Hey everyone!
This is my first time actually posting on the forums, but I'm completely open to (constructed and kindly worded) criticism. Also, please tell me if I formatted this thread wrong or anything like that.
As you can tell by the title, this is an RMT for my in-game XY Battle Spot team. I am doing okay, but not as great as I'd like, and was hoping to get some help because I really want to bring my Rating up. I tend to make a lot of changes to my team very often, but lately, nothing seems to be working. I do Doubles, so I get to pick four Pokémon at the beginning of each battle. I sometimes like to have two Megas on my team to pick from. It's the Battle Spot, so Pokémon are all set to level 50 and the item clause is in effect.
So here goes:
Charizard @ Charizardite Y
Ability: Solar Power
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Heat Wave
- Air Slash
- Solar Beam
- Focus Blast
Charizard is probably my favorite Pokémon on this team. A 95 base power, STAB- and Sun-boosted spread move coming off of 159 base Special Attack? Bye bye, Mawile! (And a lot of other threats!) Air Slash is there for a secondary STAB and provides fairly good coverage. Solar Beam is nice for the Rock- and Water-types that try to ruin my day. Focus Blast is mostly for Tyranitar.
There are two things on this set that aren't on most, and I'll explain them. I like Air Slash. It's a decent STAB, and although it's less powerful than a neutral Solar Beam, it's often the only move I have to hit my opponent for neutral damage, such as other Charizard. Speaking of which, Mega Charizard Y is a popular Pokémon. If I'm facing one, I just don't Mega Evolve, as the boost from Solar Power is greater than the boost from Mega Evolving.
Garchomp @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Rough Skin
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Dragon Claw
- Earthquake
- Iron Head
- Rock Slide
This is the other half of my duo, which I have cleverly named Charchomp. It's a simple but fairly effective strategy: Charizard spams Heat Wave, Garchomp spams Earthquake.
Earthquake is, obviously, the main STAB move. My team is very much centered around Earthquake, actually (which might be a bad thing, but that's why I'm here). Dragon Claw targets a single Pokémon and provides phenomenal coverage. Iron Head is for Fairy-types, Rock Slide is a good secondary spread/coverage move.
Rocky Helmet is an awesome item, as it works very well in conjunction with Rough Skin. It's also a nice little "screw you" to Mega Kangaskhan. However, I sometimes use a Life Orb if the slot is open on my team.
Diggersby @ Earth Plate
Ability: Huge Power
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Return
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Quick Attack
Diggersby is a good reminder that looks aren't everything and ugly, annoying-sounding things can be your friends. Huge Power turns its base 56 Attack into what is effectively base 163. Earthquake coming off of that, boosted by STAB and Earth Plate, is a powerful move. Return is also pretty sweet for when I need that focused, Normal-type STAB. Rock Slide is a good secondary spread move, and Quick Attack provides powerful STAB priority.
Gardevoir @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Telepathy
EVs: 28 HP / 252 SpA / 228 Spe
Modest Nature
- Moonblast
- Psychic
- Thunderbolt
- Dazzling Gleam
Gardevoir is one of my favorite battlers. Telepathy is an amazing ability, protecting my from my friends' Earthquakes and Surfs. 228 Speed EVs allows Gardevoir to outspeed Greninja and OHKO it before my opponent can realize what's going on. This set is fun to run next to Garchomp, as Earthquake hits most Pokémon that resist Fairy Super-Effectively.
Moonblast is the best way to utilize that sexy Fairy STAB. Psychic is another great STAB-move. Thunderbolt is decent coverage, and Dazzling Gleam allows Gardevoir to hit both opponents at once, which is incredibly useful.
I'm considering going back to my older Gardevoir, which was Timid, max speed and special attack, Life Orb, and either Calm Mind or Taunt instead of Moonblast.
I often pick these four Pokémon together, as that gives me two Pokémon with Earthquake and two that won't take damage from it. It's a primitive and moderately effective strategy.
Greninja @ Focus Sash
Ability: Protean
EVs: 4 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Naive Nature
- Scald
- Dark Pulse
- Ice Beam
- Shadow Sneak
This is the shiny Greninja I got randomly while breeding that has become a potent battler. Because of Protean, I get STAB from ALL THE THINGS! Scald, Dark Pulse, and Ice Beam are all powerful STAB moves with good secondary effects, and Shadow Sneak is Provides STAB priority, which works well with Focus Sash.
Shadow Sneak is not a common option on Greninja, but here's why I like it. In addition to being priority, it's unexpected and allows me to play mind games against other priority users. For example, if Greninja is down to 1 HP and facing a Conkeldurr, it can use Shadow Sneak to deal a little damage and become immune to Conkeldurr's oncoming Mach Punch, meaning Greninja can use Ice Beam the next turn and potentially take Conkeldurr or its partner down.
Kangaskhan @ Kangaskhanite
Ability: Scrappy
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Return
- Sucker Punch
- Power-Up Punch
- Fake Out
Yes, I'm that guy. But please let me explain. This slot in my team has been incredibly tough to fill. I've tried dozens of different Pokémon, but I keep having to come back to Kangaskhan out of a lack of a better idea. I've tried Talonflame, Staraptor, Mamoswine, Darmanitan, Bisharp, Togekiss, Mega Lucario, Hitmontop, Meowstic... and that's just what I can remember training recently off the top of my head. So I guess I'm mostly looking for a Pokémon that has good synergy with my team to replace Kangaskhan. Or some way to change the rest of my team to work better with Kangaskhan (I'll never forget the battle a long time ago when my opponent lead with Kangaskhan and Greninja and I lost without ever getting to actually attack).
This is the standard Mega Kangaskhan set, I believe. I don't think it really needs explaining.
Importable:
Pokémon my team has trouble dealing with (like seriously):

- Landorus-T: They all carry Choice Scarf. I could easily blast them to smithereens with Greninja's Ice Beam, but they just use U-Turn before I can do that. And Intimidate hurts so bad.
- Trick Room: Well, mostly Cresselia in general. Ridiculous bulk, Thunder Wave, and Ice Beam.
- Kangaskhan: Okay, what team doesn't have trouble dealing with Kangaskhan? Particularly in doubles, with that double Fake Out.
