Beat them with Volbeat's beat

INTRODUCTION

Hello there.A bit of presentation first.I'm XxMforzxX,I used to be a member of PBC
.I have been playing Pokemon competitively since 3 years ago,but I don't ladder much.My biggest score has been only like 1450+.I loved stall in 4th gen.
There, enough about me.Now let's get into this team I just made, yet I think it has high potential : ).This is my try to get into 5th gen because I don't have much time to practice lately.

A couple of days ago Nintendo was bored and decided to give us another Dream World location. It includes a decent bunch of new Pokemon like Magic Guard Abra,Cursed body Banette, and Prankster Sableye, and many more. However, there is a Pokemon between them that has been know as a total NU since third gen, with no real/serious hopes in OU,and that one is Volbeat. And now it has real,no gimmick, like real hopes in this gen at last.

Thanks to prankster..........and Tail glow pass.

If you didn't know,Tail glow got an improvement in this gen;now instead of giving a +2 boost it's an obscene +3 in SpAtk.
Before prankster, using a Timid volbeat with a max speed of 295 and frail defenses wasn't a very attractive idea, despite the sheer force of Tail glow. Now,thanks to prankster,a purely defensively EVd Volbeat will ALWAYS go first(Unless you put it against faster pokes with the same ability),this means that in 2 turns Volbeat can get the tail glow and pass it to something scary.Or maybe, two tail glows.

Oh you want to know more.Shall I begin?

THE TEAM

Politoed (LetItRain) @ Leftovers
Ability : Drizzle
EVs : 252 HP / 176 Def /80 SpDef
Nature : Bold ( +Def / -Atk)
- Scald
- Refresh
- Encore
- Ice Beam

Politoed needs no deep explication.I want rain for Tornadus and Starmie, and Latios' surfs as a bonus. Therefore I decided(for the first time)to use a completely defensive-don't kill me-set.The first weird thing that you will notice is Refresh, and before you go lol woot refresh,it's.....really simple.I want politoed alive.Refresh eases prediction and makes me relax against toxic/thunder wave users.Scald and Ice Beam are enough attacks for this set,and encore is awesome sometimes. So this set is perfect for me to keep the rain "alive".And if it gets a kill, then poli already did more than it's objective.

66mbs0.jpg

Tornadus(Hangover) @ Choice Specs
Ability : Prankster
EVs : 252 SpAtk / 252 Spd / 4 SpDef
Nature : Timid ( +Spd / -Atk)
- Hurricane
-
-
-

Just kidding. The other moves are Focus Blast,Grass knot, and rain dance. The reason I only wrote Hurricane up there is not a total joke though;the other moves are VERY rarely used.Rain Dance is there as a desperate struggle to make it rain if politoed is dead.
This pokemon, like all, needs to be switched in carefully, played like a pro, etc. But once it's on the field.....it's derp time.HURRICANE HURRICANE HURRRRR!!!

Seriously, spamming Hurricane is the best thing you can do.120 Base power + Stab + specs + 30% confusion NEEDS to be spammed.
This guy OHKOs and 2HKOs a lot of stuff, except steels obviously. And there are some steels that will still take a ton of damage, like a no SpDef EVs skarm.353 speed outspeed almost anything that lacks a scarf.

Alone this guy is powerful, but the real bread&butter begins with the following Poke, the one that can turn Tornadus SpAtk into 1396 and let it finish whole teams:

nq4qas.png

"And that day I knew my life was going to change radically. I was a public figure. My name would be between the big OU stars."

