This is my first X-Y doubles team. I'm still not sure how strong it is, but it's been doing well so far on showdown.
Shiftry Focus sash
Ability: Pickpocket
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Beat Up
- Tail Wind
- Fake Out
- Icy Wind
Shiftry Leads well with Tail wind and beat up+Justified, and later can support with icy wind. Fake out is nice if I don't lead with it to help set up the beat up, and Icy wind can help me pick up the second tailwind if this thing should live that long. Since Shiftry is always paired with a greater threat, focus sash is usually enough to guarantee both the tailwind and the beat up. The original Beat up user was Weavile, but terrakion kept getting outsped or OHKO'd, so I brought in some tail wind.
Terrakion @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Justified
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Close Combat
- Rock Slide
- Protect
Typical lead alongside shiftry, the lack of speed investment is fine under tailwind, and allows it to be (barely) outsped by shiftry for the beat up+spread. Protect on turn one allows shiftry to set up, and then they will usually both go first on turn two. Earthquake has the advantage of KOing weakened shiftry which, in the tail wind, lets another threat switch in after the Icy wind. Sitrus berry keeps Terrakion going against some priority users like talonflame.
Machamp @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Wide Guard
- Dynamic Punch
- Ice Punch
- Earthquake
Machamp's wide guard makes it a great team mate for flying types against Rock slide. It's good coverage and the confusion from Dynamic punch make it more threatening than most support pokemon. In tailwind it can outspeed, where Dynamic Punch can sweep. Ice punch helps deal with pesky dragons.
Gyarados @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Watefall
- Potect
- Ice Fang
Another Sweeping threat, Gyarados can set up while Terrakion burns through his wind, then keep the momentum going. Also, with intimidate, G-Dos makes a great switch in to turn the tides.
Talonflame @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Gale Wings
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- Will-O-Wisp
- Protect
Talonflame can help with Skamory and Forretress that wall Terrakion and can turn around with powerful steel type moves. Priority Brave bird can take out opponents that have been red-lined by spread moves, as well as that gosh darned breloom. Will-o-Wisp is a great support for Kangaskhan or gyarados allowing them to ignore the crippled opponent.
And of course, no team would be complete without
Kangaskhan @ Kangaskhanite
Ability: Scrappy into Parental Bond
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Protect
- Return
- Crunch
- Power-Up Punch
The gold standard of the tier, Mega Kangaskhan loves the tail wind, but can clean up after a Beat Wind opening with it's high speed investment. Everything about it is fairly standard. I chose protect over fake-out to help stall trick room and because the added damage was so little it didn't seem helpful.
The EV spreads are really binary right now. I'd love some help with more nuanced spreads, as well as any other suggestions.
