knock Off can slow down Basculegion and allow for an easy follow up KO. The lack of protect can also be a problem, as this allows Basculegion to be KO’d by super effective priority attacks.

[STRATEGY COMMENTS]
Teambuilding
============
- Basculegion appreciates being on Rain teams, as that is a major source of its multipliers in its Attack and Speed stats. If not running rain, Adaptability Basculegion can be used, as Last Respects and its Water-type attacks can still do a large amount of damage. It specifically fares best in the lategame, especially due to the boosts to Last Respects, it can claw a game back in a tough position.
- Basculegion likes to be paired next to Pokémon that support it and help it sweep teams. Rillaboom and Amoonguss for support are very helpful for this, specifically for the resistance to Grass. Archaludon and Pelipper are solid options to pair next to Basculegion because of the ability to set up Rain. Adaptability Basculegion does well with Pokémon such as Sneasler and Kingambit, which can threaten opposing checks, such as Ghost and Dark types, to help clear the board in the lategame.
- One major flaw of Basculegion is if an opposing Pokémon that checks or threatens it is lead, such as Kingambit, Rillaboom, or Archaludon with Electro Shot. Which in turn the player thinks and chooses not to lead it, other Pokémon that may be just as bad against a certain counter of Basculegion may be lead instead. You may also have to commit Tera on Basculegion if this happens. Switching Basculegion out in the early game can also mitigate this a little bit.

Strategy Comments
============
- Rain Basculegion shines in matchups where it can just click Wave Crash with the speed boost. The amount of damage this can do in certain positions is incredibly threatening in certain positions, especially in the lategame, where Last Respects also becomes a great option if rain is no longer on the field, however, you do lose the speed boost with Swift Swim. Adaptability Basculegion does not fear this, as it can easily click Last Respects. But, it does have to watch out for potential weaknesses if Tera has already been committed, as it won’t always be saved for Basculegion due to it being more useful in the endgame. An easy way to get Basculegion into the endgame is to pivot around and let your other Pokémon slowly go down, while chipping away at your opponents Pokemon.
- If Basculegion is lead with Pelipper on a Rain team, then Water-type moves become solid options for massive damage under Rain. Last Respects also becomes viable in the late game, especially on Adaptability Basculegion and if Rain is no longer on the field. Basculegion, especially with Adaptability, also appreciates pivoting around with other Pokémon in the mid game.
- Water and Ghost isn’t a super great typing, and Basculegion shows that off. Its weakness to Kingambit is troublesome, as it cannot hit it with a super effective attack, and a priority Sucker Punch forces Basculegion to Tera. Archaludon can threaten Kingambit with Body Press though, and Pelipper can hit the Grass types that annoy Basculegion with Hurricane. Sneasler, Rillaboom, or some form of redirection can mitigate Adaptability Basculegion’s weaknesses, as a lot of those options resists or are neutral to super effective hits that check Basculegion.

just wanted to make it clear that there are 2 sets for bascu, one is a swift swim set with choice band, life orb, and mystic water, while the other is an adaptability set with choice scarf.

[SET]
Rain Basculegion Attacker (Basculegion) @ Life Orb / Choice Band / Mystic Water
Ability: Swift Swim
Level: 50
Tera Type: Grass / Water
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant / Jolly Nature (They all go adamant)
IVs: 0 SpA
- Wave Crash
- Last Respects
- Aqua Jet / Flip Turn (bascu pretty much never drops Aqua Jet, I'd remove this)
- Flip Turn / Protect

[SET COMMENTS]
- Basculegion is one of the primary Pokémon on Rain teams in Regulation Set H. Being able to deal massive damage with boosted Water-type attacks, as well as being very fast under Rain due to Swift Swim. (Can you go into further context on what you outspeed? Just briefly)
- Wave Crash is very nice under Rain if you are willing to go for massive damage, as with a Water-type damage boost, it can deal good damage to even resisted Pokemon. And Last Respects is a solid option if Rain isn’t on the field and as a late game cleaner. Aqua Jet and Flip Turn are also solid options to go for at the right time. (the wave crash stuff is obvious, keep if you like. Mention why you use Aqua Jet and/or Flip Turn, Aqua Jet providing priority and Flip Turn getting Basculegion out of sticky situations. Something like that. Also What KOs do you pick up?)
- Choice Band is used to maximize Basculegion’s damage even further, while Life Orb and Mystic Water are used to get similar boosts to Choice Band, but with access to Protect.
- Tera Grass makes it so Basculegion is neutral against Kingambit and Gholdengo and resists Rillaboom, three of the biggest threats to it. While Tera Water gives it a further damage boost on its Water-type moves, while still giving it resists to its checks. (does Tera water let it resist anything? Remove this or maybe not)
-Jolly Nature makes Basculegion even faster than it would be normally with a Swift Swim boost. While an Adamant Nature gives Basculegion room to get more likely KO’s with Wave Crash and Last Respects. (Don't explain 252/252/4 and Jolly was removed)
- This Basculegion set has a lack of defensive investment, meaning that it is likely to get KO’d by super effective priority moves such as Grassy Glide from Rillaboom. Basculegion can also be outspeed often if you do not have Rain up, which can be detrimental to it, as some very strong neutral attacks and super effective attacks can OHKO it because of this. (what attacks?)

