Nice CAP mons dood! Although this is an introductory match to get you used to how some of ASB's mechanics work, both mons of yours have a job to do in this battle. To get this battle started, send out and equip one of your Pokemon with a training item you own and I'll send out and order afterwards to
demonstrate how ordering works as well as substitutions (though i explained some of this in PMs so think of this as a review o3o)
LET'S GET THIS PARTY STARTED!

Not bad of a choice, let's see what you do vs Sahara
328.gif
Sahara#EXP. Share

Trapinch Earth Power -> Earthquake -> Earth Power
IF Monohm is Under the effects of Protect THEN Focus Energy First Instance, Chill Second Instance, Push Back each Instance

===========
To order in ASB, you select one move to be used for each of the round's three actions. You may also use substitutions, usually if you're ordering first (but you can also use them ordering second) . A substitution is sorta the only thing preventing you (or any player ordering second) from having a complete advantage over me (or any player ordering first). The substitute I have is one where if your Monohm is to use Protect and successfully works then Trapinch will instead not use the move it had meant to use in its main orders and change to what the sub wants her to do (which is use Focus Energy When Protect is used the first time and Chill (which is a command to recover Energy) the second time Monohm is to use Protect Successfully)

TL;DR
In standard singles: you order with three moves that your Pokemon has and when ordering first (or second at times) you can sub to save yourself from your opponent's abuse

Pretty sure i showered you with a lot of information over PMs ^^; so bit of a run down

Your plan is pretty good (even better since that crit lol), What you've done there was a half version of a Chicken Dance which is where you use a protective move like Protect on the first action, a damaging move/trapping move/utility move (Stealth Rocks, Healing move, etc) on the second action, then Protect on the third action and the purpose of this is usually to prepare for a switch phase for possibly better match up control. The other option like I said was to straight up damage race it since you outspeed Trapinch by a lot, but like you told me you rather save Monohm for Yanma and that's perfect :>

I've actually forgot about this when I was explaining to you on how damage works in ASB, but here's a damage calculator to help you understand more (this is probably what you were asking for and idk why, but it went completely over my head =u=;)

Now it's your turn to order first. Just like ordering second, you issue out three moves that your Pokemon knows and two substitutions to defend yourself, the other option you could do is to start a switch phase switching out to Cupra. Becareful though, unless your opponent Pokemon is trapped through Partial trapping moves such as Fire Spin or Infestation or even full trapping moves such as Mean Look, your opponent has the chance to counter-switch. If they do so, they would sacrifice ordering second and will have to order first with the Pokemon they choose to sent out, it they decline then you will continue ordering first as if nothing great happened. (Note: a user cannot perform a switch phase two rounds in a row).

  • Don't be afraid to switch. Sure your opponent gets the chance to counterswitch but sometimes when your opponent orders first you can catch something and beat them in the damage race.
  • It is not ideal to order a combo when ordering first because it can lead to many many many consequences such as:
  • I could protect against the combo- may be a bit en draining but I would be able to avoid your attack and damage you for free
  • Another thing way I could avoid it is through Dig since Dodge/Evasive moves such as Dig, Fly, Bounce, etc are pretty dangerous in the right situation allowing the user the disappear at prio 0 and deal damage at prio -2 (or prio -1 for bounce). Combos with both move that have 0prio turns into a combo with -2prio and since Trapinch is slower she would be able to avoid through dig.

I wrote a lot wowie and probably not proper english and w/e
TL;DR: Don't combo ordering first unless you want to have a bad time or youre absolutely certain you'll be able to pull it off w/o regrets (which is very rare)

  • Not recommended to use p/e move in main orders unless you're certain your opponent can't benefit from it
  • Probably would worth subbing for if your opponent uses P/E (protect and such)
  • Might want to check out the move Endure, cause that move can be a pain especially if you do not sub for it, allowing me to live the round. You could sub for it by using will o wisp as status like Burn can break through endure
Trapinch Endure -> Focus Energy -> Rock Slide
