Welcome to the BDSP NU Post-Shifts Tournament! The main purpose of this tournament is to give us a good look at the new additions to the NU metagame following the latest tier shifts and to inform opinions for the viability rankings which will be used to determine PU's tier shifts. Most importantly though, this tournament is about having fun.

If you want to look for more games or discuss NU and other BDSP tiers feel free to join the BDSP Metagames Discord server, and if you just want to share your thoughts on the forums there is the BDSP NU thread (keep in mind the links in the OP are extremely outdated).

Tournament Rules:
  • General tournament rules and regulations apply.
  • This will be a best of three, single elimination tournament.
  • Battles must take place on Pokemon Showdown! or the Smogtours server.
  • Please use the following challenge code when playing your games: /challenge gen8bdspou @@@ -ou, -uubl, -uu, -rubl, -ru, -nubl, -drought, -damp rock, -heat rock, -sticky web
  • Replays will be required for your win to count.
Signups will be open until February 9th at 11:59pm GMT-5, or until we get enough signups.

cacturne back in the tier is pretty hype; this mon is (on paper) the best progress maker vs whiscash and so pairs well with anything that forces it in (opponent seems to have figured as much with typhlosion, that was a strong team!)

claydol is my fav addition for its synergies that i'll elaborate later. but sr + teleport or np + spin are the sets with ep ice beam last

aggron is not worth using over regirock/probopass or another wallbreaker

i don't like honchkrow, someone is bound to build a broken team with it and i don't like that it further incentivizes fat builds with regirock lanturn/whiscash etc.

gorebyss deserves more respect than i'm seeing tbh this mon 6-0s the samples and can just steal games in general. so gorebyss ho is a good call imo at least until this changes

ludicolo is effectively an evire counter! i wasn't aware of that, that's huge for it. there's a pretty good case for putting it on your team now over lanturn and another grass.
