Be sharp for Bisharp!

Introduction

Hello Smogon, and welcome to the first of hopefully many RMTs I aim to bring you in the coming months. I've tried to get in the Ubers metagame before, but just ended up picking the same pokemon over and over, and it got stale quick. However recently I've been testing out a whole lot of criminally underused stuff, and it's a lot of fun! This RMT will be centred around the one and only power ranger of doom: Bisharp! Bisharp provides a refreshing alternative to Extreme Killer Arceus, and I was very surprised with the success I had. For those interested in the success I had with the team, I managed a record of 48-12, (the 5 losses you see on the screenshot were when one of my dumbass friends tried to use it.)

My record (excuse the white space, I capped it like an idiot):

So without further ado, let's get on with the RMT.

Teambuilding

Obviously as this was a team around Bisharp, I started with Bisharp.

All sweepers appreciate hazards, so I added the premier hazard layer Deoxys Speed. I had tried Deoxys Defense, but I actually found it was being overwhelmed too easily by the sheer power of the Ubers tier. Deoxys S guaranteed me at least 1 layer of hazards, so I stuck with him.

Next I needed an Extreme Killer check and a Kyogre check. Arceus fighting was my choice for Extreme Killer. I'd had great success in the past with him, and I knew he wouldn't let me down. The choice for Kyogre was between Latias and Latios, and while Latios cannot take the hits nearly as well, he can hit back a lot, lot harder. Perfect for an offensive team like mine. Latios would also help soften the walls that would prevent Bisharp from sweeping, like Groudon.

My team was now faced with a weakness to scarf Dragons. Seeing as this is an offensive team, throwing on Ferrothorn simply wasn't an option, and Arceus Steel was impossible. So I decided to add Dialga. While he is not bulky enough to stomach the most powerful attacks like LO or Specs Dracos/Band Outrages, Dialga serves as a decent deterrent to the stray Dragon Pulses and Spacial Rends that litter the ubers tier. As well as this, Dialga gives me another weak check to Kyogre, which is always appreciated.

The final slot went to Giratina O, for several reasons. The main one was that I needed a spinblocker, and Giratina O was by far the best one I had available to me. Secondly, Giratina's sub shuffling set would give me a nice way to abuse hazards, as well as stopping some set up sweepers in their tracks. I also needed a solid Terrakion check, and a way of revenging Latios and Mewtwo.

And so, the team was complete.

Meet the team!

386-speed.png

Deoxys-Speed @ Focus Sash
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 HP / 4 Atk
Jolly Nature
- Fire Punch
- Spikes
- Stealth Rock
- Taunt

When building an offensive team, the first pokemon that springs to mind is Deoxys Speed. Deoxys is ludicrously fast, sitting in an unrivalled speed tier. Every common scarfer bar Terrakion is outsped. Now combine this with access to Taunt, Stealth Rock and Spikes, and you have the ultimate hazard layer. Taunt is used over Magic Coat because it stops Deoxys being set up fodder, and the only reason Magic Coat can be better is for trolling Darkrai. Fire Punch is used to get a heap of damage on Genesect before it U Turns. While it can never kill, it does enough to the point where with 1 layer of spikes and rocks, it won't be switching back in again.

Latios (M) @ Soul Dew
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd / 252 SAtk / 4 HP
Timid Nature
- Draco Meteor
- Hidden Power [Fire]
- Grass Knot
- Psyshock

Latios is absurdly powerful. People really forget that with Soul Dew, this thing hits harder than Kyurem White. Latios is used to give me a solid check to Kyogre, hitting it extremely hard with Grass Knot or Draco Meteor if needed. Latios also has a great base 110 speed, which means I naturally outspeed every dragon in the tier (bar Arceus Dragon, lol). Draco Meteor needs no explanation. HP Fire is solely for Ferro and Forry, those things are fucking pests. Grass Knot allows me to kill the weather starters without worrying about Draco's attack drops, and also gives me a generally powerful neutral move to hit the tier with (it's hitting for 100-120 BP on most of the tier). Psyshock is there to come out victorious against CM pokes, as well as being a generally powerful STAB move hitting on the weaker defense of most Ubers.

Arceus-Fighting @ Fist Plate
Trait: Multitype
EVs: 202 Def / 252 HP / 56 Spd
Modest Nature
- Calm Mind
- Judgment
- Recover
- Ice Beam

Arceus Fighting is another underrated threat in Ubers. Not only can it 6-0 sand teams by itself, but it's arguably the best offensive Extreme Killer check in the game. The spread is a little weird, so I'll explain. Max HP and 202 Defense allows me to tank a +2 Extreme Speed easily and usually kill Arceus back with a judgment. It also makes Fightceus a decent switch in to most physical attackers in the tier. 56 Speed allows me to outrun base base 95s and below , then hit them hard with the excellent coverage of Ice and Fighting. A modest nature just gives Arceus a much needed power boost, for without it I would probably lose my matchup with +2 Extreme Killer. The moveset is simple yet effective, a CM boosting tank that is perfectly capable of sweeping unprepared teams.

