[Battling 202 - Singles] Mentor Frosty vs Pupil JjayyFeather

Rules:
4v4 Singles
ASB Arena
Strict 72h Disqualification. One warning per player. If pupil gets DQ'd twice, he can be kicked out by tutor. If tutor is DQ'd twice pupil may ask for replacement.
2 Recoveries / 5 Chills per Pokémon.
Three Substitutions per player excluding KO Substitutions.
Switch = OK
Abilities = ALL
Items = ON
Mega: One
Sendout = Pupil sends out first.

Special Battling 202 Mentorship Rules:

The twist is: any and every move made by pupil must be justified. And if the Tutor doesn't accept the justification or knows of an action-set that accomplishes the same more efficiently, he may demand the pupil to reorder, resend the team, send out a different pokemon or a different item, or to explain further his strategy, until the tutor is satisfied. Yes, this means that "surprise" won't be a good strategy to use here, simply because of how unreliable that is. The tutor won't need to justify whatever, so surprise remains a good option for him.

Terrible repetitive plays from the pupil may cause the tutor to call a DQ, with the approval of the Manager of the course. This program is for mildly experienced players. If you don't much idea of how things work, then the best way to fix it is with practice, not this program. Same way: if you aren't bringing your A-Game, then why bother?

Someone refs, probably me

Oh boy. The first thing I notice in this match is that using Aegislash is going to be excessively difficult, thanks to the presence of everyone except Deoxys, which means I'm going to have to change my plan a little bit.

So, I can't send out Aegislash first, because in my best case scenario that's realistic it's met with Chandelure, which it can just damage race with. But that's not the goal. Fidgit will wall it and get set up. Pyroak will devour it with.

If I lead with Sableye, I have almost no doubts that the opponent of the day would be either Fidgit or Pyroak, both of which are mons that could give Sableye decent trouble, but they are manageable. Oh, and I guess Deoxys @ RCB is a problem if I try leading with Sableye @ Everstone. This could potentially work.

If Kitsunoh is an even worse choice of a lead than Aegislash, since it has no bulk and could just get nuked on. Or hell, we've already seen that Deoxys can wall an unprepared Kitsunoh.

Leading with Gardevoir feels a bit odd. I'd be revealing my mega, and removing the possibility of using Mega Sableye instead later. However, Gardevoir has the best matchups of anyone I could lead with, being able to race with Chandelure after a little bit of shenanigans, matching well against Pyroak's gargantuan HP, being able to shock Deoxys with high damage neutral attacks, and being able to outpace Fidgit.

That being said:

Sending out Daisy the Gardevoir @ Gardevoirite!
gardevoir.gif

Elaboration: I'll probably have to use screens and/or imprison/disable to keep up with Chandelure. Worst case scenario I stall to switch in Sableye

It worries me a bit that you have 3 pokemon that would, in theory, be good vs Deoxys and then opt to bring out the fourth one basically begging for it to come in.

But then again I may be overrating Deoxys.

Deoxys-D with RCB

I know it could be begging for Deoxys to come in, but I need the best possibility of setting myself up in future rounds. Worst comes to worst I can find a way to get one of my other mons in against Deoxys.

[Trace: Pressure]

*yawns*

[ACTIVATE RAGE CANDY BAR] Poison Jab - Frustration - Poison Jab
IF
Hyper Voice AND not in a combo AND Gardevoir is not under a sub with 13.5 or less hp THEN Mirror Coat
IF Fairy-Typed damaging combo THEN Protect
[NON CONSECUTIVE] IF Encore THEN Dodge

It is a plain and simple start. Nothing too fancy. Do your thing.

Eh you didn't overrate Deoxys tbh, it's still hella strong. So my thought goes like this: I can't actually blast this thing to pieces. The next best thing would just be to get into a matchup that I would much rather prefer than this one. Given the current situation, I want Aegislash in this matchup, just to slap it with damage and preserve my Sableye for Chandelure. How to get there safely: Teleport (Switch). Thankfully you made cautionary subs, focusing on my offense and Encore to keep me contained. However, this does allow to think of more reflexive options. So I just want to 'preserve' Gardevoir currently, which means just getting her out of the battle having taken as little damage as is feasible.

To accomplish this, I'm going to use Hypnosis + Nightmare A1, guaranteeing that Deoxys sleeps for at least A2 and A3 of this round, and maybe A1 of next round if I'm lucky. This would result in me 'losing' whatever HP advantage I had due to Gardevoir having more HP than Deoxys, but I can then safely use Teleport (Switch) A3, allowing me to change the matchup.

As far as calculations go: I do lose a bit more EN then I'd like, but I do manage to keep the HP differential down to 4.5 (so essentially 5) by making this play. The only thing I'm not confident in currently is dealing with the fact that RCB Deoxys really should not be a thing.

TL;DR — Throwing out damage is really tempting, but this isn't the matchup I want and/or need, so we just need to work on breaking down RCB and getting in a new opponent.

gardevoir-mega.gif

[Mega Evolve] Hypnosis + Nightmare > Cooldown (Imprison [Frustration, Taunt, Magic Coat]) > Teleport [Switch]
IF you for some strange reason do use Imprison A2, THEN set A3 to Disable (Poison Jab)

20% chance of screwing everything up is a quite considerable chance. Then again 26% chance of getting extra asleep action is a good one, I guess, so.

let's see how is your luck doing

Toon to ref. No poison on poison jab. Normal rolls otherwise.

???
profit! Frosty orders
still Frosty refs

Yeah... sorry about that, I thought about this when I started going through my backlog earlier today. Shouldn't happen again.

Can't use Sableye here, otherwise I don't have many good choices vs Chandelure. So it's either Kitsunoh or Aegislash. Aegislash's only other 'ideal' matchup here would be against Chandelure, and I don't like those odds. So let's get Aegislash in here. Item-wise, Weakness Policy because Dusk Stone will get knocked off immediately. I considered RCB, but since Aegislash has large offenses, RCB doesn't help much there, and I want Aegislash to down this behemoth.

Subs here are simple. I don't want to get combo wrecked, and while I'd rather ignore the need for a Mirror Coat sub there, it will hurt a lot to eat one.

aegislash.gif

Sending out Aegislash @ Weakness Policy!

Shadow Claw > Shadow Ball > Shadow Claw
IF
Damaging Fire OR Dark Combination, THEN Protect and push back.
IF Mirror Coat AND you are to use Shadow Ball, THEN Night Slash.

Yeah... that got lost in the many iterations of these orders.

Alright, Aegislash can't deal with Trick reliably at all. Or at least, that and not get styled on by Resttalk shenanigans. The only mon in my team that can handle item control AND Deoxys' bulk is... Sableye. So that's who I'm going with here.

Imprison lead because Deoxys can't actually hit Sableye hard anyways, subbing for Trick/Skill Swap/PE to avoid any unnecessary shenanigans I can.

Of course that's what gets me... FUCK

Well, nothing else I have works well here besides M-Garde I presume... but I'm going to keep her around a bit longer.

Declined

Fire Blast - Heat Wave - Fire Blast
[NOT CONSECUTIVE] IF
Pain Split THEN Protect
IF Metal Burst THEN Stealth Rock on the first instance, Leech Seed on the second and Will-o-Wisp on the third
IF Sableye is underground THEN Earthquake

This is not looking good.

I have no clue how to deal with this thing honestly, so I'm just going to end up going for a dry-switch to M-Garde, and see what happens. I'd try matchup control, but I don't actually have a winning matchup here... just slightly less losing ones, and M-Garde can deal if you decide to counterswitch.
