Beginner UU Team

After playing the OU metagame for over a year, and seeing it become dominated by the same handful of Pokemon, I decided to get into the UU metagame, which I've actually been enjoying a lot more. This is the first UU I've made, and it's been doing all right...sometimes. Some battles I'll sweep a team no problem, others I'll get 6-0'd by one Pokemon. So I figured I'd post my team here and see what you all thought.

Absol (M) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Super Luck
EVs: 252 Atk/216 Spd/40 SAtk
Hasty nature (+Spd, -Def)
- Sucker Punch
- Superpower
- Pursuit
- Fire Blast

My lead. I went with this variation of the mixed Life Orb set over the anti-lead set because this seems to work a lot better. Sucker Punch is great for getting around those scarf leads, and Pursuit works great for chasing down Pokemon that try and bail when they see Absol. Superpower, with Focus Sash, works as an effective way to get rid of leading fighting-types that would otherwise rip through my team. Fire Blast goes in the last slot to take care of the Scyther, Beedrill, Butterfree, and Jumpluff leads I see so often. He is usually able to take out at least two Pokemon every match. Plus he just looks badass.

Registeel @ Leftovers
Ability: Clear Body
EVs: 252 HP/100 Atk/158 Def
Impish nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Iron Head
- Stealth Rock
- Earthquake
- Toxic
My Stealth Rocker and main tank. He's able to come in on pretty much anything, and will force a switch most at the time, at which point I can either set up Stealth Rock or Toxic the switch. Iron Head is pretty good STAB, and Earthquake is a reliable secondary attack.

Swellow @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spd/4 Def
Jolly nature
-Protect
-Facade
-Brave Bird
-U-turn

Well, this has definitely been doing better than Porygon2, but it seems to have a very short lifespan once it's sent out. Any ideas?

Venusaur (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Overgrow
EVs: 252 HP/4 Def/252 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Sludge Bomb
- Leech Seed
- Roar
- Sleep Talk

Venusaur's my main way of dealing with status and Leech Seeders. I originally had a Choice Band Drapion here, until I went up against a Subseeding Shaymin, and had absolutely no way to deal with it. So I started looking through grass types and came across this Venusaur set, and it's been working all right for me so far. Being a grass type keeps it from getting seeded, and its poison typing keeps it from getting Toxic'd. And having decent defenses lets it stay alive longer. Sludge Bomb and Leaf Storm are for STAB, and do massive damage to whatever doesn't resist them. Hidden Power [Fire] takes care of the steel types that think they can get a free switch in and wall me. And of course Sleep Talk lets him take sleep like a champ.

Mismagius (M) @ Choice Specs
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spd/252 SAtk/6 SDef
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Shadow Ball
- Thunderbolt
- Trick
- Hidden Power [Fighting]
My team has a few prolems with fighting types, so Venusaur and Mismagius are there to keep me from getting completely destroyed by them...freaking Hitmons. Shadow Ball and Hidden Power [Fighting] hits just about everything in the UU metagame, and Thunderbolt is there to fill in the gaps. Trick has helped quite a bit, especially against stallers like the Regis, and whatever else thinks it can set up against me.

Poliwrath (M) @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 28 HP/252 Atk/228 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Waterfall
- Ice Punch
This is by far my favorite Pokemon on this team. If it so much as gets up one Substitute, it can take out at least two Pokes, if not completely sweep the opponent's team. It's exactly the kind of offensive powerhouse I love using, and has great coverage.

So yeah. Comments? Suggestions? Or do I just suck?

Specs Venusaur is outclassed by Roserade. 252 SpAtk/ 252 Speed Timid would work well here.

What pokes give you trouble? I can give you a better rate if you can point out your weaknesses.

Well, Slowbro is the best counter for Hitmontop. If not him, then Claydol. But the problem is where to place them. All your pokes seem to earn their place, going by your comments.

Hitmontop gives me the most trouble, as well as anything that has an opportunity to set up.

Do you mean Technitop?

If you do, you have a near perfect counter for it: Venusaur. If you have trouble with top and Stat uppers, use a Utility Venusaur without Specs, with a moveset such as;

Sludge Bomb
Leech Seed
Roar
(filler)

Registeel: I would change Toxic to Thunder Wave to help your (initially) pretty slow team. Thunder Wave will help slow down some of the sweepers that will give your team problems (fire and fighting types). With the change to Thunder Wave I would replace Earthquake with Explosion. Explosion will help get rid of defensively tough pokes at the right moment, allowing your other pokes to take advantage of the hole left in the opponent's defense.

The thing that stands out is the lack of speed. The highest you reach is Mismagius at 339. Thunder Wave helps a lot here, but I think you would need a good revenge killer. Another thing that stands out is the lack of real firepower to get through stall teams. With two tanks with similar roles, a lead that would die early on, two choice users, and an attacker stopped by bulky grass and water types, the residual damage a stall team employs seems like it would get you pretty quickly.

With that said, I would replace Porygon2 (as much as everyone loves it) with a speedy attacker. Try out this Swellow:

Swellow @ Flame Orb
Ability: Guts
EVs: 252 Atk/252 Spd/4 Def
Jolly nature
-Protect
-Facade
-Brave Bird
-U-turn

With this Swellow, who reaches 383 speed and 269 Attack can fire off monstrous Facades and Brave Birds after the Guts boost. Also an excellent status absorber. A good strategy to employ is by Tricking the Specs from Mismagius onto steels that switch in, neutering them so that they won't be able to efficiently wall Swellow and Venusaur. Also. experiment with Quick Attack/Roost/whatever over Protect, because Swellow can force switches to grab its burn, and Protect is only useful on lead Swellow.

Is there so much need for 233 speed on Poliwrath? It would be fine just outspeeding most walls and 4 speed Venusaur (197). Try a spread of 252 attack/88 speed/168 HP for a bulkier Poliwrath who reaches 198 speed.

Good luck! I like the use of Absol, who has caught me by surprise.

EDIT: and for the stat up sweepers problem, try to paralyze or Trick Specs onto them.

Changing Venusaur and putting in Swellow definitely helps with a lot of problems, but I'm still running into problems with Moltres and Lanturn.

Edit in some comments about your Swellow or I'll lock this topic. Thanks, have a good one.

I think Absol's item should be Lum Berry. When you do se a Jumpluff or Roserade lead, they will usually use Sleep Powder turn one and will also probably have a Focus Sash.
