Sorry if this is tagged under the incorrect category. Shitty title WIP, but our article submission would like to promote Battle Spot and talk about the benefits of a largely unexplored way of play.

Contributors: Collaborative effort with Age of Kings, Hulavuta, and EnGarde. We aren't high rated players though I've done comparatively well in Battle Spot tournaments but have not touched the ladder extensively.

Objective: To promote Battle Spot play on the cartridge, provide a basic background to the metagame, addressing concerns that might be a barrier to entry.

Topics to be addressed within the article: Why should you try Battle Spot? What are some things that can intimidate new players? What advantages does the cartridge have over the simulator when playing Battle Spot metagames? How playable is Battle Spot despite stuff like Mega Kanga/Swagplay/etc? What is a basic overview of the Battle Spot metagame?

Keep in mind that introducing the Battle Spot metas will be kept simple for the purposes of length. The primary purpose of the article is to promote Battle Spot - we are working on more in-depth resources for other competitive players.

We have drafts available, if anyone would like to see examples of our work.

Audience: All competitive Pokemon players who own a 3DS and Pokemon X or Y, as well as those who enjoy collecting perfect shiny flawless Pokemon but don’t actually battle.

We also feel the promotion of Battle Spot will be valuable to the general Smogon competitive community because Smogon tiers don’t exactly have the most positive opinion overall (see Smogon’s social media presence). I know it’s easy to ignore the haters, but we would like people to consider an alternative metagame without the controversial bans so that either the disagreement will be used productively, or they quit complaining and realize that the tiering council is justifiable.

Why this is needed: This thread gives a pretty good idea of our needs and goals.
The tl;dr version of the thread: Despite Pokemon X & Y being the top selling games on the 3DS and the upcoming OR/AS sure to also be bestsellers, there are comparatively few resources for the official Gamefreak tiers that aren’t related to VGC. We believe this turns away participation. A few regulars of the Battle Spot forum are attempting a grassroots revival to increase the Western competitive community’s participation – and challenge Japanese dominance of the ladder.

Thank you for your time reading. Hopefully this could be the beginning of more Battle Spot submissions for The Smog.

approved definitely, but... i dunno it could also fit into other features. but BS is good for now!

Done. Here's some general advice for all new writers:

1) Get your stuff done on time. If there's ever a situation that comes up, talk with The Smog Staff, and we'll make accommodations. The key here is communication; we need to hear from you if something is up that will prevent you from meeting the deadline. Try to get your stuff done in two weeks if possible, in order to give the GP/HTML/art team time to get everything done.

2) Don't leak any of our stuff until the release happens. This includes art and any other information. If you ever want feedback on your work or have questions, you can join us in #thesmog on IRC (if you don't have IRC, you can PM me or another staffer on the forums and I'll give you a link).

If you need any help, please don't hesitate to ask The Smog Staff. When you post your thread in the Article Workshop, you need to set labels for it. You'll need to set the issue's number too. For the tags that say WIP, Grammar, etc, those are the stages your article are in. Since you'll ideally be working on the article after posting your thread, mark it as WIP. When you finish, move it to Grammar and get it checked twice by other people. Afterward is the HTML stage and someone will put it into HTML code. Your article will eventually get art done for it and it'll be complete!
