Hello everyone.
Recently, I've been thinking about running a bastard game (don't worry, it will be announced) and was wondering - what do you all think is "fun" about bastard games that regular mafia simply can't emulate?
By "bastard" I mean a game where the host lies, whether it be due to roles (ex. an investigative role hits a Miller and returns positive) or simply the host lying to players (the investigator hits a non-Miller townie but gets told they're mafia).
Bastardization usually deals with information gathering, whether it be death flips or investigative results. Normal mafia provides at least some forms of guaranteed info (host-confirmed to be true) - deathflips will always be true and investigative roles will always return the right result if they go through / don't get blocked or redirected. It also (occasionally) deals with alignment, with cults being a good example (read here for more information).
I leave you all with two questions: what do you think makes bastard games fun, and what is the best way to go about implementing it? Right now, I'm having a look at a few options:
Information
Millers (death, investigative, or both) / Tailors / Ninjas / Godfathers: All of these roles can mess with investigative roles to a certain extent, but they aren't enough to balance an alignment cop without a significant amount of these roles.
Alignment
Cultists: I'm not too much of a fan of these, but they certainly do change the way a game plays for multiple players and can mess with investigative roles to some extent if implemented in certain ways.
Cheers.
