Haze Milotic CAN beat baton pass - just play smart. See the video below.
Whaddup people. I've decided to retire this team as laddering is proving to be annoying and I am also pretty satisfied with where this team has gotten me.
This is a bulky offence team and it is rather similar to my previous RMT, which few people actually rated =_= but it's ok because I think this team is even more effective. And I guess it's time for me to move on and try another group of pokemon! This team has also gotten me to 1758 and 1728 respectively (I play under two different accounts), which is pretty respectable I would say.
The team started because I wanted to show everyone that Milotic is a viable pokemon in OU. Whilst I haven't exactly succeeded on that, this team has at least done itself proud. Pokemon is a game of synergy, strategy and teamwork between each and every member, and I think they compliment each other very well here.
Teambuilding process:
Ferrothorn @ Rocky Helmet
Ability: Iron Barbs
Impish Nature (252 HP/ 200 Def/ 56 Sp Def)
- Stealth Rock
- Gyro Ball
- Thunder Wave
- Leech Seed
So it seems like the latest trend now is to run physically defensive ferros. I used to think it was a dumb idea but boy was I wrong. Physical ferro helps the team a lot. With the decline of rain teams, it becomes slightly less of an issue stomaching hydro pumps and fairies take the pressure off sponging draco meteors as well. Ferro can now patch up its physical defence and this becomes absolutely useful in taking hits from the likes of secret sword keldeo so that you can set up on it or maim it with T-wave. SR as standard hazards and I can't be bothered with spikes because it's a waste of time. Leech seed helps regain health and gyro ball to hit hard. Simple and effective set.
Milotic @ Leftovers
Ability: Competitive
Bold Nature (252HP/ 252 Def/ 4 Sp. Atk)
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Haze
- Recover
I know, I know. 'Milotic is an outclassed bulky water why the hell are you even using it?!' yada yada. Well as a start, Milotic is one of my favourites and I always strive to place it on my OU team. The generation transitions hasn't been kind to Milotic since it never really got anything new; HOWEVER, neither has it become significantly worse. I have always been the advocate for Competitive Milotic however situational it may be. Milotic becomes a tank instantly when it does get a boost with scald and ice beam providing relatively good coverage.
By far, defog is the best way to get Milotic to boost up. Mandibuzz, Latias, Defensive Zapdos, Skarmory, Latios (to an extent), Scizor are the most common defoggers. Other methods include 'intimidate' users such as Gyarados, Mawile and even Mega Manectric (this happens when it switches in to Milotic and you're prepared to scald, intimidates you and you use scald - bingo). While Milotic isn't as scary as Bisharp and I'm not even running sp atk evs, it does act as a decent pivot and its water typing proves invaluable to the team. With the defensive ev spread, Milotic is able to have continued longevity in the game and hit hard when it gets to.
Haze is the preferred cockblock move because it is very effective. It also rains on every bp-team's parade and I have a video at the bottom. Whilst it didn't exactly showcase the excellent prowess of Milotic, it does show that smart playing helps a HELL LOT. In all, Milotic is still an excellent pokemon. It's just too underrated :( get creative people!
Rotom-H @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
Bold Nature (252HP/ 240 Def/ 16 Sp. Atk)
- Overheat
- Volt Switch
- Thunder Wave
- Will-O-Wisp
Say hi to the adorable Rotom-H. This thing sucks up twave and wow like it's nothing at all thanks to its great typing. With the ev spread I've given it, Rotom-H destroys all versions of Mega Charizard X (just come in straight into it - this rotom lives any dragon claw at +1) with thunder wave and defensive variants are just a joke to it. Fire Blast by Mega Charizard Y under the sun hurts a lot, but it can minimally take a hit and either volt switch to kill it or again, maim it with Twave so that it won't be able to wreak havoc anymore. Rotom-H has saved a lot of games for me and I will always be grateful for its contributions to the team. Its best selling points are definitely the ability to absorb statuses and throw it back to the opponent. Being immune to ground type moves help a lot too ^^ (fuck mold breaker excadrill).