Volbeat (Hi there) @ Focus Sash

Ability: Prankster
EVs : 252 HP / 252 SpDef / 4 Def
Nature : Calm ( +SpDef / -Atk)
- Thunder Wave
- Encore
- Tail Glow
- Baton Pass

Oh my.Wait, let me check this again.I'm uploading a RMT with Volbeat. With freakin Volbeat.Nope, not high. This Pokemon is amaaaaaaaazing.Enter Whimsicott for Baton pass, with a 100% accuracy Thunder wave instead of the shaky Stun spore. No,comparing them is kinda wrong, because they serve a very different purpose. The idea with Volbeat is to get into something that doesn't hurt it that much,encore/ignore it if you think it will stay,or thunder wave if you want to para the ninetales that is surely coming to burn you.Or the ttar.Or anything you want to para.Maybe you will want to para a couple of pokes, and then, when your experience tells you it's time:PASS THAT TAIL GLOW !

Focus Sash is the item of choice to make sure nothing kills volbeat if hazards aren't up,but it's not something volbeat NEEDS.Even without Def EVs,Volbeat can survive stuff like a Bullet punch from banded scizor, and in the special department it's very bulky thanks to the SpDef EVs.And that's without counting that we have an Espeon!Oh boy...Inside a reflect and a light screen, getting 2 tail glows isn't hard.

AND YOU KNOW WHAT'S THE BEST THING ABOUT ALL OF THIS?
Ok I will calm down. The best part is that some people have no idea about what will volbeat do.
The opponent may want to roar me in some moment,so...

erdjd5.jpg

Espeon (Hurr) @ Light Clay
Ability : Magic Bounce
EVs : 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Spd
Nature : Timid (+Spd, -Atk)
- Reflect
- Light Screen
- Baton Pass
- Psychic

Espeon is one of my favorite Pokes in this gen.It can do so much with only one set:Bounce Stealth Rock/spikes/Toxic spikes, set up screens, and works as a "Quickly!to espeon!" button in case heatran wants to roar Volbeat.
Light clay gives me a good amount of turns to abuse Reflect and light screen. The EVs allow Espeon to survive a good amount of assults,to lift at least one screen if I decide to let it die, though, why would I?

It's role as a stealth rock bouncer helps Tornadus a lot too.

334q3if.png

Latios(Not Uber) @ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Draco Meteor
- Surf
- Psyshock
- Recover

The second Tail glow abuser.Just picture this:

A +3 Draco Meteor, tearing even through Ferrothorn and dealing massive damage to Blissey, and after that, you still have a +1 boost.
With such power, not even Ttar in sandstorm can live a surf. This is the standard life orb set btw,but I don't mind using it.It will cause chaos and thats what matters. It will solve many problems in a second like he says in the pic.A Pokemon I can trust.

2zdx89x.jpg

Starmie () @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Natural Cure
EVs : 252 SpAtk/ 252 Spd/ 6 SpDef
Nature : Timid ( +Spd / -Atk)
- Surf
- Psyshock
- Thunderbolt
- Ice Beam

A SCARFED TIMID STARMIE?I HAD HOPES IN THIS RMT!
Hehe,oh my.You have no idea how fun is to use this thing,if you pass it Tail Glow. You basically have a Pokemon with 541 Speed, outspeed almost EVERYTHING.And you also got a high, not monstruous, but high,747 Sp Atk. The problem is that you will be locked in one move. But thats where the fun is.Starmie should be used when the opponent has 3 or less Pokemon.Or maybe 4 sometimes.
Your goal is to be a good team stalker.
You need to notice stuff like:
-I can kill everything with surf spam in the rain if Jellicent is gone
-I can kill everything with Psyshock spam if scizor is gone
-Etc.

After taking care of such annoyances, then go ahead.Get your win.
In the worst case that starm gets para, don't worry! It has natural cure and you could probably pass tail glow to it again!Oh the posibilities.

Threat List

472.png

Gliscor:Fabulous set up fodder for Volbeat.Encore swords dance/protect/earthquake/substitute/ice fang, while you get tail glows.

212.png

Scizor:Always a strong opponent.Politoed can take the Bullet punches and try to burn it with scald.Behind reflect,Volbeat can take 2 BPs,enough to pass tail glow to starmie and start to mash stuff.Latios does a good amount of damage with surf too,but it won't OHKO.I think I'm safe against this guy.

