Battle Memory Ribbon Mechanics ? Violet vs Gold

Hi everyone,

I’ve encountered something interesting regarding the Battle Memory Ribbon and I’d like to question how it actually works.

According to all sources like Serebii, the Gold Battle Memory Ribbon is obtained by transferring a Pokémon that has all Battle Facility ribbons from previous generations (Gen 3 & 4). However, my experience seems to contradict this.

Here are my cases (100% legit playthrough, RNG without glitches):
  • Metagross
    • 1 Battle Tower ribbon (Gen 3, Open Level)
    • 1 Battle Tower ribbon (Gen 4)

  • Salamence
    • 1 Battle Tower ribbon (Gen 3, Open Level)
    • 2 Battle Tower ribbons (Gen 4 – 20 and 48 streak, Single mode)
When transferred to Pokémon X, both Pokémon already had the Battle Memory Ribbon (purple).

Then after transferring to Ultra Moon, the ribbon appears to have upgraded in Gold.

Does anybody have experienced something similar ?

It looks like the gold ribbon is definitely not tied to having all possible Battle Facility ribbons.

Additionally, I have other Pokémon that only participated in Battle Facilities in a single generation (either Gen 3 or Gen 4), and they still receive the purple Battle Memory Ribbon.

So my question is:

Does the Battle Memory Ribbon simply depend on the number of battle facility ribbons between different gens, rather than requiring all of them ?

Maybe Gen 7 change how this value is displayed ?

Would love deeper insight on the exact mechanics.

Thanks !