Latios @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Timid Nature (252 Sp. Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 Def AND 29 HP IVs for LO recoil)
- Surf/ HP Fire
- Psyshock
- Draco Meteor
- Defog
This is a pretty standard latios spread and has proved to be effective over and over again. I used HP fire previously as it helped against ferrothorn and destroys scizors. However, heatran was proving to be too big a nuisance as it LOVES switching in on latios. So I decided to use Surf instead and the results have been promising. The only problem is that Latios dies too easily and especially in a sandstorm. Tyranitar remains a huge threat but well, it's tyranitar we're talking about. Probably GF's favourite pokemon given all that boosts it has given to it =.= I decided to go with latios instead of latias due to its better offensive presence. But I suppose latias would fill this spot rather admirably too - or not.
Mamoswine @ Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
Adamant Nature (252 Atk/ 252 Speed/ 4 HP AND 29 HP IV also for LO recoil)
- Superpower
- Icicle Crash
- Ice Shard
- Earthquake
Definitely the MVP of the team and a very standard spread as well. It has excellent STABs that deals huge damage to most things in the tier. It is also the best genie and dragon killer out there with its horrifying ice shard. Superpower helps knock chansey and blissey into KO range although at times I wish they would just DIE. Skarmory can be tricky, but the flinch chance from icicle crash may turn the game to your favour sometimes. Any skarm that runs sp def EVs - just go and die from my mighty icicle crash. In short, mamoswine is just absolutely amazing T_T
Mega Gardevoir aka Mega G - Gardevoir @ Gardevoirite
Ability: Pixilate
Timid Nature (252 Speed/ 232 Sp. Atk/ 24 HP)
- Hyper Voice
- Taunt
- Will-O-Wisp
- Psyshock
Mega G has been great in keeping my team's offensive momentum up and dealing back massive damage. Hyper Voice is devastating against anything that doesn't resist it. The wow surprises opponents at times and helps me keep mawile, bisharp and other physical attackers in check though it may mean gardevoir fainting as well. 100 base speed in its mega form leaves a bit to be desired but I guess it's viable as well. That's why I believe in running max speed so fuck modest nature. Hyper voice cleanly KOs any bisharp that tries to set up on you i.e. substitute, swords dance or whatever. I also use psyshock because I hate mega venusaur and once again, helps against the pink blobs a little as well (although taunting them is awesome too).
Conclusion:
No team out there is perfect. I, for one, am pretty satisfied with where this team has gotten me. This team still has its flaws of course - playing against stall kills me on the inside and opposing de-sharp core still frightens me a lot. But it's really hard trying to cover all grounds so it all boils down to smart-playing - a good team can only get you this far, wits will bring you further. So presenting to you all, a video against the most powerful baton pass player out there. The team is admirable and I actually lost the first time I fought against him. Lady luck wasn't really on my side anyway but ultimately, skill > luck.
Peace out.

Teambuilding process:
- So the process began with Milotic in mind and as a water type, a FWG core would be the most effective since I'm not running any weather.
- I picked Ferrothorn to compliment Milotic because c'mon, Ferrothorn has great synergy with nearly EVERY water type out there (maybe except Relicanth but no one uses that rock anyway) and can set up hazards so yay.
- As for the fire type, I picked a unique or rather-not-so-unique fire type - Rotom H. This thing is so underrated it's not even funny. Its ability to absorb twaves and will-o-wisps is simply unrivalled. And it helps me deal with both types of mega charizards - yes, BOTH types. It is an absolutely amazing pokemon.
- It becomes important to then be able to get rid of things that can threaten this core: the pink blobs, the genies (thundurus especially), and Rotom W to an extent.
- Latios came to mind instantly as it is able to help get rid of hazards with defog, kill off the genies with relative ease and psyshock the pink blobs. Now, I know the power of psyshock is a little underwhelming so I figured I really needed a good physical attacker.
- Presenting the true MVP of the team - MAMOSWINE. Words cannot describe how much love I have for this mammoth. It is truly a titan in terms of power and has helped me slew countless genies and dragons that yes, puts fairies in shame at times. It also helps against the pink blobs to a large extent.
- This last member only joined the team very recently but it proved its worth quickly. I needed a good fairy that wouldn't slow down the team's momentum and help against other threats, namely fighting types. I finally settled on Mega Gardevoir ("Mega G"). Mega G's hyper voice deals massive damage to anything that does not resist it, so much that it isn't even funny. But I'll leave the elaboration for later.