598.png
Ferrothorn: Decent or pro players will know that I will switch Espeon to bounce the spikes/thunder wave/leech seed/etc,so they will probably use Power Whip. That's a good moment to instead of going to Espeon,go to Volbeat and encore Power whip.Tornadus can kill it with Tail glow Specs Hurricane.
Also spikes aren't much of a problem since latios/tornadus float.

530.png
Excadrill: Volbeat.Encore Swords dance or quake.Pass tail glow to starmie.

149.png
Dragonite:These things are rude. The problem is that it can do a lot of stuff:hit very hard, physically or specially,or dragon tail. The best I can do is damage it a little and then finish it with Starmie's Ice beam.

242.png
Blissey:Funny set up fodder. After any of my three sweepers carry tail glow, not even her can stop them.

485.png
Heatran:A joke if it's raining.A big problem if it's sunny.Hopefully you will make it eat a thunder wave if it tries to pwn Volbeat.Resists Espeon, tornadus(The only reason why Tornadus would use Focus Blast besides ttar),but it dies to a good surf boosted by the rain/glow.

Conclusion

I will finish more details of this RMT later(It's late and I'm very sleepy as I write this).

I hope you enjoyed reading this RMT.This team is far from being an experienced team,so all the ideas and suggestions are welcome.
In fact, this RMT is more like the ones that ask for help.

Finally,I made this RMT hoping you guys can be creative using Volbeat.Volcarona?Venusaur?Alakazam?Who knows what other pokes could make use of a handy Tail glow.
It's up to you to discover them!

Hi,

You need something to check Blissey, because you have neither a physical attacker nor Toxic to wear it down. Every team needs a physical attacking option. So add a Fighting Pokemon, or use Hammmer Arm on your Tornadus with a mixed set.

Good Luck!

@HoiPolloi, Blissey is just set up fodder for Volbeat, and Blissey has a hard time taking a +3 Psyshock.

Now. there is just one change I would give you :)

Change the Politoed set to a RestoChesto set. It has even more survivability than the set you are currentky running and essentially gives you a "2nd life":
Politoed @ Chesto Berry
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SAtk
Relaxed Nature (+Def, -Spd)
- Scald
- Toxic
- Perish Song/Encore
- Rest

Ice beam has no real purpose on your current set as a defensive Politoed doesn't really need the coverage. Perish Song and Encore do the same job of stopping things setting up, as well as allowing you a free switch in to Volbeat, but Perish song is not bounced back by magic bounce, so it makes Baton Pass teams easier to deal with.
Good luck!

Nice team but I think scarfed Terrakion can go through your team easily, to stop that I suggest Toxic on politoed or Technician breloom somewhere in the team.

@Browners your set sounds good,I will try it,thank you man!

@RhyssaFireheart Terrakion can be countered. If I think it will close combat I can go starmie, and after he takes over 50% of Starmie's life he will want to Close Combat again, only to be surprised by a Nasty scarfed surf.Trapped in CC he is also set up fodder for Volbeat.Volbeat can para it on the switch.Politoed can sort of beat it thanks to the max hp and high def, especially now that I will try Browners' set.
Stone Edge is more of a problem but if it misses against anything on my team, terrakion or my opponents team will be ruined.

Currently adding threats.

Volbeat is the ultimate troll. i was using it for ages in the DW OU tier, and it is amazing. i normally run sub over t-wave, especially if you want to sweep straight away. For example, you sub turn 1 your opponent SR's or something. Encore, then get a free tail glow as he switches or set up 2 if he stays in, the baton pass out the sub as well. It also allows you to take a Sucker Punch from Toxicroak or honchkrow. This will be rather good as half you team takes SE damage from SP and could stop your sweep easily. And having NO physical attackers is weird. JS.