483Dialga.png

Dialga @ Choice Specs
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 244 SAtk / 248 HP / 16 Spd
Modest Nature
IVs: 30 Atk / 30 SAtk / 30 Spd
- Draco Meteor
- Fire Blast
- Dragon Pulse
- Aura Sphere

This is the pokemon that I just cannot decide the set of. Being so versatile has its drawbacks I guess. Currently I'm running Choice Specs, generally as a way of dual wall breaking with Latios, which makes it a lot easier for Bisharp to sweep. But I've found it to be a little redundant with Latios on the team tbh. I've tried defensive, but then I was just Ferrothorn bait (in the rain FB barely 2HKOs). Scarf was decent, but lacked immediate power. I even tried Trick Room, and while that gave me a couple of hilarious results, it generally wasn't very viable. So Dialga is definitely something I'm looking for suggestions.

Giratina-Origin @ Griseous Orb
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 252 Atk / 248 HP / 8 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Substitute
- Shadow Sneak
- Dragon Tail
- Outrage

Giratina-O is just incredible. It has glued so much for me in this team that I don't think it would work without it. Giratina is crazy bulky, even without investment. It can generally shrug off most neutral hits. Couple this with an attack stat around the same as Zekrom's with the griseous orb, and you've got an all around monster. Giratina's substitutes are notoriously difficult to break, forcing the opponent to sacrifice one of their powerful attackers in order to break it. Dragon Tail can also let me get rid of annoying walls, while doing very nice damage to anything unfortunate to get in its way. Shadow Sneak revenges Mewtwo and Latios at around 50%, which is appreciated. And Outrage is just a nuke, easily OHKOing frail mons like Darkrai and Skymin. All this while spinblocking. Wow.

bisharp_by_xous54-d3grmb2.png

Bisharp @ BlackGlasses
Trait: Inner Focus
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Low Kick
- Sucker Punch
- Night Slash

The star of the show! Bisharp is an incredible pokemon in Ubers, being an Extreme Killer for people who aren't bitches. The EVs in speed allow Bisharp to outrun uninvested base 90s, which hugely eases prediction against the likes of Dialga and Giratina. With max attack, Bisharp's sucker punch hits around 3% harder than EK's E-Speed, which may come in handy. Low Kick OHKO's Dialga at +2, as well as Arceus Steel, Excadrill, in fact basically every steel. Night Slash is there to hit Giratina and Lugia reliably, as relying on Sucker Punch against them could end badly. For those of you doubting Bisharp's power, only one pokemon in Ubers even has a chance of avoiding a 2HKO from Bisharp's moveset, and that's Skarmory, who takes 49% MINIMUM from +2 Low Kick. If you choose to run LO over Blackglasses, that one pokemon turns to no pokemon. Bisharp is not to be messed around with. Setting up can be difficult, but once you do, it could be gg.

Conclusion
So that's it. I hope you enjoyed reading my first RMT on Smogon. I may or may not add a threat list, truth be told I haven't actually used this team in a while, I've been testing so many things out recently. However if you do have a suggestion, I promise I will try it out on the team eventually.

In the future, I've got some great teams to show you featuring pokes that you may never have seen in Ubers before, like Sawsbuck, Sandslash, and some neat Arceus formes. But until then, don't be a little punk who plays it safe with Extreme Killer Arceus. Try out a MAN's sweeper: Bisharp.

This is a rather cool team which seems despite being weatherless have weather sweepers covered rather nicely (Dialga, Giratina-O). What puts me off is the lack of a revenge killer, which is really important for a hyper offensive team as this one. Even though this team packs priority, having a scarfer is good because a) Shadow Sneak is rather meager in power, b) Sucker Punch can be predicted around accordingly.

Opposing fast special sweepers like Latios, Mewtwo, Latias (even Darkrai if it hasn't used its Dark Void) becomes problems since Bisharp cannot switch in very easily and Giratina can only revenge kill after a good chunk of damage has been done to the above. I'd suggest you to find a fitting scarfer that can also bring some good momentum to the table. Changing to scarf Dialga is also an option. Another issue is Arceus-Ghost which finds opportunties to set up against your dropped Draco Meteors easily, as well as Arceus-Fighting. Even the frailest Arceus-Ghost lives a Sucker Punch.

The biggest trouble seems to be bulky Arceus formes (Ghost, Water, Grass) with Will o Wisp as nothing on the team breaks through them easily. A good choice to handle both bulky (Calm Minding) ones is through Darkrai, however I am not sure where to fit it.

Thanks for the feedback Hack.

Scarf Dialga is definitely the Dialga I think I'll settle with, you're right about the need for a scarfer on this kind of team.

And yes, CM Ghostceus is the bane of this team. As for Darkrai, I really have thought about putting him on, but I just can't find a way to do it without making the team horribly terrakion weak (and fightceus of course). The best other offensive check I could think of would perhaps be a powerful physical attacker that can break through CM Arceus. Perhaps Zekrom or Kyurem B could work in place of Latios? That would make me a little bit more Kyogre weak though. Maybe I could fit a Perish Song Arceus on here somewhere.

Nonetheless, your thoughts were helpful.