[SET COMMENTS]
- Adaptability Basculegion is commonly used as a great late game cleaner for teams, additionally, it gives teams an easy last slot in matchups. (doesn't make much sense, change wording)
- Last Respects is used here as a fast lategame option, as with 2 boosts and an Adaptability boost on top of that, it can deal incredible amounts of damage in the endgame. Wave Crash, Aqua Jet, and Flip Turn are all solid Water-type options for extra Water-type coverage. (probably just talk about how much more potent last respects can be and expand on fast pivoting)
- Choice Scarf is used for an important speed boost in the endgame, as without Rain, Basculegion is at a fairly middling Speed tier.
- Tera Grass is used for important resistances against checks to Basculegion, including Grass, Dark, and other Ghost types. While Tera Water is used for more damage on Basculegion’s Water type attacks, which you don’t have with the absence of rain. (Tera water adaptability should be expanding on)
- 80 Def The defensive investment allows Basculegion to tank a Grassy Glide from Assault Vest Rillaboom with relative ease. While 252 Speed and a Jolly Nature gives Basculegion a chance to outspeed slower Pokemon that are under Tailwind. While 176 Attack with an Adamant Nature The attack investment allows it to still deal good damage, especially with Tera-Water. (any notable KOs? Mention what you outspeed instead of being vague)
- This set is more poised to endgame scenarios, which makes Basculegion a liability if there are opposing Pokemon that threaten to OHKO it. Basculegion is also very scared of Knock Off on this set, as Knock Off can slow down Basculegion and allow for an easy follow up KO. (also mention the lack of protect)

- Basculegion appreciates being on Rain teams, as that is a major source of its multipliers in its Attack and Speed stats. If you are not running rain, Adaptability Basculegion is a great option if you are winning to run this Pokémon (this makes zero sense, change wording). It specifically loves apparent synergies in the lategame, specifically with bulky Pokémon that get KO’d by surprise hits. Basculegion can punish opposing Pokémon that cause this to happen. (this reads confusing, change wording again)
- Basculegion likes to be paired next to Pokémon that support it and help it sweep teams. Rillaboom, Amoonguss, and Maushold for support are very helpful for this, specifically for the resistance to Grass (Maushold doesn't resist grass). While Archaludon and Pelipper are solid options to pair next to Basculegion for more damage, with Electro Shot and Rain-boosted Weather Ball (maybe go a bit more in depth, they are also just there bc they are on rain). Adaptability Basculegion does well with lategame partners, and Tailwind is also appreciated to make sure it outspeed everything in the meta besides Priority. (what partners? I'd say stuff like sneasler, which threatens dark and grass types, also kingambit which threatens ghost types)
- Right away, we have to address one One major flaw of Basculegion is if an opposing Pokémon that checks or threatens it is lead, which in turn the player thinks and chooses not to lead it, other Pokémon that may be just as bad against a certain counter of Basculegion may be lead instead. You may also have to commit Tera on Basculegion if this happens. (mention switching and the actual threat)

But, it does have to watch out for potential weaknesses if Tera has already been committed, as it won’t always be saved for Basculegion due to it being more useful in the endgame. (how do I get into these positions)
- If you choose to lead Basculegion, Wave Crash and a possible Tera is a very solid option in the early game. In fact, Basculegion’s Water type moves generally are incredibly spammable in the early game, especially for Rain Basculegion. In the midgame, Flip Turn becomes nice for pivoting, as if there is a certain Pokémon that checks Basculegion, it can pivot out in a pinch. Last Respects is a common lock for both Rain and Adaptability Basculegion in the lategame, as elaborated many times throughout this analysis. An incredibly strong move with multipliers on top of that, makes for a very scary lategame threat.
(these last two paragraphs just in general don't read very well, suggest changing them)

- Adaptability Basculegion is commonly used as a great late game cleaner for teams. It also gives teams an easy choice for a Pokémon to have in the back.(I don't think this is true or helpful, basc is very matchup dependent and this could give the idea that its more consistent than it actually is)
- Last Respects can be incredibly potent in the late game, as it is incredibly consistent very powerful(given that it needs your mons to be KO'd, I wouldn't say its consistent). with its boosts from fainted Pokemon and Adaptability.
